It seemed the Christmas spirits thought she needed more sugar in her life, as the second Christmas Cracker unveiled yet another plump sugar plum. Hikari pocketed the item and wondered if all of the cracker’s she might potentially receive during the Christmas season would hold plums inside or if she would get a different, special gift in one or all of the other presents. She had just picked up the book she had gently placed down to pick up the crackers and turned the page to continue her lessons when a messenger bird flew overhead in the library, the creature looking for the person the message it held belonged to. Seconds after she spotted the hawk, it’s large wings flapped swiftly, allowing it to glide over to her table. Kuro’s ears twitched as he sensed the other animal’s presence, his eyes fluttering open as the bird landed on the chair adjacent to her own. Hikari had received a note, most likely from the Konoha Hospital informing her that they needed her medical assistance as soon as possible. Her slender fingers gingerly unfolded the note while her eyes scanned the contents within, affirming her suspicions.

“Come on buddy, it looks like we have to cut our research short today.” She spoke softly to her furry companion who rose to his feet the moment she began to talk, already knowing the letter had meant they were needed. Kuro was not an average wolf, he had been raised in captivity since he was quite young after Hikari had saved him in the forest. Every since she had taken him to the hospital, the two of them were inseparable unless it was absolutely necessary.

Hikari collected her belongings and was about to begin hurriedly reshelving all of the books she had gotten for her research when Ms. Haruka, who was Ms. Sarah’s assistant, waved her off while walking towards her table, “No need to do that, Hikari! I’ve got it, so you scurry off to wherever you are needed, it must be urgent if they sent a messenger bird!”

“Thank you so much, Ms. Haruka! Have a great day!” Hikari softly flashed the young blonde a small smile of gratitude as she passed by, her small legs taking large strides to exit the library quickly, for once she was outside she could sprint towards the hospital. Kuro padded beside her just as fast, his legs working just as hard as hers.
