Satomi's Genin Exam

The time was nigh for Satomi to be full recognized as a Shinobi for the village. It had been sometime dealing with lessons and learning the true basics of being ninja. It was child's play. The ninja life was much more dark and complex than what is shown or taught at school. They still have to convince you that joining is in your best interest and your family. 

Satomi knew and accept the risks involved. His family had taught him already and there was no backing out now. The Senju awaited a proctor to give him his exam.

It was a rather dull morning as the raven haired Chuunin sat in the academy, drumming her fingers across the desk impatiently. She was on genin exam duty, proctoring all the potential new shinobi of the village. Yumiko didn't expect to be babysitting academy students when she became a Chuunin, wanting to travel and see all the other villages through going on missions with her team. Yet here she was, passing or failing pipsqueaks inside a gloomy room. What a drag.

"Satomi Senju, please come to the front of the room." Yumiko called out, her viridian green eyes watching as the said student would, hopefully, do as instructed and walk down to stand in front of the desk she sat behind. If he did so, she would continue, hiding her irritation at being there with a fake smile, "Please perform both the Transformation technique and the Clone technique, and explain the applications for each. Lastly, please tell me what the Will of Fire means to you." She waited as patiently as an impatient person could to see what Satomi would do.

There was proctor finally assigned for his exam. It was Yumiko, a Chuunin of Konoha. Her whole vibe was pretty intense. It seemed like something was rubbing her the wrong way. Satomi probably guessed it was him. Well he was sure he wasn't going to be a bore. He had something to prove so it was all or nothing.

Yumiko had made her words crisp and firm. He was called to the front room and he couldn't wait to move. Sitting there waiting was more nerve wracking then the whole ordeal. As the the Senju walked up to the front, Yumiko-sensei began to speak again. 

"Please perform both the Transformation technique and the Clone technique, and explain the applications for each. Lastly, please tell me what the Will of Fire means to you."

But the instructions were said with such impatience, it made Satomi glance at her. She bore into his soul with her irate eyes. Yup, she definitely wasn't pleased already. Ok, hard to please. No problem. He said in his head as he reached the front. He bowed to the class and then to Yumiko last. 

"Yes sensei," Sato replied then turning his attention back to his class. A focused face but he was a little bit nervous. Couldn't let that show so he remembered his training for days on end those two various techniques.

Satomi took a deep breath then made three handsigns. Ram, snake than tiger. The student focused his chakra into the technique. A clone burst to life in a puff of smoke next to him. It was his clone to every extent, from the face to toes and the clothing as well. There was a stir of movement as the students were partially shocked by the clone magically appearing in front of them. 

A technique that mostly everyone had a bit of trouble with in the beginning. Satomi cleared his throat as he straightened up to speak to his class. The Clone technique, a jutsu used for distraction or diversionary purposes. With the clones being a mirror of the original, they phase through attacks making them ideal for tricking opponents and other tactics. 

Then without warning Sato made more handsigns, this time the pattern was different. Dog, boar, and ram. Concentrating his chakra he performed the transformation technique. There was another puff of smoke around the clone as it went through another transformation. To everyone's immediate surprise the clone changed appearance. 

The transformation wasn't the really surprising factor but who it changed into. Yumiko-sensei herself. The clone was in every shape and likeness to the Chuunin. "The Transformation technique can also be used for diversionary purposes. Seeing an enemy like Yumiko-sensei can halt almost any enemy in their place and they may interfere with anyone's plan. Or can be used for scouting and espionage. Taking the face of a traveler no ones seen before and disappearing into a crowd. Undetectable as a Ninja should be."


He turned his attention to Yumiko as he released his control over the clones. "The Will of Fire," Sato paused for second as he really thought about his answer. What did it mean to him?


