Edge's Glimmer

The training grounds were a good place to be in for regular practice, but sometimes, a jutsu would require solitude. Perhaps the same could be said of someone who needs to practice the repeated throwing of kunai, or multiple shuriken; however, in this specific case, it would be Kaito’s first incursion into the world of practicing ninjutsu, and as such he felt particularly self-conscious of it. The technique he was attempting today would be a rather simple technique to any ninja above his rank, but one that would give him a vast advantage if he was able to learn it early. “Always trying to show off I’m more than meets the eye…” He still hadn’t gotten to reflect on his need to compensate for his low rank at such an advanced age. “Not like others would know I spent my best years running a restaurant. Not when I have nothing to show for it.”
Kaito looked at the clouded sky. “Perfect day for practice.” He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, feeling the air flowing into his lungs as his diaphragm dropped and urged the lungs to expand. As he did so, he tried to focus his awareness on the chakra circling his body. It was a wave of pure energy -- no, not a wave, but a body of energy akin to a lake, where it would wave on the shore of his body softly, just like a powerful heartbeat in a quiet night.
Unlike a heartbeat, or a lake, a body’s chakra can be commanded, and Kaito focused slowly on feeling his chakra and commandeering it through his being, into his muscles, each and every fiber being vitalized by this power. The surge of power was incredible, but he felt he might not be able to sustain it for long; he had to employ the technique, and quickly. “Baby steps.” He stepped forward aggressively, trying to jump a few meters in front of him, and when he did the world blurred completely, his vision tunneling as he dashed through the empty field, almost making him miss that in that small step he nearly dashed through the bushes and trees. As he tried to regain his footing, his feet slipped and he dragged through the floor, finally smashing into a bush and nearly planting his face into a tree.
As he bemoaned in pain the accident, he tried to feel for his bones and joints; nothing broken, at least that. It still hurt like hell. He dusted himself off, and began the process of limping to his beginning position. He could now see why this technique was not advised for battle. If someone as inexperienced as himself was able to perform the technique and near kill himself in such a low stakes situation, he couldn’t begin to know what would happen in actual life or death situation. Escape and convenience seemed to be the only situations for one to use this technique.
He took out a canteen and let half a mouthful into his mouth, before chewing on it. People tended to drink more water than needed when they’re thirsty, but if one hydrates the gums thoroughly the feeling of thirst diminishes and one can save precious water for a later time. In this time, he mentally perused his body, trying to get a feeling of how his muscles felt. Even though he had been well rested when he came up to the mountain, his muscles now ached something fierce, as though he had been walking for the past could of hours without a break. Such was the cost of overexerting oneself. He now understood why this was something taught to chunnin, who would be more experienced in controlling their chakras and muscles, and whose training likely left me more able to these exertions of power. "Still, I need to become more powerful, faster, stronger, as quickly as possible. If another one of these snot nosed chunnin looks down on me again…" Well, nothing would happen, really. Not much he could do about it other than throw a tantrum, and he'd rather get a beating.
Once again, the ninja found a place to begin the practice. This time, instead of being in the middle of the clearing, he found himself a nice place at the periphery of the clearing, with as much space in a straight line as he thought he had. "Right. Let's do this. Legs, don't fail me now."
He closed his eyes, and with palms stretched by the side of his body, he moved them inwards and up, slowly accompanying his breathing motion, and as he felt his diaphragm lower once again and draw oxygen into his lungs, he focused on his chakra. The energy buzzed within him, and he felt it seep into the muscles, vitalizing him greatly. "Focus." He opened his eyes, the path ahead clear, and he stepped forward forcefully, trying to reach the opposite periphery of the clearing in a singular step. His vision blurred and tunneled once more, and the motion violently pulled at his clothes, the friction itself warming him up, but in a gust of wind and sudden stopping, he carefully halted just before the bushes, the force of his motion carrying on without him and pushing gusts of wind around him that hurled leaves into whirls, shook the blades of grass and tested tree branches' and leaves' resolve to stick to the trunks they held onto.
Kaito held his position for a few seconds, positively surprised, but surprised nonetheless. The rush of power coursing through him felt akin to pure adrenaline, pumping in his blood and through his trembling muscles, weak from exertion, but pumped with the sheer power he could inject into them at will. He threw his head back in laughter, the feeling of relief washing over him. He wasn't a total loser after all; how could he be a loser if he was able to perform such superhuman feats? His eyes rolled into his skull, and he fell backwards, exhausted, and fell into a deep sleep into the next morning.
