Re: A Solid Introduction: The Drug Trade [I/O, Guren]

"Working on a weekend, like usual..." Guren thought to himself while surveying small crowds filled with people passing by, seeking to both enter and exit the Land of Wind. Some would likely be heading towards other countries, in search of whatever brought meaning to then. Others were looking to enter the Land of Wind, in hopes of finding a diamond within a desert. But Guren was really just scouting out people, people watching if you will. Among those travelers were all kinds of people. Those that were happy, sad, angry, poor, and most importantly, rich. It was simple really. Guren's goal was to acquire ryo. Not for the purpose of showing it off or spending it on luxurious trinkets, but instead for something far more grand. Something that would really fulfill his craving of knowledge and continuous learning. A laboratory. Originally this goal started off small as a library, as Guren's upbringing revolved deeply around reading. Science, history, jutsu, theory, all of it. It embedded a hunger of learning, almost as if after reading one book it was already time to dive into the next. But it wasn't the books that Guren was interested in. No, it was what the books contained. All of the information. How did the authors come up with the information? Had to be from experience and experiments. And that's where the seed was planted. Guren didn't have the goal of writing books, as this would be focused around teaching others. But he wanted to teach himself, and to get that knowledge he would need to seek out experience and experiments.
But what were the real subjects of interests? Life, death, humans, summoning races, chakra, and all in all the shinobi world. If he could a sliver of knowledge at a time, that would take him one step closer to understanding what the world was. Why his parents were dead, why his clan was eliminated, why he was alone. Maybe it would even allow him some type of guidance to going about changing all of those things. And thus brought him to the borders of the Land of Wind, staking out civilians who appeared a little too wealthy for their own good. Until finally someone caught his eye.
Pompous and arrogant in her walk as she darted her way through people. She was dressed in flashy clothes, sparkling jewelry, and held her head high as if she was better than the rest. There was no doubt that was likely richer than most. So Guren would start his surveillance. Where she went he went, all while maintaining his distance. As he followed her, he imagined that this could be a major payday for him. If it were, it would go straight into his savings. But as he followed, he began to feel a twisted sensation in his stomach. Was pickpocketing or robbing this woman truly something he would go through with? Was the money worth it? Part of him believed it absolutely was. If she were rich and flashy, wouldn’t that mean that she had money that could replace whatever she lost? But the other half of him wondered if stealing from others was the best way to further his own goals. Although his philosophy was general, “the end justifies the means”, in this case it seemed a bit different. Maybe stealing, specifically from a woman, was where his moral compass drew the line.
During the time that Guren was self-reflecting, he had subconsciously followed this woman all the way to the entrance of what seemed to be a club. As she exchanged greetings and hugs with some of her friends, they laughed a little then opened the door to enter. In that brief moment of the front door swinging open and closed, a wave of pulsating music radiated through the air and the scent of twerk wind, sake, and sweat escaped. Guren could smell it from a couple meters of the club entrance. He furrowed his nostrils and shook the short lived scent off. “Jeez. Who would have guessed that she would be going here? Maybe I should have robbed her…” he thought to himself. But at this point it was too late. However that didn’t mean that it was too late to secure an easy payday. The club naturally attracted people with money, so in reality that woman had done him a huge service leading him to a jackpot. All he would have to do was wait.
But what seemed like a couple minutes to pass the time the woman and her friends entered the club, audible screams and commotion could be heard coming from the club. It sounded like an intense fight occurring, which seemed a bit too rowdy to be typical of the club. But you know what? None of that was Guren’s business, all he was concerned about was making his ryo. Still, the thoughts of what could have been going on inside had peaked his interest. These screams were short lived as they had quickly developed into sounds of cheer and glee. Must have been a short and uneventful fight. Yet what came next was chanting, “Viva La Wan! Viva La Wan!” Whatever it meant, it sounded like there was plenty of excitement towards someone named Wan. Who was this man? Was he involved in the fight? Did he break it up? Or was he just the life of the party? Guren had already allowed his curiosity to escape him once today, he wasn’t about to do the same. So he would walk towards the club just to take a peek inside and see what was going on. However someone had beat him to the door. A man would walk out of the club, reeking of smoke. While the door swung open, the chants for Wan had roared with laughter and amusement. This guy was probably Wan.