"The Will of Fire is a the code of the Konoha Ninja. To protect everyday life for those that cannot. The goal of persevering life in the Fire country and the people we are charged in protecting. It is the ninja way, that we all aspire to be. However we know that everyone can differentiate and deviate from the Will of Fire to make their own ninja way. Which is fine as it acts as a guide moreover than than anything. It will drive them to pit a Genin against a Jounin, and drive that Genin to prevail against experience, against strength, against fate.. To me however, it is the reason I want to be Hokage one day. So many threats to nature of our world there has to be balance. There is many troubling and dangerous threats out in the world some even at our doorstep. The evil outweighs the good. My willingness to end it even if it costs my life is the very essence of the Will of Fire to me. To fight against all odds and reach a level of sustainability that can carry out such an agenda. Its not easy, that's why we start early here in the academy. To learn why, how, and when to apply into our lives."


It was a mouthful and he hoped he gave a good presentation to the annoyed Chuunin sitting next to him. The class looked impressed with the presentation. They had expected so with him belonging to the famed Senju clan. There weren't that many Senju's left but it was up to him to bring the name back to world as a true and powerful clan.

Yumiko was quite pleased with the boy as he followed her instructions, not fighting her or disobeying in anyway. She could tolerate brats that listened to her a lot more than she could ones she had to rough up. Her eyes hide her approval from him, watching as he bowed to the class and then herself. She liked kids who had manners even more. Mas was this Senju racking up brownie points with the young lady.

She noticed he chose the clone technique first as she recognized the three hand signs he wove. The other noisy children in the room erupted in loud ‘ooo’s’  and ‘aww's’ as his clone took form beside him, the white smoke clearing to reveal the replica of the boy. He had indeed performed the technique to her satisfaction, but could he describe it perfectly as well?

His description was pretty good, Yumiko felt, giving him a mental nod of approval. Most of the pipsqueaks stuttered or mumbled their explanation to her, irritating the dark haired beauty to no end. Luckily the Senju held true to his clan’s name, being confident but not too cocky. He knew his place and knew the people around him, being able to sense that Yumiko was not in the best of moods. She knew he could go pretty far with that skill, if he continued to harness it.

His next action caused her to roll her foresty eyes. It wasn’t the first time a student transformed into her, yet it was always such a cliche thing to do. Most of the time they think it’ll win them favor in passing their exams. However the Chuunin was loyal to the rules set forth by the previous Hokage’s, and would not allow such low bribery to ensnare her. His words almost caused the stony teenager to laugh, as he was damn right about her stopping any man, or woman, in their tracks. She knew she was a beauty, and they were all lucky she was gracing them with her presence at this very moment. Flattery, the kid would hopefully learn soon, was a decent way to go, mostly everyone enjoys a good flattering once in awhile.

She made eye contact with Satomi as he turned to face her, contemplating what it meant to have the Will of Fire in one’s heart. What the ideology of the leaf was all about. He did in fact please the Chuunin with his speech regarding the legendary Will of Fire, but her actions betrayed how she felt, still as stony as ever. She couldn’t let her reputation be put on the line over an Academy Student, or should she say Genin, and his wise words.

Once he finished speaking, she reached out over the table to pick up one of the village headbands for Konohagakure. Then she motioned for Satomi to come closer as she spoke, “Good work, kid.” She would begin, placing the headband in his, hopefully, out stretched hand, “Today, you join the ranks of shinobi honoring the Village Hidden in the Leaves, Konohagakure. From this moment forwards whatever you do or say reflects onto the village, so make sure to always keep the village and its reputation in your thoughts when facing newcomers. Lastly, wear your headband proudly, as it is an honor and privilege to serve Konohagakure. Satomi Senju, you may now exit the room as a Genin of the Leaf Village.”

Yumiko praised and for a minute her annoyance was gone as she added, “Today, you join the ranks of shinobi honoring the Village Hidden in the Leaves, Konohagakure. From this moment forwards whatever you do or say reflects onto the village, so make sure to always keep the village and its reputation in her thoughts when facing newcomers. Lastly, wear your headband proudly, as it is an honor and privilege to serve Konohagakure. Satomi Senju, you may now exit the room as a Genin.”

She had her hands outstretched with the prized Konoha headband in her hands. Finally it was time for him to don the headband that would officially make him a ninja. He reached out and grabbed it from her. He tied the headband around his neck loosely.

"Thank you Yumiko-sensei, I will." The class applauded the graduation of Satomi Senju has he walked from the classroom as a full fledged Konoha Ninja. [Exit]
