Yurei learns Mist Servant technique

The sun had just risen, bringing a cool, yet warming air to the otherwise frigid night. That would soon change, resulting in the signature heat of Hoshigakure. Yurei took a deep breath as he rose from his bed, the suns warm rays opening his eyes. The boy rubbed them, messaging away the thin blurriness that lined them every morning. He yawned, breathing in deeply, and then exhaled, swinging his thin legs over the side of his little cot. Today was to be the day he practiced and more genjutsu, specifically some minor D-ranks. Nothing too special, but he wanted to increase his knowledge of how the illusionary arts worked, and regular people posed no opposition or threat against genjutsu as they lacked the chakra and ability to dissuade it.
Yurei jumped out of bed and landed on the cold floor. He quickly bent and touched his toes, igniting the fire in the back of his legs, and he dashed forward, withdrawing a genjutsu scroll from his nightstand. This was the mist servant technique. Nothing complicated, but it was essentially a genjutsu version of the clone technique, only the ‘phantoms,’ as they were called, did not disappear with contact from enemies. Instead, they duplicated. The potential in this jutsu relied on not having them attack, as they were unable to do damage. This was, of course, as all genjutsu were meant to do, intimidate, distract, and weaken, all to varying degrees of effectiveness. There were of course exceptions to this, but, fundamentally and pragmatically, this is what genjutsu were for.
Yurei yawned deeply and tucked the scroll into his back pocket. He’d figure he’d go out looking for trouble and attempt to use the jutsu. Now, that wasn’t the smartest thing, but it did allow for Yurei to actually use genjutsu, as opposed to using it on some random bird or desert fox that had done nothing wrong. Now a conflict? That was what Yurei had intended. And Hoshi was full of them.
The Uchiha quickly gathered his things, wrapping his kimono around him, putting his lanky arms through the sleeves of silk and tying it at the waste. The boy took a deep breath, tied on his headband, and rushed outside, descending through the hallway.
“I’m heading out!” Yurei called out to his mother. “Don’t worry about me. I won’t be gone long!”
The boy rushed outside, withdrawing the scroll from his belt. The jutsu handseals were as follows: Boar, then rat. Nothing too complicated. The scare tactic jutsu seemed simple enough, nothing nearly as complex as Ephemeral, where Yurei essentially possessed control over everything except time. What genjutsu could preside over time, though? Yurei pondered on that as he walked forward.
The housing district, for the most part, was very quiet. Save for a few house burnings.
Yurei walked on, basking in the heat of the day as he walked. It wasn’t exactly comfortable, and it had gotten hot quickly. Yurei wiped the dripping sweat just above his eyebrow and exhaled. His eyes scanned the roads. Nothing. Maybe there’s more going down at the marketplace. Even the slightest scuffle could justify it without any moral question.
The pale Uchiha dashed down the sidewalk, passing up the numerous houses of tanned stone that lay parallel to the road. The marketplace was coming into sight, and the houses were fading. With his Sharingan, Yurei could spot a few chakra masses. Not too many, but he kept an eye out for those few people. Scuffles were more common here, especially under the disguise of a crowd.
Then Yurei came upon something that was not violence inspired by hatred, but, rather, one of desperation. A man darted across the marketplace, taking, in hand, a handbag. Yurei’s eyes cut to the fleeing man, but the shinobi was faster. He quickly signed the handseals for the jutsu and unleashed a torrent of his chakra at the man, spawning his phantom clones. He had seized control. The Uchiha took a deep breath, directing his clones to go to the man. Although slow, they succeeded in upsetting the man until he retaliated, slicing one in half with a slash of a kunai. The phantoms split, now more plentiful in numer. Again, he would cut at them, spawning two more in its stead. The man screamed, backing up. Yurei had mentally instructed his clones to not attack, but merely surround and startle the man. This was prompted from their inability to actually do harm to a person.
The man, backed into a corner, dropped the handbag and raised his arms. Yurei walked forward, retrieving the handbag, to which he handed an approaching old woman. “Here you go, Ma’- OW!”
The woman struck Yurei across the face, causing the illusion to dissipate. “How dare you take my handbag you cretin!” she yelled.
“Lady, I just got it back from you!” he yelled back as the woman tried to strike him once more. Yurei jumped back, rubbing his throbbing head. Is her arm made from steel? The boy turned to the man’s cornered spot only to find him missing. He must have got away, and all thanks to this ungrate- “OUCH!”
“Get back here!” the woman yelled as Yurei dashed away.
“You’re welcome, Ma’am!” he said, rushing off. The jutsu had been a success, even if it was warded off by some old lady. Still, it had its use, and the complexity of the jutsu, despite the rank, added greatly to Yurei’s understanding of the illusionary arts. Yurei smiled, rushing back through his home. He walked past the numerous sand-colored houses as he went over the jutsu in his head. The phantom clones hadn’t been difficult to control, yet they were a surprisingly well executed intimidation tactic. Definitely not for the smart or the shinobi-trained, however. This would simply serve as a less taxing way of dealing with chakraless villagers causing trouble in the village, and it certainly wouldn’t serve his main goal in any way other than learning all he could about genjutsu.
