Grave Robbers

Coffee stained lips pressed against the rim of a beige mug and the smell of cigarettes lingered in the air. Behind the desk of the mission office was a woman who was far to old to be in the field, but still serving her village as a ‘shinobi’. The woman pushed an envelop towards Fu and greeted her like she had done several times before.

“Today’s your lucky day kid, your first C rank mission. Good luck.”

The woman would say to Fu. Really my first one?! She thought to herself, snatching the envelope off of the counter and proceeding to rush out of the building and into the light. Fu ripped it open to find out what she was going to be doing. The mission stated:

A nearby burial grounds of the hidden leaf village has been seeing some unwanted activity over the past few weeks. Reports of groundskeepers finding tombs and crypts raided for loot and what not have been found, disgracing the bodies of the ones whom once laid there. Your job is to go out there at night, find the robbers, and bring them in for questioning so that those belongings can be returned to their rightful place, this cannot continue.

Great. Her first C rank mission and she was going to be stuck in a graveyard at night. Fu wasn’t entirely thrilled with the spooky factor of the mission, but fortunately she wasn’t going to have to do the mission alone because there were some familiar names on the mission documents.

Fu spent her time in the marketplace waiting for the sun to set so she could meet her teammates. The mission stated specifically to investigate at night because the robbers wouldn’t dare think of robbing the cemetery in day light. Fu took the time to update her shinobi wardrobe. Fu was now wearing a new dark green shirt and black shinobi pants along with a pair of standard shoes. Along her belt were two shinobi weapon pouches and leaf head band strapped securely to her left arm.

Fu leaned up against the side of the mission building for her teammates to arrive to they could proceed with strategizing a way to capture the thieves.

As the sun set along the far horizon the heat and light along the forests of the Leaf Village would slowly dim away to make way for calming cool breezes and twinkling stars slowly coming into view in the still red sky. The leaves would rustle softly, a few falling off their branches and floating softly along the ground, as a man in a blue jacket calmly walked along a leaf covered road that lead to an open area with stone graves and crypts populating it's grounds. Crossing the threshold of this burial site's gated entrance Vergil stepped onto the grassy terrain and halted in silence to look around what was possibly going to be the place where he'd fulfill his first C rank mission. He had received word from his higher ups that a few thieves were helping themselves to whatever riches the dead had been offered as he could see the remnants of holes that had been dug but covered once more around the site. Gripping his sheathed katana he took a few steps deeper into the site while feeling a flash of anger float into his mind. The dead deserved eternal rest and instead they were being mooched off of by rats that deserved harsh judgement.

Walking the field he noticed that he was the only one there, even though he had been informed that he was supposed to have help in this mission, as he decided to take his time to examine the ground for clues that may have been left behind by the thieves. By reports that he had been told about the thieves had struck again last night yet were ran off by passing civilians making a late night visit. That being the case he would take his time examining the entire grounds very closely while waiting for night to fall and his team to arrive.

The sun began to slowly ebb into the embers of the night, the young Hozuki had been out for most of the day doing some small training in the meantime. He had been busy as of late doing missions and getting into the newer training regimen that he had came up with after his meeting with Kaito. None the less he had found himself in a particular bind. His track record with E and D rank missions had been decreasing as of late. He had wondered if he had needed to jump up to higher missions, but as fortune would have it he found himself in front of the mission request building. Walking into it he wiped a small line of sweat off of his brow, looking around at the C rank request area for something to pass the time. Most of the missions had been done during the day, but in front of him lied a few missions that were slated for tonight for some reason.

Asking about the mission he was both intrigued and mortified at the fact that someone had been stealing from graves, disturbing the final resting place of those that had past way before their time. Taking on the mission he was notified that a few more people would be joining him in this endeavor and he was to meet them outside of the mission request building. Making a small nod he would slide his hands into his track suit pockets and head outside. For some reason he felt as if this was straight out of a horror movie or something, but he was a ninja. Not a movie actor. Taking a small stop outside of the mission request building he would see two people outside and smiles to them," Yo! I take it you two are the ones taking this mission as well?," looking toward the two of them he would wait for a response.

