Allegro had been assigned to his next mission to be completed by himself. He left his home with his ninja tools and scrolls gathered. There was a chance he did not need them, but it was a shinobi’s duty to be ready for anything. It would appear that his team would be separated for just a bit longer while they waited for their sensei to return from his journey to the Land of Lightning. He still knew nothing about Kinzoku sensei’s personality, strength, or skill. He must be powerful, with how high in demand he was for missions. This time it seems he is away to the Lightning Country, but the details of his mission could not be disclosed. Anyway, now was not the time to worry about that. The boy unfolded the piece of paper that contained his mission details as he walked toward the village gates. Allegro was not particularly impressed at first. His missions had been more like errands as of late. There was a special message in the note details regarding his assignment. It appears that Allegro had been matched with this mission especially because of his knack for Fuuinjutsu. Allegro wondered where the correlation between the two was. However he tried to maintain a positive outlook on all of his missions. He was a positive force in the Leaf Village and was helping the villagers either way he looked at it.
In a matter of paces, Allegro had finally arrived at the village gates, he was welcomed by a small team of shinobi. There were six of them altogether, with Allegro included, now standing just before the stairs that led to the top of the Village Gates. Allegro had observed that the men seemed pretty regular run of the mill shinobi. He noticed that one of them even had those pale, pupilless eyes like Hikari senpai’s. He must have been from the Hyuuga clan. Allegro bowed briefly to announce his arrival, letting his now long dreads dangle over his head. The shinobi began to gather around him.
“Oh, you’re early! You must be Allegro, the new genin recruit.” Said the apparent leader of the squad. Allegro exchanged greetings and fist bumps all around with the other ninja around. He was happy to meet more of his comrades in the village, even if they were NPC. He wondered if all of them had guard duty as well. Even though the village was a rather large one, even he thought that 5 ninja to guard the gates was a bit excessive. This was only a D ranked assignment after all. He exchanged formalities with the man speaking. Allegro concluded that he must have been the one who requested the job. The ninja continued on, “My name is Joe, and I am the captain of the Konoha Barrier Squad. We help oversee the maintenance of the sensory fuuinjutsu barrier that stretches over the entire village and we are also the first responders to any trouble that might be coming our way.” The boy followed every Joe was saying. He could not hide the fact that this was peaking his interest. He was acquiring a growing taste for Fuuinjutsu, and this appeared to be an opportunity to study a more advanced one. Allegro had deeply regretted questioning the keen eye and thoughtful mind of the Hokage, who had assigned the mission. Even though they had never officially met, Hokage sama was clearly keeping a watchful eye over him. What shocked him the most was that the other members of the fuinjutsu barrier squad seemed average at first glance. Instead, Allegro would grow to realize that the shinobi before him were each skilled in the barrier arts in some way. The boy’s flurry of thoughts was suddenly interrupted as Captain Joe continued the mission detail. “Lately there’s been some unidentified individuals making it past the barrier undetected. At first, we concluded it was due to lack of diligence within the barrier team. A couple of ours have been written up for sleeping on the job” As Joe spoke, a few of the guys behind him started to rub their head and laugh the embarrassing moment off. Allegro kept listening. “…And luckily, none of the individuals seemed dangerous after we followed up with them. But then an incident occurred that led me to recruit a new genin to the team. It seems one of the bogies has been siphoning illegal products into the village, using the weakness in our detection unit to his advantage. Allegro. Go with the rest of the squad and catch this guy!”
Allegro gave a firm “Yes sir” before vanishing to his post. Allegro looked beyond the gates of the village, and could now see the traces of Fuinjutsu. The large array of kanji seals were now clear as day. He mentally deciphered its coding and recorded the detail of the technique. He was sure to be able to use these details as schematics for jutsu of his own creation. The ability to recognize and interpret fuinjutsu was something that all masters of sealing arts should be able to do. He watched the large kanji arrays curving its shape to form a dome over the entire village. It had to extend for miles. It would not be an easy feat identifying the perpetrator with such a large range to cover. It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Allegro could not give up, though. There were people depending on him to rise to the occasion. A few hours had past and Allegro had patrolled the full scale of the wall no less than 10 times. It couldn’t hurt to get his cardio on while on a mission. But somehow, Allegro could not help feeling that something was missing. Or rather, there was nothing missing. Everything had seemed to be perfectly in order. Allegro sat perched on the ceiling of a watch tower that reached past the length of village gates. He was facing outside the village. He wondered what he could be missing, then put himself in the shoes of a criminal. If Allegro were a smuggling no good launderer, how would he do it. After a few moments of deep brooding, it finally came to the genin. He flipped around so that he was now sitting facing the village and his back. He had an idea.
