Yurei stopped, watching Akio as the Inuzuka walked in front of him.
“This village doesn’t deserve you, Yurei,” the young man said with finality.
Yurei’s eyes twitched as Akio kept walking, never looking back. The Uchiha pursed his lips, biting them as the coiled back into his front teeth. His eyes shook with pleading sadness, but the words to call out to Akio and Esu remained in the pit of his stomach, unable to reach his mouth.
Yurei could feel the tears swelling. The young chuunin fluttered his pale eyes, watching as Akio and Esu faded into the horizon. I lost my father, Akio. I won’t lose you too.
His hands clenched into fists, Yurei’s nails grinding into his palms. The Uchiha’s eyelids lowered, showing only the lower half of his bright eyes. He turned away from Akio and took a step forward, remembering to breath. Yurei turned, looking over his shoulder. There were but two small silhouettes now, and the Uchiha could do nothing but think to himself.
I’ll make this village better, Akio. When you come back, you won’t even recognize it.
Yurei forced a smile, a singular tear running down the side of his cheek. And I’ll be waiting here for you and Esu both. You can count on it!