So Guren would just approach the man directly before he walked off and see what had been going on in the club. “Hey, what was going on in there? Sounded crazy…”

Re: A Solid Introduction: The Drug Trade [I/O, Guren]

From the look upon this "Wan's" face, it was clear that Guren had unintentionally caught him off guard. Perhaps it was his straightforwardness or the timing, but in either case it didn't seem worth overthinking. But upon looking over Wan, Guren was intrigued. This guy seemed to carry himself with a certain confidence, not subtle at all but seemingly well deserving. At least all of the people chanting his name would agree that he was. Guren respected that. Truthfully a confident ninja is a capable one, as it proved one's mental fortitude. And this confidence could be noted in just about every aspect of Wan. The way he walked and carried himself had a certain sway to him. Even the fact that he was willing to engage in a conversation with someone he didn't know and owed nothing to. He couldn't be half bad. Plus, already he seemed to be somewhat like Guren, well at least in physical stature. They toted comparable figures, Guren being a bit taller and more built than Wan, but this was likely because he could have been slightly older. Guren would confirm this after discerning Wan's lack of facial hair, attributing it to his younger age. Or he could just be incapable of growing a beard.
While Wan spoke, Guren tried to analyze his words. It was true, Guren was late to the party. However he hadn't planned on attending anything of that nature. Really his plan was to exploit those attending the party, so in that case Guren figured he was right on time. But Guren's assessment of Wan was correct. Based on his response, it would sound as if he had been accountable for whatever it was that happened inside the club, as his voice carried a certain pride to it. Wan's body language would confirm this as he exchanged a brief glance with some club goers as they carried out injured and lifeless bodies from the club. Must have been more than just a minor scuffle.
"Hmm."
Guren would let out while visually observing the people leaving the club. They appeared soaked. Not just with their own blood, but with water as well. If Wan was responsible for these injuries, then it was likely he was also a water style user. Yet again, something the two had in common. Interestingly enough it wasn't just one or two men being carried out. Guren counted at least five, all of which appeared dead. So Wan fought to kill then? Maybe that was something that set the two apart. It wasn't that Guren lacked the natural intensity to kill, it was just that the necessity of murder never seemed to present itself. However the opportunity had recently unveiled two times in his life: once while robbing a pompous man at a bar, and once during his journey from the Land of Lightning to the Land of Wind. It was probably for the best that he didn't kill in either situation.
Shortly after, Wan had removed some sort of package from his backpack which contained a white substance. He boasted it, claiming of this mysterious power it had seeming to distinguish those who had it against those who longed for it. Guren would figure that it had to be something that attributed to a portion of Wan's confidence. Perhaps it brought him joy, money, or even power. However it seemed to bring those who rivaled him certain death. Surely a deadly substance, yet something that didn't entirely stimulate Guren's interest. Whatever it was though, it was clear that it was the cause of the violence that took place in the club.
"So, something so precious can just be found in a backpack huh?" Guren would ask. It did seem strange that something that had such value to it would be waved around in the air as if it were nothing. Normally that type of flaunting would warrant a robbery, at least that's how Guren would perceive it. And so this just further affirmed the confidence of the water user.
There was no response to Guren's question. Instead nature answered with a comforting drizzle that began to pick up into a constant rain. It soothed Guren, and seemed to do the same with Wan as it left him smiling. He would then go on to make a comment about Guren's appearance and his distinct foreign appearance. While he was correct, Guren didn't really care that he stood out from regular party goers or citizens of Wind Country. He really only cared with looking presentable. This was more so that he would be taken seriously, yet could still blend in with most crowds. However clearly there were times where his attire didn't fit in.
"You're right. I'm not from here. Guess I came here in search of something..."
He would pause briefly to reflect on the fact that he was trying to acquire money by searching through the pockets of the rich. However he also thought how true that statement was for his entire purpose of being in Wind Country. As Wan would begin walking away and towards some shelter from the rain, Guren would follow.
"I go by G. I'm guessing you're Wan....So you must be the seller of that white powder then? What is it you hope to obtain with your profits?"
It was a rather direct question from someone who didn't bother to provide his full name. But if Wan was willing enough to show his product, then he had to be willing to share his purpose right? Guren would respect if he didn't, however he wanted to see to what level of depth Wan was willing to share. Perhaps the two were on the path to some type of friendship.