Fu would wait patiently until a blue haired boy would enter the mission headquarters and exit. He would then proceed by addressing the girl,

"Yo! I take it you two are the ones taking this mission as well?"

Fu would smile. “I’m Fu! We’ll be working together today. Let’s try and get this over with so we can get paid.” Before long Tanjiro would arrive too. “Oh, Hey Tanjiro!”

Now that Tanjiro had arrived, that made 3 Genin present and the fourth missing. Instead of continuing to wait around for him, Fu would suggest that the group get started since there was already an ample amount of Genin readily available for the mission.

“I’m going to wait until dark near the grave entrance and stalk them as they go in. You’re free to join me if you want, but I think that’s the best and easiest plan for right now.” Now that Fu had established her plan, she would proceed to head towards the graveyard. The sun was beginning to set, and it was only a matter of time before it was dark. Hopefully the grave thieves wouldn’t make Fu and others wait too much longer.

Once Fu had arrived at the graveyard, she would scope out a hiding place that was inside the graveyard. She would need to position herself in a spot that would allow for her to spot people as they entered, but not in plain sight. She would find a tree that was about 20 m away from the entrance climb into it to wait. Whether the other joined her was up to them. Now positioned in the tree, Fu would wait patiently, like a predator waiting for its pray.

Fu would wait, wait, and wait some more. A few hours went by and the sun had finally sat, and the moon was at its highest peak in the sky. Luckily for the group, it was a full moon tonight which provided better visibility that on most other nights where they were. Just when Fu was beginning to lose hope, she heard noises in the distance. It was easy to here such noises in the stillness of the night, especially for someone who was always hunting. A group of four would enter the graveyard, each wearing a mask and carrying an empty sack over their shoulder. Fu wondered what they hoped to gain from robbing graves. Did people really get buried with their valuables? Either way, Fu wouldn’t act right away. Instead, she would allow them to pass her and enter the graveyard. Fu hoped that her counter parts would allow so to- for if they were going to capture them, they would need to catch them ‘red handed’.

It didn’t take the robbers long to do what they did best. Fu watched as they split into two groups, one wandering off and the other group pulling out spades and begin getting to work on their first grave of the night. Too bad for them it would be their last. Fu would jump down from the tree that she had been waiting in. Reaching into her ninja weapon pouch, she would produce a singular smoke bomb. Throwing the smoke bomb at the grave where the two were digging, it would explode, engulfing the unsuspecting robbers in a cloud of thick smoke. Next, fu would run into the cloud of smoke and assault the two robbers, leaving them knocked out in the ditch. Once the smoke had cleared, there would be two unconscious robbers with their arms and legs tied. Fu was satisfied and felt that she had completed what she felt was her part of the mission. With her portion of the mission completed, Fu would report to the mission station to inform them of their findings and wait for the rest of her team to arrive.

Vergil was taking the time to process everything that he had gathered via the many clues that had been ignorantly left by the thieves as the sun began to finally slowly set. During his investigation he would notice a young female teen ninja arrive and make her way up a tree as he said nothing to her while she did so. From what he could tell of all the evidence that was littered around the field the robbers usually attacked the grave site panzer style, a group in the front and a group around the back of the grave site, as he looked up the tree Fu had gone in to think she was going to cover the front entrance. This meant that the smart thing for him to do would be to cover the back in case his theory was correct. More than likely if she needed it the two others who were supposed to join would give her a hand.

As the sun set more and the night started to fall upon the land Vergil read a book that he kept in his pocket while waiting for something to happen. He would become alerted by the sound of footsteps from afar the front entrance as he looked over and saw a group of cloaked individuals with digging tools in their hands. He would coolly put his book back into his bottom pocket while taking out three shuriken with something long tied to them that shined in the moonlight and he hid from their line of vision. He would see two of the robbers break off from the group and go around the site as he took the opportunity of their obliviousness and the surrounding trees to take his advantage. His eyes would glow crimson as he tossed the three shuriken in the thieves direction, the speed of his throw causing the shuriken to zoom past the thieves in a blur before they even realized what was happening, as they would spin around the trunk of a tree that they were both near. With a tug of the wire he would quickly sandwich the thieves into the trunk, trapping them, just as he heard the sound of a smoke bomb erupting back in the grave site. Looking back to see Fu running into the smoke bomb he figured that it was hers and that it was her way of taking care of the thieves as he left it to her and walked over to collect his targets.

