- MIssion:
- Mission Name: Guard Duty
Rank: C-rank
Type: Patrol
Character Requirements: Genin+
Mission Location: Any Village
Word Count Requirements: 2000
Challenges: N/A
Repeatable? Yes (May be repeated by the same person indefinitely)
NPC? N/A

Task: There is a constant need for shinobi to work as guards for the villages perimeter to ensure the safety of its people. Act as patrol scouts through the confines of the village. This is a common source of steady income for most shinobi, as unlike other missions it is always available and generally has a low chance of danger or fatality. Investigate and suspicious activity and, if possible, try to find a solution for it or make and file a report if there isn't a simple solution.
Not elsewhere will she move to anyway, Yuri looked up at the volcanoes in front of her. Standing right after the docking area where the ships come in for whatever reason, last few periods got her thinking about her development unison to her village. Gaining strength day by day, there would come a time where it will be time for her to exercise her's. Except for volcanoes and whatnot to be hidden like a hidden village, Yuri doesn't see lots of towering constructs as suggested by the general needs of the new residents, attracted by the untold wealth for being in activity here would brought; Where are the gates that guard? Where activity on the docks never stops, having a gate would seriously impend businesses here given the way it is. Thinking of which, now she knew what the gates meant.
She looked at the docks spanning out of her vision; Defenseless. She asked her what good would it do to have beach beside the gates and think about the current gate that the village could have instead; It would be located further inside and at least with the island's special defenses in aid. For now, she acts as the gate to external threats and maybe she will meet the others who acts with the same purpose as intended, it's a long walk ahead.

Another day, another dollar, another dumpling. Ukam Akimichi, jounin of Kazagakure, would be strolling around the docks. Seeing as he was on official guard duty, he had adorned actual ninja attire for one of the few times. Standing at just over 6 feet, and weighing in at more than 300 pounds, Ukam took up most of the road, and anyone walking by new it. He’d often been picked for guard duty, and perhaps this was the reason why. One of the best deterrents is simply knowing that guards walk among them. Ukam didn’t hide in the shadows, he was seen......and known.......and that was just fine by him.
He wore a jounin rank flak jacket over bare skin. The jacket hopelessly open never to be closed given the man’s size. Within it, the pockets and the pouches on his side he wore his various ninja tools. His legs covered by a robe that had been folded down to leave his chest bare. His feet clicked and clacked with each step as his wooden Sandals hit the wood of the docks. Throwing back a dumpling and swallowing in one bite he’d start to whistle. He’d wave and shout out to the various dock workers who for the most part would do the same. He’d known many of these men for years, and worked with more than half of them on the sea or at least in the shipyard.
Today though wasn’t a day of labor like his last couple missions, instead it was a day of simple patrolling. In truth it was an easy job, one that provided a simple payout, but again it was a simple job after all. Today his partner was a ninja by the name of Yuri, and he truthfully couldn’t remember the last name. He’d seen it when he’d accepted the mission. Zaled has made sure to provide work for many of the shinobi, as well as trying to get the economy of the village moving in the right direction. Not much time had passed, but it seemed to be heading in the right direction.
He’d continue his walk until he found a female ninja whose eyes showed she was looking closer at the surroundings than a normal person ought to have purpose to do. “You wouldn’t happen to be Yuri would ya?” Ukam would bellow waving at the girl from a distance away. He’d pick up at a run at a faster rate than one would guess given his size until he was closer to her. “Been lookin all over. Still gettin the hang of finding my partners on missions don’t cha know? Anyway, you Yuri?” He’d ask again hoping he hadn’t embarrassed himself.
If she identified herself he’d stick out a ham sized hand and shake hers. A firm grip, and a jovial smile greeting her. “Names Ukam, guess we are keeping the people safe today!” He’d bellow with a laugh spreading out his arms to gesture at the surrounding area and the people milling about.

A long walk it would take for her to brainstorm about the idea but a short walk would bring her the inspiration that she felt might that might be so much desired. The tall lamp stood against the sun, once upon a time it acted as a finish line for her patrol; Now it would act as the block on her vision to the sun that gave her a concept of what the area after the the blocks of shop would eventually become. To endure, tourist spots have to be spared, not that they were of much impact anyway but were of strategic importance nonetheless. A drop on the intruders would be desirable when time comes using them, a trigger would be needed, added by a detonator. She walked down the lane of where the docks would left her on the trail would replace by mountains; Mountains housing dead volcanoes where she would see fewer and fewer workers.
Then, tourist took over the crowd. Though it would number fewer than workers of all types combined. Yuri looked to her left where the beach would be named after the pirates, she wondered why; Was it due to the pirates of the past? Nobody knew. Somewhat, the thoughts ends when she could feel another one, One that seems ready to strike at a moment's notice. He looked like he was waving at her and asked if she was Yuri and that was well... not the wisest thing to ask. No. Was it someone you knew? Name's Red. Yuri replied. Knowing that the man in front of her would likely be a ninja of sorts named Ukam, she thought about it; He is a new addition, not one of the founding as well. Seems that recently new blood kept coming, wondering when will the core emerge? She thought about it.
Guess we are the only assigned? Or were you supposed to be alone? Yuri ask Ukam about his question on his mission assignment.

