Snakes..... (Complete)
Tue Jan 02, 2018 6:46 am
Fenrir wasn't going to be able to train today, as he had been assigned patrol duty, simply tasked with walking around outside the village and making sure no one was doing anything that could possibly be against the will of Xyxer. This was essentially the most boring task currently available, as all the creeps and bandits that would normally be near the village were to scared to come out of hiding since the big battle, worried that some of the higher ranking shinobi might catch them in a bad situation. Currently Fenrir was just standing at the gate, almost ready to go, praying to whatever god or gods may or may not be real that he'll have something fun happen to keep him from being completely bored out of his mind. He would begin his patrol by walking around the village, roughly 100 meters out from the wall, in a wide circle. This was simply so there would be eyes below the trees, where most basic sentries would be unable to see. In the case that he did see anything dangerous, he would either be able to take it out himself or quickly get backup from those posted on the wall at the time. It seemed like this would be unecessary though, as nothing of note happened during his entire path around the village, prompting him to increase the size of his circle by 50 meters. This made the circle take longer to complete, but raised his chances of seeing any suspicious activity that would give him an excuse to do something more interesting than simply walking in large circles. It was proven that this was the proper course of action when he found himself quickly distracted by something at the edge of his vision. It appeared to be nothing at first, but the more Fenrir looked at it, the more certain he was it was definitely something. Whether it was something about the arrangement of the leaves on the ground, or the trees positions, or maybe even the way the rocks were placed, there was definitely something here, but what? Staring at the suspicious area as he circled around it, Fenrir finally realized what was wrong with the situation. The arrangement of the trees, leaves, and rocks wasn't right. It seemed set up to look normal, but somehow that made it look all the stranger. This looked like an arrangement meant to hide something, something important. Something valuable. Slowly approaching the rocks, Fenrir began to move them away from the area, as well as brushing all the leaves to the side. He then stuck his Candy Cane sword into the ground, hoping to find that the dirt only went down for a short distance before giving way to a secret tunnel or something cool like that. By the power of luck and author-made coincedence, he was right, and there was a secret tunnel underneath his feet. This prompted Fenrir to begin digging furiously, using his hands and a kunai to try and get a view of what was down there. This was a very slow process, as neither hands nor kunai were made to quickly dig up large amounts of dirt, and Fenrir was no dirt-digging specialist.
After a good deal of time digging, Fenrir realized something. He had dug his hole a solid foot and a half deep now, and under it was empty space. Dirt did not hold very well with weight on it, and if he dug any further, he was likely to simply fall through. While falling into a mysterious hole would be rather helpful in getting him a closer look at the tunnel, he wasn't sure how far down the tunnel went, or what was down there, making it not a very good idea. Don't be a pussy, jump. Red was usually not the voice of reason in Fenrir's head, and Blue wasn't very talkative lately, so Fenrir decided he would just go against whatever Red said. So, he would begin to slowly stand up from his position kneeling and digging, very carefully moving himself to a position where he could quickly leave the hole without collapsing it. PUUUUUUUSSSSYYYYYYY! Fuck it, let's do this. Fenrir said as he jumped straight up, landing on, then falling through, his hole with plenty of force. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE- Fenrir's scream was interupted by the sudden thud of his rump landing on the stone floor of the tunnel he was now in. It wasn't a very long fall, but the roughness of the floor made it slightly more uncomfortable. Standing up and brushing himself off, Fenrir got a good look at the tunnel, sizing up what could have made it and why. It didn't look like anyone had been here for a while, but Fenrir was certain that something living had made the tunnel. This simply couldn't be the result of wind or water erosion, especially since there was no water down here now. It was a fairly round tunnel, slightly wider than it was tall, and as such was somewhat annoying to walk on, the small bumps offsetting Fenrir's shoes as he moved forward. After taking about ten steps, Fenrir began to hear a light rumbling from the direction of his entrance, behind him. As he turned to look, he heard it growing louder, and began to feel it, going up through his feet to the rest of his body. Suddenly, two lights appeared down the tunnel, only, they weren't normal. They had slits, almost like... snake eyes. Fuck. Fenrir quickly turned away from the eyes, sprinting down the dark tunnel. He couldn't see where he was going, but it seemed he was keeping out of reach of the gargantuan creature. This idea lasted until he turned to look over his shoulder, seeing the beast had become much closer than he had previously thought, scaring the hell out of him and causing him to stumble. Falling to the ground and rolling for a few meters, Fenrir was prepared to be completely trampled by the monster, but strangely enough, it stopped. Now that he was close and sort of over the fear caused by it, Fenrir was getting a pretty close look at the thing.
