A real ninja, the genin exam Empty A real ninja, the genin exam

Wed Jul 26, 2017 1:12 am
Why does something tickle, and something hurt? Yuuki thought as he entered the classroom he was all too familiar with, and sat on one of many chairs. He wasn't honestly as excited about the genin exam as he perhaps should have been, the only thing he could think of that was even remotely exciting about the whole thing was what came afterwards, which was him being allowed to learn more important, and more useful jutsu. He had scratched his forearm previously, making him wonder why did scratching like that hurt him, while something else, such as gently passing over the skin with a fingertip would offer a different sensation. He looked at where the proctor was apparently supposed to arrive, anytime now. Or was he early? Looking around the classroom, not everyone was there yet, so he was a little bit early. Eh, at least he could experiment with the whole sensation vs pain thing, he thought as he scratched his hand once more, then passed over it gently with his finger. He could determine that his nails were the reason it hurt, but still, why? The boy moved his hand through his impossible-to-maintain hair as he thought about it and readied himself for the exam. What was there to be ready for? He had already practised the only two jutsus that they would ask him about, and the theory behind them as well. All in all, he wasn't worried, not one bit, he just wanted to get it over with. Not worried at all. Nope.

A real ninja, the genin exam Empty Re: A real ninja, the genin exam

Damon Uchiha walked into the testing room. Allegedly, there was a new class of graduates prime and ready for promotion, and as a newly appointed chuunin, he had been called to do so. Swallowing any nerves he had, he remembered that if he ever did succeed in his dream of becoming a legend, these kids would get to brag that they were promoted by THE Damon Uchiha. That was truly what he wanted to leave behind: a legacy. He opened the door to the room, where he noticed a single boy all by himself. He cocked his head, as he did not anticipate the early arrival. At least this boy shows some promise. He would head towards the podium as more and more students filled the classroom. Once the seats looked to be about what they should have been, he cleared his throat. “Good morning. My name is Damon, and I will be your proctor today. The genin exam is rather simplistic: simply come up to the front of the classroom when your name is called, and perform two jutsu,” he was cut off by the sound of one of the brown nosers finishing his question. -the clone technique and the transformation technique!” Damon looked over and realized that with his new rank came a newfound call for respect and restraint. But eh. “Dead. A shinobi must know when to speak and when not to speak.” He looked towards the kid with a sense of sympathy. Maybe he should not be such a hardass on his first testing cycle. “Let that be a lesson to you guys.” His voice was slightly more lax now. “Alright, will Insert Name Here please come up and perform the two techniques.” The class would watch as some boy came up and flawlessly performed the E ranked techniques in front of his peers. “Great job!” Damon was relieved he did not have to fail the first performer, so much so that he gave him a high five. “You can exit and receive your genin headband in the office down the hall.” He looked down towards his notepad at numero dos. “Yuuki Hyuuga.” Damon let his eyes wander the room until he spotted the boy who would stand up. “Come on down and show us what you’ve got.” He gave a reassuring smile as the boy would take the test.

A real ninja, the genin exam Empty Re: A real ninja, the genin exam

Wed Jul 26, 2017 2:11 am
Hyuuga, the name echoed in the boy’s mind as he wandered off from his seat towards the front of the classroom. He had forgotten they knew he was, essentially, a Hyuuga. He tried to forget he was one himself. In reality, was he a Hyuuga? Just because one of his parents was? Just because he had those eyes? The fact that this ‘Damon’ called him a Hyuuga pretty much destroyed all of his confidence, and thus the boy walked slowly, without the eagerness he had perhaps had while walking towards the Academy earlier in the morning. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, he was excited to be a genin, or rather, to be a real ninja, finally. He really, really didn’t want to admit it though.

As he got to the front of the classroom, a thought erupted in his mind. What if he failed? What if, for all the training he had done, he didn’t train enough and failed? Yuuki, if he was to be asked at any point in time other than this one, would’ve easily known what would happen. He would be held back a year and given the exam once he was actually ready for it, but at this point in time, what he thought of was the worst possible scenario. What if he was forbidden from ever becoming a ninja if he failed these two simple techniques? What if he was expelled from the Academy, and left to live in the streets for the rest of his life just because he missed a handseal, or didn’t distribute his chakra properly? The thoughts were impossible to contain and thus they rampaged through his mind as he stood in front of the class he knew so well, hesitating for a couple of seconds while he thought about running away crying, before he finally gathered his courage.