Keeping the wire pulled so that they couldn't get away from the tree he would use his knowledge of pressure points to poke certain places within their bodies as they fell limp against the wire unconscious. All in all a mission success, the thought pleasing Vergil, as he would keep the thieves tied while watching what was going on in the grave site. If anything out of the ordinary happened or went awry he would hop in to help whoever needed it. If not he would untie his captives, pick them up with each arm, and carry them back to the leaf.

The final people for the mission had finally came to the forefront and introduced themselves, and Byakura simply turned to each of them that and spoke," Nice to meet you Fu, I am Bykaura. I kind of agree with you actually. The sooner we get this done, the sooner we can get paid...and sleep!," thinking of nothing more after an exhausting day he wanted nothing more than money and sleep. As the last person happened to stumble into the fold, the group was then ready to leave and deployed out. A few of them knew each other already which meant that the team cohesion would be at least more optimal than a group of people that didn't know anyone at all. With that being said however, Byakura only knew one of them from a handful of missions and didn't have any real "knowledge" about them other than the fact that they were sort of lazy.

As the group made their way to the graveyard he had begun to prepare his mental state for anything that would go wrong, and if there was combat he was more than ready to defend himself if necessary. Most of the missions he had done beforehand didn't have much in the way of combat, but when it came to thieves anything was on the table. As they slowly came into view of the area of the mission, Byakura slowly made his way into the shadows of the graveyard keeping himself hidden so that when the perpetrators finally showed their faces he would be ready. They waited for some time and the male decided to retire to the shadow of a nearby tree, sitting within it and looking down with his now elevated position. Getting down would not be an issue, but them seeing him could always ruin that plan.

Without a hitch the group of grave robbers began to show themselves and split into two small groups. Apparently some of the other genin decided to go after one group, so Bykura slowly retreated from the shadow of the tree to follow them. As he stalked them silently he came to the back of one, taking a hand to their neck to knock them into unconsciousness and slid behind the other before a sound could be made. Putting his index finger against the skull of the male he would smile neatly," Don't move and maybe I will let you off easily. If you resist I will be forced to put you down. Will you comply?," his voice came off as sweet, but held such a maliciousness that could be felt with the easiest of touches. His prey reluctantly gave in and allowed the shinobi to tie him up. What would become of the others were now not his concern, but he did throw the other two with the ones that were already tied up.

Tanjiro would follow the group of genin to the graveyard. It was getting dark and it seemed like the other shinobi were all making their own plans for capturing the grave robbers. There did seem to be someone there investigating before their small group made to the graveyard. He seemed to be trying to find tracks or see disturbances throughout the graveyard. Was he trying to establish the robbers routine? It seemed like a clever idea if he could establish the robbers plans it would make it much easier to capture them. 

Tanjiro saw Fu climb a tree at the front of the grave yard to act as her hiding spot. That seemed like what the plan was. Hide here and try to capture the robbers in the act. The other shinobi who was investigating earlier seemed to move to the back of the graveyard to cover more ground. The third blue haired shinobi would just fade into the shadows were Tanjiro could not pinpoint were he was. 

“I guess I will hide as well.” Tanjiro would think to himself. So looking around Tanjiro would find a nice spot in the middle of the graveyard to hide out. Waiting out was boring as all hell but eventually the robbers would make their way into the graveyard. None of the other genin would act just yet and let the robbers start their shady business. Tanjiro would count four grave robbers. The small group would split into two groups two to the front, two to the back. Tanjiro would prepare to act but before he could choose who to capture Fu would capture two of them. The blue haired genin would capture another one while the genin in a trench coat would capture the last one. This gave Tanjiro no one to capture. So with the mission done Tanjiro would let the others walk their prizes to the mission office and Tanjiro would take his money and go home to sleep.
