Reaching for the Top
Sun Apr 01, 2018 11:54 pm
Tall trees that of which were easily towering over even the highest of buildings were all around Suzume as she when about her daily adventures. Looking up above her, it seemed as though the treetops created a ceiling with their leaves. Suzume wanted to get a leaf all the way from there. She began her first few attempts climbing like a regular person would, grabbing from branch to branch hoping she wouldn't slip. She soon realized this could never work. These trees were several stories high, and that would take her all day. She recalled how next week at the academy she would be taught the tree climbing and surface walking technique. She figured she knew enough about it to figure it out herself, so she gave it a try.
First, Suzume thought it would be best to channel her chakra to her hands, as that's how she would usually climb a tree and keep balance while standing. Giving it a go, she took a moment to let it flow all the way to her finger tips - but made her somewhat tired as this was something she wasn't used to, being such a young student. Letting her chakra go, she wilted over taking sharp and quick breaths to regain more stability. Suzume frowned that she didn't keep with it, because now that process had to be repeated all over again. Once redoing it, she went up to the tree and tried what she thought was this tree climbing ability.
Grabbing a branch, she thought that this method would have somehow make it more efficient to get up. However, it didn't actually do anything. Then, she remember how in the in field book, the diagram showed a ninja running directly up the tree, without utilizing any branches to progress levels. Now having a somewhat closer idea in how to do this, Suzume dropped back to the ground, once at the very bottom of this tree. Still having her chakra to her hands, she took some steps back from it then bolted forwards. She attempted to wall run up the tree, using her hands as an extra force. Yet, this didn't work. Her momentum soon ran out and she fell back to the base of the tree. The landing hurt a bit, but not enough to stop her. Suzume got back up, noting that this way would not work. She took a break to figure out some other way.
Looking at her hands, she saw that she had a few splinters from scraping her hands while falling. Not wanting to get them hurt further, she thought about a way to get up there without using her hands. As she took care of the small injuries, she thought that maybe she should get her chakra to bond to the tree's surface, that way she would have a way to balance if she were to stand on it. Giving this another attempt, she once again stood a few yards away from the tree. Now focusing her chakra to her feet and not her hands, Suzume ran at it again, taking a first step onto the bark and somehow moving along towards the top using only her chakra. She made it a few branches up, not believing she truly made it work. Now standing on the branch, she went to move towards the top even further. Although, she missed a step and fell once more. But, this time she prevented from having a hard hit to the ground by using her chakra to sort of bind to the tree. At this point she was standing parallel to the ground, which was something Suzume never gave thought could be possible. Chuckling with amazement, she continued her way until she began to grow to tired to continue. Perhaps another day would be good to get all the way to the top and grab a leaf, but she was pleased that she managed to figure out this technique before officially learning it from school.