”Yes sir.” He said before shaking his head once to get rid of the fear. So what if he would be expelled just for failing? He wasn’t going to fail, therefore there was no reason to think about what would happen. What if’s were the death of logic, he deduced, and therefore he decided there would be no what if’s in his life. He closed his eyes briefly before opening them, almost activating the Byakugan before he remembered that wasn’t what was asked of him. He formed the first seal, ram, which he had realised was used for techniques that were supposed to last longer than an instant, like the ram’s longevity. He did it quietly, without hesitation now, ready to become a genin. Next up was snake, and he formed the handseal just as beautifully as the previous one, this time thinking about deception. Snakes were deceptive, and this technique was meant to be deceptive as well, so yeah, that was that. The final handseal was what stumped him, always. What in the world did a tiger have to do with cloning? Still, he formed it just the same, although with a frown, and from a small puff of smoke, two clones emerged. The Hyuuga boy turned around towards his examiner to see what the older man thought of his technique. The clones followed his movement, both of them turning around almost instantly after Yuuki.

He hadn’t even noticed, Damon didn’t seem that old. In fact, he seemed more like a teenager than like an adult. Was he really a chuunin? Sure he was, Yuuki thought, why couldn’t he be? The boy was ten years old and a genin, well, was going to be one soon, surely he could pass the chuunin exam before young adulthood as well. Ninja weren’t always older ones, the young Hyuuga noted. After getting the man’s approval of his clone technique, he would think about them both being destroyed, and they would do so, disappearing into nothingness as quickly as they came. Next up was the transformation technique. The one he liked more out of the two. Also the one he found easier. If he didn’t fail the clone technique, he surely wouldn’t fail this one. He formed the dog handseal as he thought about adaptability, which was obviously what the dog stood for in the technique, and quickly moved on to the next handseal, boar. He didn’t, however, have anything to think about while forming the boar seal considering the boar made no sense. Was there one random handseal in every technique, he wondered as he formed the final handseal, ram, which was, as he had determined previously, used for techniques that were supposed to last, even a little bit.

A puff of smoke, and now there were two Damons standing one beside another, except one of them seemed to have a grin of successfulness on his face. It was his first time seeing this man, Damon, so Yuuki was incredibly proud of himself for being able to transform into him so easily. The handseals he formed could’ve been done quicker, if he hadn’t thought about the meaning behind each of them, but alas, he was curious, and thus he was slower than what was possible, but fast enough for the technique to work. ”How..” He started speaking, only to realise his voice wasn’t his own. The boy transformed back to his original form quickly, without the use of any handseals, accompanied only by a small puff of smoke like before. ”How was that?” He asked, this time with a lighter voice, nowhere near as deep as before. He wanted a deeper voice though, it sounded cooler.

A real ninja, the genin exam Empty Re: A real ninja, the genin exam

The 17 year old Damon gave a reassuring nod to the boy when Yuuki, and subsequently his clones, had turned around to be acknowledged. Such a feeling was constantly desired by himself, so he was well aware of how it felt to be recognized for your hard work. This is a give in, the proctor thought to himself after handseals were performed that he perceived to be slower than he was used to, which made sense. It only meant that this boy did not want to fail, and thought before he acted. Two of the best signs of a shinobi. The Uchiha was then faced with a mirror image of himself, which surprised him. Man, I look good, he thought to himself in jest as the boy transformed in front of his eyes to his normal self. “You…” his voice deepened and hesitated, building up the suspense. “Pass!” he said much more cheerfully. “You’ll find an office down the hall with a shinobi headband. It only gets harder from here, buddy, but I think that you’ll be able to handle it.” Damon would smile as he clasped the boy on the back reassuringly, if he would let him. Now that I’m a chuunin, I could put a team together… Damon thought to himself. I might have just found my first candidate. Yuuki would then presumably leave the room, before continuing with the exams. “Alright, next comes Hugh Janus,” he then said muffled, “...wow your parents didn’t like you much, huh?”

(Congrats! Just let a mod pop by and officially approve this, then you're good to go. Feel free to claim your genin rankup, 15 stats, and the other free genin jutsu if you don't have them already, i.e. surface walking/substitution. I like your writing style, by the way.)

The clap on the boy's back would place a mark seal on him, Damon's first. The fuinjutsu technique would appear for a moment before disappearing completely, and without a trace. This had no nefarious purpose, but would only be used in the event that the chuunin needed to find the boy later on, for recruitment or just to monitor his progress.