He was certainly right about the eyes belonging to a snake, and he had a theory now about what had created this cave, the massive snake fitting it near perfectly in size and shape. Fenrir was almost ready to get up and continue running, but to his utter surprise, the snake spoke. What are you doing here? There has not been a human in these tunnels for longer than you have lived. While startled, Fenrir knew that his life could depend on his answer, as he would be unable to fight this thing in a space so perfectly fitted to it. I found the tunnel in the woods, and dug down here to investigate. I'm Fenrir, a genin of Kirigakure, Great Snake. This was accented with a small bow from Fenrir, letting the snake know that Fenrir saw it as a superior. It was hard not to, with its immense size and obvious power. It was also at this point that the ninja realized something. He had recently been reading a book he purchased in Konohagakure titled The Legendary Sannin. In it, one of the three sannin, Orochimaru, used snake summons. If he was from Konoha and used snake summons, it was possible that this tunnel led to the home of the Snake Summon Race. They could be a very powerful ally for a Space-Time user such as Fenrir, so this might actually be a better cover than what he had started with. I was hoping I would be able to sign a contract with the Great Snakes, and this tunnel seemed like a good place to look. The snake stared closely at Fenrir for a moment, as if sizing him up. As he did, his tongue flickered in and out of his tongue, as if it was helping to analyze the genin. I don't like this. You should run. It wasn't often that Red would give the suggestion of retreat, and this was normally a sign that Fenrir was in way over his head, but it had already been proven that the snake was faster than Fenrir, and so he would simply need to hope what he had said was enough to convince the snake that he was worthwhile. After what felt like an eternity of suspense, the snake spoke once more. You interest me. All of the humans I have met on the surface stink of fear when they gaze upon my form, but I taste no fear from you, I taste... nothing. The Kirigakure genin had no choice but to take this as a compliment, but he wasn't entirely sure it really counted as one. Proceed, I will guide you to our home. Letting out a small sigh of relief, Fenrir stood once again and began running down the tunnel. This time the snake kept pace with him, staying about 5 meters behind at all times. It was from this position that he gave Fenrir instructions on when he would need to turn, and how much by, as the tunnel was still pitch black and the snake seemed to know his way around fairly well.
