Tenma would shrug and shake his head, this conversation was not going well, and he would answer with a quick "no" and he would be close by, searching books for the very book he was looking for, more studies on water jutsu, he needed to get better at that anyways.

"FINE!" Nan said loudly. Not quite shouting, but it would certainly turn a few heads as his arms reached into the air. With a slightly softer, but still too loud for a library, voice, he said "Do you want me to, like, say I'm a missing ninja or something? That I left my village and kill innocents and am here to rob the first pregnant lady I see?"

Nan calmed down in a moment, breathed deep, and then continued. "Ok look, that's not entirely inaccurate. Name's Nan, I think I said that earlier, but whatever. Nan Higashi. Born in some bodunk town you've never heard of. Lost my parents to illness, raised by my aunt, blah blah blah. Left when I was able to because I wanted to. But I've never been to a ninja academy, or anything. Like sure, I self taught myself the super basic basics of fighting, because it's a tough world out there, ya'know? But I've not done any real, like, organized anything. What I have done is gotten really good at gambling. 'No way', you're probably thinking, 'He is too expressive', or something like that. I'm really good at hiding my emotions when I try, ok? Though normally I just pretend to be really bad at hiding my emotions until I can win it big and then mislead everyone. Yeah, I'm a bit of a cheat I guess? But it's not like I stack cards.

"Anyways, I got off topics. Basically, I'm a good gambler. So I've got a fat chunk of cash and a lot of people that want it. So I got Masaki there to run interference for them. So far just him being there has dissuaded people. Works for me. I just want to enjoy the cash I have and then live a quieter life somewhere, ya'know?"

Nan pulled out a chair and fell into it, leaning back far enough that his head hung downwards.

"So like, any other things you want to ask me? My life story? Maybe pester Masaki into talking?... Actually that'd be interesting. He's always so quiet, I know, like, nothing about the guy except his name. Not that I think he'd answer you. He's just like that, I guess."

Nan sat up to look back at Tenma. "Or perhaps you could tell me some place to get food? My treat, if you want to join me. You too, Masaki," he said, looking towards the tall and quiet type behind him. "You want in, just ask. Or keep reading... whatever that is."

"Look I just want to know why you are in Hoshigakure, what you are doing here, and what you are expecting to get from this village, that is really about it" Tenma responded to Nan, then when Nan asked about a place to eat , he would finally decide to recommend "There is a Place , Sybling Diner, They have some pretty decent Ramen if that is your thing" Tenma however had not looked up from his search, but rather at this point just carried the conversation to be a little more civil then he was earlier.

"I'm here to learn about the place and spend money. That's it. I've spent awhile traveling the world, and this was just one of my stops.

"Ok, I also wanna sight see. I get that I probably can't get into the castle, but it'd be cool to at least go look at it, ya'know?

"So yeah, ramen sounds good." Nan stood up, kind of jumping off the chair. "Wanna follow us, Mr. Dark and Mysterious? If so, lezgo! If not, I guess don't say anything. Or grunt. Or something."

Rather the Silent guard dog followed or not, Tenma would go ahead and go, he had not been there since that one night with a girl he barely knew, but it was not a bad time in the slightest, he wondered if maybe she would possibly like another outing like that or not, oh well, he would decide he would lead the way to the Ramen shop so that Nan could experience it for himself.

"He's really not a talker," Nan said, shrugging. He would follow Tenma, making some idle conversation along the way.

"It's been awhile since I've had ramen."
"You go there often?"
"Any good bars?"
"What is the geopolitical state of Haven?"

Stuff like that.

Assuming no meaningful conversation came up over the journey, which was blessedly short in such a large village, Nan would sit down and order after a quick glance at the menu to make sure what he wanted was available. "Shoyu with pork, chicken, full egg, and extra narutomaki, please!"

Tenma ordered the same thing as last time, he was quiet on the walk over as it was not that far of a walk, however some of the questions Nan asked to try and spark a conversation , He mostly answered in his head, but not out loud, No he had only been there once, No he doesnt drink, and.... what the heck is Geopolitical, Maybe he had misheard that portion, He would wait on that part however until they were in a less crowded area, for now he just enjoyed his meal.

The shop owner blinked for a moment.

"I recognize you! I was convinced you'd never come back here, after that last time."

"Pay up," said the girl working the stove behind the man.

"After shift."

"Fine."

"Anyways, same food as last time, huh? And... didn't he order what that girl ordered too? Quite the coincidence, eh? Those'll be right up."

The man would turn away and start on some other task, and Ciel would pick up the conversation.

"So, you're obviously not much liking questioning. How about you ask some? I'll try not to be vague, if that's what you thought. Or just tell me about yourself. Or the village. Anything, really. So long as it's not math."