"Whoever is sneaking illegal goods past this barrier knows exactly how it operates...because it's an inside job!"
Allegro exclaimed as he the epiphany came to his head. As the mighty Konoha wind shook what seemed to be millions of leaves from the trees in the forest, Allegro stood there motionless while his dreadlocks fluttered in the wind. His satin like dark skin glistened in the light of dusk. He was contemplating what his plan of action would be, and who he would be able to trust, if anyone at all. It was the type of pondering that you would only see in action drama movies. He had to make it look good, just in case anyone was watching. Finally, the boy flickered away, towards the barrier team headquarters. Allegro reported to where the barrier squad were diligently working, or at least where they should have been working. He looked around as he walked in, and then immediately drew a kunai knife to his guard. What he would see would shock him! The entire barrier squad was soundly unconsious. But not from fatigue or laziness, but from genjutsu. Allegro could vividly remember the sensation from his training sessions with one of the villages most potent genjutsu users, Yensung Aburame. What's more, he could see that a disturbance was shown on the sensory report but no one except Allegro was currently conscious to report it. It seems whoever had cast this genjutsu had done so to allow him to transport his contraband without notice. The ninja finished up his inspection before reaching into the weapons pouch on his backside. Finally, Allegro also noticed that one member of the team was missing. Captain Joe.
Allegro quickly whipped out a ninja scroll and unraveled it. With a burst of chakra, a uniquely designed acoustic guitar came forth, and Allegro grabbed it by its neck, being both careful and carefree with the instrument at the same time. His first objective was to try and thwart the genjutsu and free his comrades from the affliction. He had to act fast and get word out to the Hokage, as per his mission instructions. He gave the guitar a dramatic windmill strum that caused it to emit a purifying sound. The sound waves emanated Allegro’s chakra and the sound that came from it seemed harsh and almost electronic, despite the fact that he was playing a purely acoustic guitar. One by one, the ninja began waking up out of their slumber with a state of shock on their faces. It snapped the ninja on the barrier squad out of their daze as if from an eternal slumber.
“Jeez, my head. What the hell happened? We were all working when Joe said we were all relieved of duty for the evening…” The guys did their best to recount their experience on what just happened, even though there were several different versions of the story. It did not matter though, he had enough evidence to make an arrest. The perpetrator was Joe, the captain of the barrier squad. Allegro did not want to throw off the team dynamic by exposing its leader as a traitor. He would have to choose his words carefully.
"We have to report this disturbance to Hokage-Sama immediately! There is someone infiltrating the village! Two of us should stay behind and take note of everything the culprit is bringing into the village. The rest of us will intercept them at the village gates."
The fellow ninja fell in line, confirming that they’ve heard their instructions. Two ninja stayed behind to carefully observe the fuinjutsu orb that mapped the village bortder. Together with the remaining ninja, Allegro raced to the scene. When they got there, all personel had their weapons drawn. Allegro pointed the Kunai straight at the perpetrator who froze in place with his back turned. He was carrying a box of goods with a cover over it. When he turned around, everyone looked surprised except for Allegro.
“Joe senpai. Surrender quietly. What you are doing is treason against the Leaf Village”
He could sense that some of the members of the barrier team were flustered. They didn’t know what to make of this discovery. Joe said no words, but let out an evil cackle.
“So, you’ve found me, huh? Looks like you’re a bright one” he said, but not before completing an array of hand seals. He burped out a series of fireballs heading directly for the barrier team. They all jumped out of harms way each time he emitted a fireball. As time went on, the ninja grew tired. Allegro had to act fast if he was gonna save the day. The mission was not over until he had successfully warned the Hokage of the situation. He raised his arm, signaling the barrier squad to contact the Hokage. He knew the village had a unique communication team to communicate orders over a long distance.
Joe kept at his annoyingly evil cackle as he tried to stop the group with a myriad of shuriken. Allegro summoned a blade from the depths with his Storage Displacement technique and immediately began deflecting shuriken left and right. He was protecting the members of the barrier squad. When he got a free chance, he launched the sword at Joe, just scraping his left cheek. While the sword was flying Allegro weaved hand seals and emited a large sound wave from his mouth. The screeching sound formed a conical beam that expanded in Joe’s direction.
The smuggler held his ears and dropped to his knees, defeated. The supporting ninja from the barrier team quickly used ther fuinjutsu to seal Joe in place. There mission was done. Now it was time for Allegro to tell the Hokage what had happened.
Mission Accomplished.