After a few hours of travel, Fenrir had slowed to a light jog, beginning to tire from all of the running. Are we almost there Great One? The snake gave what seemed to be a sound of displeasure, but Fenrir was unable to classify it as a sigh or grunt, the sound strange coming from the snake's mouth. My name is Jiudakai, and you can call me by that name. There is a single Great One, and I am certainly not him. This was good for Fenrir, as knowing this snakes name meant he may be able to summon him later, and this seemed like a good summon to have. We will arrive soon, it is not far from here. Satisfied with the answer, Fenrir sped up to a run once again, hoping to reach his goal quickly so he could begin his training as soon as possible. This was all optimistic thinking of course, as there was still a chance of this just being Jiudakai's lair, and he was just a hungry snake looking for an eager meal. Thinking about this, Fenrir decided that if the snake tried to eat him, he would at least cause some serious digestive issues on the way down, seeing as he had already decided he wouldn't win a fight between the two. After a particularly sharp right turn, Fenrir saw a small light in the distance, like the opening of a tunnel. As it grew larger, the view became clearer, and when he was within 50 meters, he could tell that it wasn't the end of his subterranean adventure, but simply a doorway into a larger area, a stark contrast to the pitch black tunnel he had been in. Upon entering the room, he noticed a number of other differences, most notably its design. This room seemed to have been made by human hands, or at least by a very skilled snake. There were even lit sconces, filled with a beautiful purple flame, lighting the room with their light. Intricately carved pillars were placed throughout the room, seemingly for both support and decoration. In the center of the room, a truly great snake, white in color, lay coiled upon a large stone throne. Approaching the throne, Fenrir kneeled before this great creature. It was large, but he couldn't tell how large, as it's coiled position combined with the fact that part of its body was behind the throne hid its true size. Awaiting a command or statement from the White Snake, Fenrir remained kneeling. After a few seconds had passed, the White Snake spoke. Fenrir of Kirigakure, you have come far to seek us out. Why is this? Fenrir was surprised at hearing his name come from the snake, and assumed that his earlier conversation had already been explained to it. Fenrir would continue where he had left off with the previous snake, who seemed to have simply vanished. I have come here hoping to sign a contract with you, that I might use your contract as well as my particular skills to become more powerful. You see, I am a Space-Time specialist, and that doesn't provide very many offensive capabilities without the assistance of a Summon Race. As such, I found it necessary to find one, and what summon race would be better than the Great Snakes? The Snake didn't seem to care much for what he had said, but didn't seem angry either, so that was good. You want to use our power to further your own goals? At first Fenrir thought the snake was unhappy with this, but then he let out a small chuckle, albeit a terrifying one, but still a chuckle. You may use our power, but you must also let us use yours, and you will be required to help us in any task that is set before you. Do you agree to these terms? The snake seemed reasonable, and despite popular belief, trustworthy. I agree to your terms, Great White Snake.
The snake reached its head back, wrapping it's teeth around a scroll which was then dropped in front of the throne. Unrolling the scroll, Fenrir saw a number of bloodstains, some shaped like hands, some simply the size of fingerprints, and knew what he was supposed to do. He drew his kunai, sliced open his palm, and placed it to the right of the other signatures, just after the most recent, which seemed to be years old. It stung, but for some reason the idea of being able to summon these snakes mitigated the pain, as if his achievement made the pain worthless. He then rolled the scroll back up, handing it to the White Snake, who placed it back behind his throne. Leave this place, you are no longer needed here. Jiudakai, show our guest his way back. With that the huge snake from earlier would reappear, slithering quickly out from one of the many tunnels on the walls of the room, coming to guide Fenrir to the tunnel which he had entered from. Once again, Fenrir took up a run down the tunnel, being told where to turn in the pitch black place by the snake behind him, the one called Jiudakai. Once he began to reach the light ahead, he saw the shape of another snake beside him. This one was much smaller than Jiudakai, and seemed to be purple, although it was difficult to tell in the low light environment. Upon reaching the exit tunnel, Fenrir climbed out through the hole he had made before, joined by the small purple snake. Turning to look at the creature, Fenrir noted it's sharp eyes. This was definitely another of the intelligent snake species, not simply a garden variety snake. What's your name? The snake moved closer while speaking, being much quieter than the other two snakes had been. I'm Kindo, and we are currently partners. I am to be the first summon allowed to you by the Snake Contract. Kindo, interesting. The small snake had some level of ability, as it was able to keep up on the journey through the tunnels, but Fenrir wasn't entirely sure if he would be useful in a combat situation or not. He was not very adept at judging snakes skill levels yet, seeing as he had met his first talking snakes today. Well Kindo, do you feel like racing back to the village? It's only a couple hundred meters that way. Fenrir would point in the direction of the village, as it was unable to be seen through the thick leaves, then he would take off towards it, little snek in tow. Soon they would reach their destination, and Fenrir's time patrolling would be over, and the time for training would begin.
