A Wild Encounter (getting a monkey)
Wed Sep 04, 2019 8:37 pm
Kizaru was pleased with his recent success in improving his puppetry. Each day he could see more and more progress in his skills. This day he decided he would train in the forests surrounding Konoha. He figured he would do well to practice flying his bat in a wooded area where trees would obstruct his path.
"Okay Mochi, let's go!" He said, not thinking it was weird at all to talk to a puppet. He strapped Mochi into his leg holster and headed out, locking his door behind him.
The weather was nice and there was a slight breeze that rippled through the leaves of the trees. Konoha's forest was dense and the sunlight showed through the trees in golden Ray's. Kizaru took a long moment to take in the view and the sounds of all the life around him. After snapping out of his daydreaming, he continued walking until he found a good place to train.
He reached an area where he felt comfortable to begin and stopped. He reached his left hand to his side and attached the three chakra threads required to control his puppet. With a flick of his fingers the small bat would pull out of its holster and it's wings would extend. Kizaru quickly launched into flying the puppet and trying to control his threads as they wrapped around trees and branches. After weaving through a few trees he would begin to lose control and have to fly back or disconnect and reconnect the strings. He repeated this process but made very little progress after several attempts.
"Maybe I need a closer range puppet for this type of environment. I'll have to look into that soon. Cant be caught defenseless." He thought.
He figured instead of killing himself trying to weave through the trees, he would test the puppet's weapons. He pulled Mochi back to him and checked that the wing blades were sharpened. With that clear he tossed out the bat and flicked his fingers so that the blades would extend.
He began to fly Mochi around close to him and then launched it forward only slightly tilting the bat so its wing would slice a small tree branch. The blade went through and Kizaru smiled. He cut a couple more and was getting pretty good when suddenly he heard a yelp and saw something fall from a branch he had cut.
Startled he pulled Mochi back to him and went to check what it was. When he reached the site of the noise he was surprised to see a small yellowish monkey laying on the forest floor, unconscious.
"Oh man, what happened little guy? You fall out of the tree?" He took the little creature in his arms and sat with his back against a tree. He would wait with it until it woke up.

Kizaru sat and held the little yellow monkey in his lap for a little while before the thing stirred and began to wake up.
"Oh look you're awake now." He said as the tamarin sat up and looked at him.
It didnt run away like he expected it to. It instead stayed sat on his lap looking at him. He wasn't really sure what to do about the whole situation. He felt pretty responsible for knocking the little guy out of the tree. He seemed pretty calm. As he stared at the monkey, the thing crawled up his shirt sleeve. Kizaru squirmed a little as the fur tickled his skin.
The little guy climbed out the neck hole of his hoodie and sat on his shoulder. It made some quiet chittering noises and rubbed it's own belly.
"Are you hungry little man?" He asked his new fast friend. The monkey screeched happily and bounced up and down on his shoulder.
Where was this thing's parents? It appeared to be young and Kizaru knew monkeys tended to stay with their mothers until they were mature. Maybe his family died? He wasnt sure, but he didn't see any other monkeys around. He couldnt just leave it here. It would starve or get eaten by a predator.
"I guess I'll just have to bring you home little fella." He said, standing up slowly so not to frighten his new friend. "What do you even eat?" He wondered out loud.
He figured fruits would be a good bet and headed to the market. He was sure there would be a produce store that had what he needed. He wasnt far out into the woods so the walk would only be roughly fifteen minutes. As he started walking his stomach grumbled signifying that he was hungry too.
"We'll both get something to eat then." He laughed.
He was surprised at how well behaved this seemingly wild animal was. It sat nicely on his shoulder, sometimes switching shoulders and climbing over the top of his head each time, all the way back to the village. Kizaru couldnt help but talk to his new buddy all the way back. He just asked typical getting to know you questions, even though he knew the monkey wouldnt be able to hold a conversation. It was just nice to have someone to bounce words off of. Not that the animal was without personality. It tilted its head inquisitively when he asked it questions and would sometimes even respond with some kind of vocalization. It liked to chitter a lot but occasionally it would let out happy screeches.
At the market Kizaru received some odd glances and double takes as he was sure not many people had walked through town with a monkey on their shoulder before. He stepped up to a fruit stand that seemed to specialize in fruits. He scratched his head and wondered what he should get for his new pal. Bananas would probably be good but what about some variety? He decided to grab not only the bananas but also some peaches as well. A decision the monkey seemed quite happy about. After he paid he handed a banana to the creature on his shoulder.
