It's Been a Long Time Coming
Fri Dec 21, 2018 8:08 am
The former commander of Hoshigakure’s Anbu corps could be seen stalking rather quickly towards the gates of the village with a small smirk upon his scarred face. After a small ‘meeting’ with his former supervisor Dr. Solus in the Hoshigakure Hospital a great deal of his previous anger had been abated. As it turned out Solus alone had been responsible for Kenshin not knowing about the death of Akihana, as the man had not incorrectly believed that the knowledge of her death would destroy the young man. The multi-hearted young teen had not exactly taken kindly to the deceit at the hands of his former superior, and to make matter even worse Dr. Solus had been one of the few people that he had placed even a modicum of trust in. By the end of their hours long ‘meeting’ Kenshin left the office of the man that he had once trusted with a twisted smirk fixed firmly upon his scarred face. The damage that one could do the mind with Genjutsu was truly terrifying to think about, and Kenshin’s twisted smirk only grew as he imagined the reaction the discovery of Dr. Solus’ seemingly lifeless husk would get.
He had taken Akihana’s hospital records from the man's office as he left, and as of now they were safely stored away within his Storage Displacement. He didn’t take them out of sentiment, but because he wished to know just what it was that had ended up killing the woman that he had come to view as a mother. The fact that she had sorely outclassed him in terms of Medical prowess also had something to do with why he had taken the records, as that meant that whatever had killed her was beyond even her abilities to heal. The fact that he hadn’t stolen her corpse from the village morgue on the other hand was based solely on sentiment… he simply couldn’t bring himself to steal her body away from the village that she had given her life to. Nor could he stomach the idea of defiling her corpse in the same manner that he had the corpses of countless others.
The silver haired youth reached the gates only moments later, and to his slight disappointment he didn’t recognise either of the guards on duty. He had been hoping that Han would be on duty so that he could at least say farewell to the old bastard. To a much lesser extent he had hoped that perhaps Gin was on duty, if only so that he could finally do Han a favour and kill the insufferable little asshole. The ‘Jounin’ of Hoshigakure wasted no time and simply walked through the open gates, giving a small nod to the gate guards as he did so. He heard them marking down his departure in the logs and simply gave a smirk, wondering just how the two men would react when they found out that they had simply allowed the now Missing Ninja leave.
Hehe… it was time for the monster to have some fun.

The day had gone well so far. The gate traffic was at its usual steady pace, allowing those who were standing guard to be a little more relaxed with where they stood, as long as they didn't leave the gate. Yuuma took the opportunity to stand on the outer side of the gate, allowing him to observe the land around the city. It was dry, not quite arid, but certainly, a landscape that was different than the one he was used to. Granted, the nature reserve that had been created by someone long ago made this place almost feel like a desert paradise compared to the surrounding landscape. There were a lake and trees. It was as if a slice of his home was cut from the earth and transplanted here, in what would otherwise be a struggling landscape. There was something tranquil about it.
But the tranquility would have to wait, as right now, he was working. The people of the village seemed content going about their business with the usual hassle of paperwork, but he knew that guarding the gate was not a task for slacking. He and the two other guards would be the first response should anything troubling appear, so as much as he might like to stand around and observe the scenery, Yuuma had to keep his wits about him. So when a scarred faced man approached the gate, Yuuma would see it as just his duty to begin approaching the man head-on. Something about this person was strange. A familiar itch returning to the center of Yuuma's chest, which was addressed by a few wayward fingers. Yuuma was not one to be fearful of a marred visage, having tended to a bruised and beaten face of his own a couple times. "I wonder what this guy's deal is." He idly wondered to himself. Yuuma had never seen him around the village, but the way he walked, the way he moved, said he had confidence. And rightly so.
As Yuuma drew near the man, he would lift a hand in greeting. "Good evening." He would speak out plainly, bright blue eyes watching over the strange man's features. "Do you have your auth-" A whistle cut Yuuma off, turning his gaze back to the guard box on the inside. From within, one of the two guards lifted a hand with a thumb pointed upwards. A sign Yuuma could understand as an unspoken voucher. Whoever this strange man was, the guards knew him and allowed his passage uncontested. That was good enough for him. Stepping aside, Yuuma would motion in the direction the man had previously been walking, swallowing some. "Pardon me. Travel safe, friend." He would say, not contesting the man further. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, warning signs had been going off. Not unlike the ones he had felt that day with that man in the academy. Despite this, Yuuma couldn't allow that memory- and the fear it had been laced with- to prevent him from doing his job he had accepted.
Something about this man made his chest itch.

As Kenshin approached the gates his rather sharp eyes would take note of a rather unassuming looking teen that had begun to make their way towards him, all the while scratching the center of their chest. He looked to be somewhere around the same age as Kenshin, even if he was a fair bit shorter than the unnatural looking albino. His hair was black while both of his eyes were a rather bull blue. The other teen appeared to be clad in a rather faded pair of jeans with tears near the knees, but it was obvious that these tears were more from the age of the jeans than as a fashion statement. On his feet were a pair of faded looking boots, although they were in much better condition than his jeans, and around his neck was a rather strange looking leather cord with some strange pendant upon it… was he perhaps religious? Worn upon his head, hiding most of his dark locks, was an almost beanie-like hat, and strapped to his right leg was a single weapon pouch.
All in all he looked to be more of a pauper than a Shinobi, but that was obviously not the case if the Hoshigakure headband around his neck was any indication. His chakra signature was pathetically low however, so it was rather obvious that this man was a Genin, and a very green one at that. He was likely stationed to work alongside the guards and learn what he would be expected to do when he became a Chunin. Or rather, if he managed to become a Chunin, because with each step he took closer to the albino his chances of actually hitting that milestone lessened. Kenshin did have to admit though… it wasn’t often that he managed to see someone that was as observant as the young man that was approaching him. The man was obviously observing him rather carefully as he approached, at least if the way that his eyes were tracking his movement and seemingly memorizing his facial features were any indication.
“Good evening” the young man would say in a rather low voice, all the while raising his right hand up in greeting. Kenshin had yet to stop walking, but his cold silver eyes would stay fixed upon the young man that stood rather close to his current position.
“Do you have your auth-” the boy would begin asking, only to be cut off by a rather shrill whistle from the guard booth. Kenshin would simply allow his smirk to widen as he continued walking, now certain that the boy wasn’t going to try halting his exit.
“Pardon me. Travel safe, friend” the young man would say. The half-blood Uzumaki had to bite his tongue to stop a rather sharp barb from being sent back at the newbie as he passed through the open gates. Instead he would simply give a small nod as he continues to walk down the road out of the village, although whether the nod was to the boy or the gate guards would be unclear.
He was simply glad that nobody had been stupid enough to try to stop his exit… but then again, perhaps causing a little mayhem before his departure would have been fun.

Something about that guy.
Yuuma scratched his chest idly as his eyes followed the man from the gates. Who was that guy? He could still hear his heartbeat in his ears, his body sending him danger signs just from looking at the man. Was this the same kind of person as the man in the Academy? Is this the sort of people that were bred here, in the land of Stars? That fear slowly morphed into that steely, cold running focus. "This is another person who I have to become more like. I still have a long way to go." But, his new found inspiration would have to wait. The day of gate guarding was long, and he had to summon the fortitude to get him through just fine. Even if he had to approach someone who was far beyond him in experience.
