Call me Velvet [P][W / Wan]
Wed Jul 29, 2020 2:45 am
She had never been in such a bright building; but in all honesty, she was accustomed to artificial light and underground rooms. They were quieter and the sounds of a laboring, gnawing bone saw cutting through flesh, tendon and bone as blood sloshed about toward a drain were almost nonexistent unless someone came into the room. The brighter lights, having to constantly swivel about for the best view were so much more purifying than the sunlight itself. It was harsh, warm; sometimes too hot. Buildings above ground were almost always so much warmer than what she was used to. This whole village was different from what she was used to; it was quiet. The whole place was so quiet, she could hear a pin drop.
No one had stopped her from entering the Kage building; probably because it was late at night. As Velvetine opened her arms out and let her fingertips briskly drag along the walls while she walked through them, she tried to listen for something in them. Their buildings were holding their breath. They smelled of chemicals but not the ones she was used to.
The whiffs of bleach and ammonia were burned into her memory so much so that no matter where she turned or what she smelled, she could always smell a bit of it. Memories of when her mother was healthier and would sit in the room with her father while he worked, holding Velvetine in her lap. Her mother hummed a wordless tune that her father hummed as well while he separated legs from their knee sockets and carefully bagged the good, still usable knee caps for selling. She always envied how they were in tandem. Her father had never kept from her the fact that the partnership of her parents was originally meant to be nothing farther than symbiotic; but it had blossomed into more. Velvetine wondered oftentimes if she, too, would find a symbiotic partner and bring forth the next generation of Butchers? Then it dawned on her as she turned a corner in these unfamiliar hallways.
She couldn’t be a child-bearer. She was a Shepard. She would need to find someone to bear the children… but then she would need to find a way out ,herself, outwardly reproduce. She could claim hearts, perhaps she could claim reproductive organs too? She pulled her hands from the walls and produced a notebook and small pencil from a pocket in her cloak, opening to a pay and wrote it down.
She wrote down then scratched out the last part. It was irrelevant, since he could outwardly reproduce there was no need for experimentation or test running.
Then she stopped before the door she was only partially looking for; the one to the Hokage’s office. What was his name again? Wan? Yes, that's what it was… Wan Senju. She opened the door and she found the room empty. There was a cherry oak desk before a red, high-backed chair, the desk surface covered in a pile of papers in a chaotically organized fashion, all in the forefront of a large window that overlooked the village behind the chair and desk. To the left was a navy couch; despite the unorthodox organization, it was clean. There was no Wan; but she felt him coming. No matter. She went to the desk and ran her fingers against the wood before sitting down in the chair, crossing one striped pant leg over the other, her heeled sandals clicking impatiently as she made herself at home.
She needed affirmation from him of their relationship. She needed confirmation that she was indeed as high ranking as he insinuated she would be. And she needed the livers she was promised.

She hadn’t been waiting long, honestly, but she had been waiting long enough to get bored and toy with the idea of being kage. She even swiveled in the chair before she sensed wan coming and righted herself then she toyed with the idea of testing boundaries. Velvetine propped her heel-sandaled feet on the desk and leaned back, smirking as he came in. He wasn’t entirely physically attractive to Velvetine, perhaps to some but not to her, so it wasn’t a morsel coming into her pretend space. As if she could ever be a Kage. That life was too public, too open, too visible and forward. She couldn't be less interested. How ever would she be able to properly tend to the population control she needed to do if they knew who she was? He asked why she couldn’t have taken a seat on the couch. Then he ordered her feet off the desk, quoting that privilege was for him alone. So keen to bark orders, but could he take them? She gracefully swung one ankle over the other as she dismounted the desk and the appointed chair and rose to her feet, moving around the backside of the desk to its farthest side, standing opposite but turned outward Wan.
“The only problem I have with this village is you, Wan.” She said matter-of-factly and moved a strand of hair behind her shoulder, and flicked her eyes from her hand to Wan’s own eyes, “You told me to work in that district; imagine my surprise when I went to the Okinaga District to assist in cleaning up this village of yours, only to be denied entry.” She said sharply, “Allow me to be direct and clear so there is no room for misunderstanding; my working with you is contingent upon me getting livers.” She turned towards him fully and slowly walked past the desk’s side, “What use to me is a man who can’t keep his word; What use is a man who can’t pay his employees to any worker?” She demanded verbally but kept her tone and face steady.
“What a shame to waste such a beneficial relationship on someone who has these types of traits.”

She listened as he talked but kept her distance- the only thing peaking her interest were the bodies he produced from scrolls. She hadn’t seen them from scrolls before but she knew from the way they looked that they were no longer living. Corpses.
He wanted to know about her past. Where she was from. What was she doing?
She traveled back to her home mentally, to the warm, hazy summer days of cicadas, sweat and an aching hunger for the refreshing sweetness of ice cream and ice-cold drinks. The weight of her purchases for her father’s office were nothing compared to the weight and happiness she felt of walking from the sweltering heat into the cool of her family home, the sound of her sisters happily playing upstairs, the soft clinking of her mother’s heels on the floor while she walked about the kitchen and put dishes away. The heaviness of her father’s armored door leading to his workspace that was set twenty degrees colder than the rest of the home and the satisfying clang of it settling back into place when she pulled it behind her. The look of smug pride on her father’s dark features as he rose from a table where he was eating a bowl of ice cream, how his calloused hand took the bags from her softer ones and walked away with the products to put them in their homes while Velvetine looked over to her left. A light-haired woman was sliced open, chest pulled open and ribs removed, organs cooling in the room to be removed and transplanted. A shiver of thrill and anticipation raced down her spine as she heard the familiar snap of a latex glove’s, rolled, elastic hem against firm skin. The molasse voice of her father where her own voice hails from, filling the cold, slightly stuffy air. “Begin.”
“My life before Wind Country?” She asked and she mused, “It was nothing special…” Then her black threads began to pour out of her mouth, nervously at first then spilled out like oil from a ruptured tank and poured over the two corpses, “The DNA, the Kekkei Genkai; they are irrelevant… but the Livers are important. I don't know what is compatible for my mother, but she needs a liver to be healthy again. Sending any home to be seen if they are compatible? That is of utmost importance to me.” She looked Wan in the eyes, “Too much time has been invested to begin anew.”

Velvetine didn’t care for anything Wan had to say and while he talked, huffed about and looked at her, she could read the expressions but they meant nothing to her. He was young. One might say in his prime, even but truly, in shinobi terms? His days were numbered before she even came into his life. He even thought a display of his frustration was worth her time; laughable but she always did like the folly of the livestock. But one of the real reasons she didn’t care? Wan because he was yelling and shouting and doing all this display by looking at a chair behind his desk while she stood in front of it as she had been for what felt like a week or more. He continued to yell at this imaginary person, saying her name and saying things; but no one was in the seat he kept looking back at that he cared so much for. He had only recently stopped doing so and began to actually look at her, as if seeing her for the first time in her new position.
Livestock went blind too, huh? How interesting.
How terrible for the livestock but how good for her; once she left anyways. By the time Wan spat on the floor and slipped his hands out of what would have been his imaginary friend’s view if they were actually in that chair, she would already be in the hallway, passing by a woman who gave her a polite bow and a confused look as Velvetine carried on with the new burdens of information she had brought upon herself with talking to him, before taking them down the flight of stairs with her towards the exit. As she walked out of the building entirely with a dark smile on her face,
Livestock were plentiful and for one reaching the end of it’s cycle; it was only a matter of time until she found this particularly mouthy one again and collected his corpse too for her findings.
