Farewell, Rain Country
Sun Apr 19, 2020 1:37 pm
Circling overhead, ravenous descendants of the olden kings of the Earth, they waited.
Hiro looked up for a second, his face contorted in a grimace of displeasure, pursed lips widening at the corners of his mouth and dipping down as he glared at the flying scavengers. He fucking hated seagulls. As a sailor and as someone who enjoyed the welcoming ocean, the one thing he never learned how to appreciate was the maritime bird, always preying around ports and beaches for some fish or whatever you held in your hand. Even the pigeons of inner cities he was able to tolerate, but not fucking seagulls. He hated the fucking things.
He averted his eyes from the clear skies and looked around himself, once again resuming his initial quest for further freedom. After all, the tale of the Kraken of Rain Country kept creeping up in shady taverns and even authorities seemed to start throwing the name around. He liked it, revelled in the fear those who spoke it exuded, as though it were steam from a hot meal, or the mist that rolls between a valley to encase and shroud it in mystery and suspicion. But alas, authorities had tried to stop him for investigation, asking him to follow them to a patrol station where he painted the walls red with tentacles as a little display of the Kraken’s work, and now they might be hot on his tail. It had been fun, he admitted it, but now it was starting to get dangerous. All his maritime adventures had done very little for his ninja prowess, and made him momentarily into a drunken whoring murderer. He needed to get back into the swing of things.
That was why he found himself at the port of a coastal city, where he hoped he could find passage across the sea and into the new Kirigakure. Rumor had it that the Leviathan enclosed himself in his island, likely preparing for something big, after his great conquest across the land. Hiro would offer him his services, for money, of course. Nothing like being paid to be a murderer, rather than murdering and having to feel the rancid breath of the law on the back of your neck. Much as his unaccountably high ego would like to believe he was too strong to be stopped by the law, he understood very well that even what he perceived as small fry could spell big trouble for him. He was a psychopath, not an idiot.
After a long couple hours of searching, he finally came across a ship captain that would allow him passage across the sea by paying it with his services as a seasoned seaman. Hiro took to board, where he was let know that since they were still waiting for supplies to arrive, he had one or two hours free. Slipping a hand to the inner seams of the captain jacket he wore, he retrieved a book he had recently purchased, “A Study of Kekkai Genkai and Their Connection to DNA”, by author and medical specialist ninja Denkiteki. Hiro hoped to learn a lot from the legends of old, and hopefully, from the Leviathan. Perhaps he’d welcome the Kraken to his ranks.