Guren sat down as Wan had courteously pulled out a chair for him. As simple as it seemed, it was a nice gesture as Guren hadn’t taken the time to get off of his feet in a while. He was constantly on the go. Wan seemed to be letting himself get comfortable, removing his garment. Guren would not do the same. He was actually pretty relaxed although the moisture from the rain had dampened his clothes. Upon asking Wan about his product, initially it appeared as if he had caught the man off guard with his questions, and that would be fair. But it was just a part of his nature to be direct. I guess you could say it was because of his natural inclination for curiosity. However Wan dismissed any concern that he might have with a slight laugh and an adjustment of his body language. He folded one leg over the other and leaned toward Guren. Not only was this a sign of calmness, but also interest. Normally when a person would lean forward during conversation, it is because their interest was peaking. Maybe that concept was true for Wan, and maybe Guren’s straightforwardness puzzled Wan. Guren exchanged this body language with his own, shifting to his right while placing his elbow on the arm bar and resting his head on his right thumb. His index finger was bent, pressed against the side of his jawline.
So, his name was confirmed to be Wan. And instead of being concerned with turning a profit, it appeared as if his intention was to give away the substance. Charity? Maybe not. But Wan would seem generous: both with his product and the level of depth in the information he was willing to share. Perhaps that level of generosity was the reason that there were so many people cheering Wan’s name. However, that would be a usual chain of events. Guren thought for an instance, attempting to piece together the events that could have occurred within the club. If he had to guess, Wan likely got into some physical altercation over that white product he had. After the fight, the partygoers inside were uneasy and scared. And in order to quell their concerns and get them back into the swing of the rave atmosphere, he handed a substantial amount of his product away. Interesting. It would seem like whatever the white substance was, it had the ability to incite violence yet also fuel excitement.
Breaking his train of thought, Wan had seem to be stumped. Like he really had to take some time to think about how he would respond regarding what he sought after. And that was a fair point. Many people looked for power, some adventure, and others just what answers. It would be curious as to what each men would classify their ambitions as. Yet Wan’s response was uncharacteristic and lackluster based on his previous answers. He didn’t know. And that was also a fair point. Assessing one’s desires was not an easy thing to do, yet Guren had an idea of what fuel his actions.
Before the two to divulge deeper in their conversation, yet another commotion broke out. It would seem as if where Wan went, trouble followed. Again, Guren could infer that it had something to do with the white substance that Wan possessed. Within seconds the vibe would shift from wholesome to hostile, with 20 men and women bursting into the scene making demands in some foreign language to which Guren didn’t understand. He turned his head slightly to see the crowd, then calmly turned back to look at Wan. The sudden intensity of the situation didn’t really bother Guren though. This type of aggression was usually masking fear, I mean look at the sheer number of people that would brought to combat one man. Not to take away any credit from Wan, but logically they would send a smaller number of capable and confident warriors…not a large number of buffoons.
All in an instant, a man would be charging towards Guren as if he had wronged him somehow. Intriguing. As he got closer Guren would lean forward and down in his seat at the same time as Wan warmed him. He would swiftly roll forward towards Wan’s side of the table and in the process he’d kicked his chair back to stun the man’s movements. This was followed with Wan kicking the table towards the man as well. Guren stood simultaneously with Wan as the two stared down the group that approached them. Guren remained idle, as he was curious as to how Wan would respond. It would give him a minute to assess the instincts and capabilities of his new friend. And Wan would not fail to put on a display. The ground began to crack and shake, with roots seeming to penetrate through the ground. Guren’s eyes would widen slightly. Once the roots began to congregate and sprout through the ground it was undoubtedly certain that Wan was utilizing the wood release, meaning he was likely from the Senju clan. Although he had never met a Senju, he had heard of their tales while growing up. Wan seemed to be chocked full of surprises.
But this wasn’t his fight, Guren didn’t have any investment in this confrontation although he would help Wan if needed. But he doubt he needed any support. This didn’t seem like his first rodeo. Suddenly, one of the sprouting roots would wrap around Guren’s torso and lift him into the air. Seemed like Wan was trying to protect his new comrade. Little did he know, Guren was more of capable of dismantling this platoon of rag tag warriors himself. Yet, Guren figured it was so that Wan would be able to operate as he normally would without any distractions or worrying about his jutsu hurting a friend. And that was fine. As he was displaced from the combat without much of a goodbye, he kind of just shrugged it off. It was understandable, and considering the way the world worked it was more than likely he would run into Wan again. So amongst all the fighting, Guren would put his hood over his head, tuck his hands into his pockets and dismiss himself unnoticed. Everyone was too focused on the fight at hand to be concerned about Guren leaving. And besides, he was sure Wan would understand his sudden departure.