“Nope not alone. Still working on best way to do these missions. Been a long time since I was hanging around here.” Ukam would say. He’d thought he’d read the name correctly, however the person introduced themselves as red, and appeared to be patrolling same as he. Shrugging he’d let it go and chalk it up to his own misunderstanding. He didn’t have much knowledge of the others that called this place home. His people lived on the outskirts, the mines, and on the docks....rarely stepping foot into the actual village proper.
“Took the job to patrol. Gives Me a chance to get familiar with how much this place has changed since I was living her myself.” He’d explain. He’d take a look at the mission details, and then the route that he was meant to be patrolling for this particular time. The docks and the eastern side of the village was what was listed. Rolling the scroll up he’d slide it into a pocket, and pull out some chips and a soda from pockets in his flak jacket. He’d of course offer Red some to keep their energy high for the mission, or at least that’s what he told himself.
“If yer patrolling too, let’s see what there is to see......by the sea.” Ukam would say, and let out a laugh at his own joke. Something that he did often. He’d start to walk, and would assume Red would follow him. Assuming she did he would idly chit chat about what he’d seen so far, and would even ask her where they actually were supposed to submit their final reports. He’d completed a couple missions, but the turn in had always been with supplies....guard duty actually required a written report, something he was not looking to much forward too.
“So Red.....tell me about yourself. Any good war stories to tell?” He’d ask hed. His face had a genuine look, which had thrown some shinobi for a loop. It wasn’t often one met a soul like Ukam Akimichi in this world of backstabbing and survival. He didn’t ask to gain information, but rather because they were comrades. He wanted to know, because he cared about those around him, even in a place like this. He’d listen to whatever she had to tell him as they moved about the dock and the village patrolling.
During their walk, Ukam would keep a watchful eye out. Though his demeanor often seemed relaxed, he was still trained and observant. Should there Be anything that needed handed he would be ready. Though, to his knowledge there were no immoderate threats to the volcano at this time, and no reason to suspect trouble. In fact, this brought to his mind of many of the other villages even knew they existed anymore. A remote island with little claim to the world, and even less influence. At least, until Zaled had his way he supposed. That man seemed to have plans, Ukam however was not one for plans. So he’d allow that to the people above his pay grade.

She would have to deal with new addition anyways, and more than she ever would given the fact that she had not seen the pioneers often. This new shinobi that she just met today by the name of Ukam had a bigger build than her, gives her the thought that he might be better used to utilized what she had in her plans. But time is not on her side, she didn't start out to be jovial sort and she wouldn't swing to the opposite soon anyway; There would be less to see on our way As Yuri walked by the tourist beach and forward. Up past the beach, she gets closer to where she got washed up at first and that would be the past. High up at the right, the now office for Zaled would show itself to those who are aware. Yuri looked forward and thought it would only be a matter of time before her current land would be incur the wrath externally. The need to progress has to be felt constantly. There would be more to see. For now, the the docks and the beach are the few areas of interest, for those that comes in peace. The path forward for her would eventually reach the training pit and so would for Ukam if he were to follow through. I came here for a new life. Yuri replied in exchange and she would keep her focus on any coming mischief for the remainder of the mission

Walking Along the beaches and piers of the docks, Ukam was able to register the fact that His companion was of a different temperament than that of himself. He’d listen to the few words she spoke, and contemplated them briefly. Specifically the note of wanting to start a new life. It was an idea that he was familiar with, and could even respect. Briefly his mind flashed to the time when he had first left the village so many years ago. Not banished, but sent to perform other duties while the darkness gripped the place. It was a darker time, and while he was never able to truly leave the place behind, the idea of a fresh start was always comforting. “We have that in common suppose.” He would say still happily despite the mood. “I’m back for exactly the same thing, do my part fer the place doncha know!”
The rest of their patrol would be fairly easy as they continued through. Nothing crazy occurring, and for the most part folks just going about their business. Guard duty was a simple exercise at this point, and if anything it just gave him more opportunity to familiarize himself with he village. It looked so different than it once had. It had not been a “happy” place in some time, and as the leaders continued their reign it would only have gotten worse. He had heard rumors that at a certain point no one remained, and mere husks of humans shambles about. It wasn’t something he enjoyed thinking about, but it was a reality.
His own parents had refused to leave the village when the time had come. Some loyalty that Ukam could understand, but hardly rationalize. He had looked for them when he first got back, but had found no sign of them. Some had come out of the zombie haze, but many more had simply died and wasted away. He feared it would be the later for his folks, a pang but one that he had come to terms with some time ago. People rarely grew old in volcano territory something that everyone understood well back in those days.
Now however, it was at total contrast. As the evil moved away, the good moves in. All those who had run or been displaced, they began to return, to clean and build. The island had always had an abundant amount of natural resources, and that was what the people knew, and that is where they started. It was likely Zaled had much to do with this. A leader could move a group forward a thousand steps, while the absence of one can cause a thousand more backwards.
Still all that was big thinking, and while Ukam was big, he didn’t like to big think to often. It simply was not as interesting as the here and now, and the simple joys. The joys of being a soldier and taking directives. Still, even now as he looked out he felt his mind wander back and forth.
Before he realized it the mission was over. Nothing exciting happened, and they were at the training pits. The end of their patrol line. With a quick good bye, he made his way back to the missions office and wrote out his report. He mostly got head shakes as they tried to decipher his writing, but he didn’t notice. Taking a stroll to the local smithery he had some things to check up on. It was time he reclaimed one bit of family, even if it wasn’t the one he longed for.
