Mission 8:

The Terumi youth had a troubled dream. Running through an expense of bleak, near colorless yellow roads of sand, with walls and cliffs near obsidian purple in color, the faces of people he knew and people he could not recall having seen ever contorted in horror at what chased them tirelessly. He tried to call out to them to warn them of the coming peril, but alas, he lacked a mouth to call out, instead he was able to produce only muffled moans that confused the people that needed to run before they realized what the youth ran from. The run was uphill, constantly going up streets that winded up the side of what must be a mountain, and yet the mountain, like whatever chased them, went on forever. The terror within the youth increased as whatever chased them grabbed and consumed whoever was not fast enough to react to it’s grasping horror. A youth his own age with long dark hair tried to greet him, he must’ve seen her before, for she was the love of his life, he was sure, however even her failed to realize the danger they were in fast enough and was devoured. A loud clanking noise shook the young Terumi who woke up in his bed, covered in sweat, trembling, and as he looked through the bleak room and into the open door that showed the rest of the house, he realized he had gotten mail, which given the lack of light outside, meant a ninja dropped by to deliver a mission request to him. He lay in bed for a moment, trying to recall what he had dreamt of. As he tried to recall it, more and more details escaped him. He got up and went to wash his face, and as he stared into the mirror, he realized he only felt the weight of dread still lingering on his muscles, and a sensation of loss, but he couldn’t remember why. Dismissing the bad dream, he picked up the letter, browsing its contents before starting to get dressed.

Today’s mission was in line with another one of his missions, namely the mission to clean the street. He could already feel the intention of the mission, a lesson in appreciating a common space of all ninja and leaving the world as nice and kept as when you first found it. For a village known for its merciless ninja and propensity towards violence, Kirigakure no Sato really knew how to educate young people to become better people outside of the violence of the ninja system. "Likely a gift from Xyver, the Leviathan. All the tales speak of how he wanted to unite the ninja world in peace, in spite of the violence it was brought by with." It reminded Kazushi of a tale his Uncle used to tell him about the warrior in the garden and the gardener in the battlefield.

Kazushi didn't lose time when he arrived at the store; he brought the letter from the ninja office, and collected a dust cloth and broom. Housekeeping wasn't his specialty, and it showed: the lad behind the counter kept peering over his shoulder, pointing out places he missed, how his technique was flawed, running his finger on surfaces and analyzing how it looked afterwards, pursing his lips and gazing at the young Terumi in disappointment. Kazushi didn't mind it too much; he was a warrior in a garden, and this mission was just a means of learning some humility towards his peers, not a training in housekeeping. With the sun sinking low, he said goodbye to the lad behind the counter, who unenthusiastically said goodbye back. On his way home, he thought back to his uncle, and the Mizukage, both who he looked up to but never returned home from the incursions abroad. The nightmare was out of mind, for now.