"If you're going to be sticking around I need to give you a name." He said as the tamarin began peeling the banana. The creature took the peel completely off from the bottom up and went to toss it over it's shoulder. Kizaru caught the peel and placed it in a nearby trash bin. "I oughta call you messy. You cant just throw trash on the streets." He sighed.
He kept walking while the tamarin ate happily on his shoulder, "How about Kimchi? You like that name?" The monkey stopped eating for a moment and yelped a good sounding yelp. "I'll take that as a yes. Nice to meet you Kimchi."
Kizaru had a big grin on his face. He loved animals but never had any of his own. The closest thing he ever had were his Mochi bat puppets. A monkey would be an interesting pet. He hoped his landlord wouldnt mind. What he didnt know wouldnt hurt him.
The pair stopped off at one more store to pick Kizaru up some dinner as well. He went with a hamburger and a bag of chips. Not the best dinner but he had other things on his mind at the moment besides nutrition. Kimchi finished his banana and began poking Kizaru in the head.
"You want another already? What about a peach?" He handed Kimchi a peach which quieted the little guy down. "You're a hungry boy aren't ya?" He scratched the creatures head and turned down the road toward his apartment.
He hoped the small space would be enough for Kimchi. He wouldnt be in there often but he couldn't be running around crazy at night. They would be home before long. They walked up the stairs to Kizaru's apartment and went in. It wasnt much space but there were some shelves and a cabinate that Kimchi could climb around on.
"Welcome home Kimchi." He said placing the monkey on his bed. "Make yourself at home. Uhh....we gotta figure out the house training situation quick." He had no idea what to do. He scratched his head nervously. "I guess you can just come and go out the window? Do you get that Kimchi? Do your business outside!"
The monkey tilted its head and walked over to the now open window. He climbed up and out onto a tree right near the window. "Make sure you come back!"
Kizaru hoped he hadn't just loosed a wild animal into the village. He would be back, this is where the food was. He was a little worried about whether or not Kimchi would come back after all. Worrying wouldn't get anything done though, so he set to work on a little tree perch. He had some spare cuts of wood from his puppets that he could make a small tree with several branches. Kimchi would be able to sit on different branches at different heights. Kizaru hoped it would remind the young tamarin of the forest while they were home. He made one of the branches thicker than the others so Kimchi would be able sleep on it without slipping off.
Around an hour went by after the window was opened and Kimchi headed out. It was starting to look like the monkey wasnt going to come back. The sun had gone down and Kizaru was thinking it was about time to go to bed. He would look for Kimchi in the morning. He couldn't just leave a monkey on the loose.
He turned out the lights and got into bed, leaving the window open. Just in case his buddy decided to come back during the night. Under the blanket after a long day Kizaru was quick to fall asleep. A couple hours into the night he was stirred from his sleep by the sound of wood creaking. He shot up in his bed and looked around. He had to squint his eyes to see in the dark but after his eyes adjusted he could see the outline of a small monkey laying on it's back atop the tree he had built earlier.
"Welcome home Kimchi" he smiled and went back to sleep.
The next morning Kizaru woke up to his new friend laying sprawled out on his desk top. He must've moved in the night. The young shinobi smiled and started cutting up a banana for Kimchi. He hadnt had one in forever himself so he decided to cut up another. He placed the monkey's share on a small plate and set it on the desk next to the sleeping creature.
"I guess he is gonna stick around after all. That's alright with me." He thought as he ate his banana. The flavor brought him back to traveling with his parents. They used to eat fruits and vegetables from all different lands. Everywhere they traveled his family would adapt to the areas foods. It was always cheaper to buy the local favorites.
As he reminisced, Kimchi slowly opened his eyes. He squinted a bit as his large eyes adapted to the morning light. The little monkey yawned and made a few high pitched squeaks.
"Hey bud. Breakfast is on the table right there," Kizaru pointed at the plate to the monkey's right. "I wonder where you were yesterday? Hopefully not getting into trouble."
He laughed as he thought of the antics a little monkey like Kimchi would get up to. Maybe one day he would follow him around to see what it is he does.
"If you're going to be hanging out with me, I guess you should see what I do." The monkey would need to be accustomed to life as a shinobi. Even if he wasn't in combat himself there would be danger all around. He would spend the entirety of the day showing Kimchi his puppets and the tools he used to create them. He showed him jutsu and told him about the missions he had been on.
Kimchi didn't leave his side the whole day.
