Alexandria All Over Again...
Once again, he was in the books. He longed to learn more jutsu, more goals to better himself and to unlock the secrets to what he was and what was left behind. Zeo's time as a Star Shinobi was indeed a change to his normal life before that tragic night he lost his parents in River Country. So much happened in the matter of almost a year and a half. Since he had been rescued by the Hoshigakure shinobi and given refuge here, he was admitted to join as a shinobi. While there was great unrest between the religious side and the shinobi of the haven region. However, Zeo didn't see why and respected both. In fact his parents were big believers in shinto. The two were never strictly exclusive, especially when you dove into the deep history of shinobi. It was originally a religion of itself, about the connection of all things and how chakra connected them.
He never understood why that would ever cause problems. For now, he was doing what he did best. Researching. Reading. Studying. He was in the academy of the school, in one of the library rooms. A stack of books and scrolls were laid out of him as he rested, his head literally buried in the scrolls and books. He slowly roused, after having read a jutsu for four times over. He was researching several things... new suiton jutsu to learn, sealing techniques, genjutsu theory, and more important... a code to crack the scroll his mother handed him right before she was killed. Even his support of sleep, he clutched the scroll.
As he rosed up, he began to clean up the mess he made. He normally had been taking these to and from his small apartment, but now he had to keep these in the academy grounds. With a yawn, he began to clean up. As he studied, he noticed other students were still there. It wasn't unheard of for a Genin to return to the academy to pick up materials or meet with some of the instructors. Still, he did feel a bit odd returning, and seeing the newer recruits who were still undergoing their initial training to be considered SHinobi. Some kids were recruited as early as 6 , which seemed hard to imagine anyone so young to be admitted to be a soldier.
Once he had reorganized the books he had combed through and the ones left, he had a new scroll he was looking at. This one contained more about sword techniques, a side interest he was currently interested in. He had a sword-- a jian he liked, but he didn't have the right strength or aptitude for more advanced swordsmanship. Due to that, he was researching its history and kata forms used to wield a sword effectively in addition to ninjutsu.

Genevive had been so restless lately; the children were doing well in class. Very well. Almost too fucking well. Sumire couldn’t put a book about herbs down even if Geni took it from her and Shinichi couldn’t get enough medical books. He had gotten fussy lately and demanded better books, higher education ones. Normally she would bend but in the effort to not be a pushover, she denied getting anything outside of their school’s library, however, after she had put the both of them to bed and her husband had fallen asleep as well, she left the house for a walk. It would be just coincidence if she happened to go by the Ninja Academy. It would also be beneficial if she was able to talk a teacher into letting her borrow something or at least get a recommendation for her children’s gluttonous appetite for knowledge.
Who had they gotten it from? Probably Kenshin. No, most likely her children had inherited the fascination for information from the both of them, however only time would tell for sure which one of them would apply it accurately. Even now as they grew, she could tell their personalities pretty well but their abilities were just vague guesses; Sumire didn’t seem to mind being boisterous and attention-grabbing, while Shinichi would be more… political. No, that was the wrong term… tactical. She felt that given ten years, if that, if he needed to overtake a village, he would be smart. Sumire would probably siege the village. Shinichi? Geni felt in her heart and soul that he would take the colder, crueler approach by ensuring the inhabitants starved and passed the village to him voluntarily while he pretended to not be responsible for poisoning their water supplies and setting fire to their food stores. Sumire was too impatient; if the siege didn’t work, she would hail down until the village was destroyed rather than captured.
Quietly, Geni hoped that her going to the Ninja Academy and attempting to whisk away a book or two would keep them occupied for a little while longer before they went out into the shinobi world. Perhaps it wasn’t ready for them yet. She politely greeted one of the teachers as she entered the building, “Excuse me, can I have a moment of your time? I was wondering if I could borrow a book or two, for my children?” She said.

A sigh escaped Zeo as he finally met his fill of sitting still and studying. He had learned a lot and was about to leave. He felt gratified to know he had accomplished a bit-- but soon something made him pause. A strange 'chill' or 'shock' in the air that made him nervous. His chakra senses seem to be irritated by something. Whatever it was, it put him on edge, even though the library was as silent as ever.
For the briefest of moments, his eyesight change. From the empty room, locked off from the rest of the library-- to a black space of specks of stars and the lights of different energies. But it soon came -- the crimson flash of nova red that soon rushed out towards him.
"Oh crap--!!" Zeo shouted. Almost out of instinct, he grabbed the table and flipped it right over to land on its side. The moment it fell, he hit the ground and covered his head-- pressed against the table.
FWWWWOSSSHH!!! BAAAANG!!!
The fiery eruption and blast echoed so loud it hurt Zeo's ears, and the sudden increase in heat made him sweat. Something violent had exploded within the library, or outside-- he couldn't tell. The sudden burst of it all, made him feel like he was in a genjutsu, to relieve that danger all over again.
He rose up and looked to the now destroyed door. Flames. Flames everywhere. The Entire library was a wreck with parts of bookshelves and scrolls now ablaze. His eyes , which were one black and starry as the night, returned to their light blue color as he looked with horror to the sight of the burning building.
His fear of fire, still burned inside his brain like a nightmare, after his parents were killed by 'bandits' who burned his village. He would have stayed frozen, had he not heard the cries for help inside the library. Other students were there. With little time remaining, Zeo quickly grabbed his bag of shinobi supplies he had placed in that room and ran to rescue the students in the library still.

The question had made the teacher bring up moving their conversation inside the building rather than being outside, which Genevieve did not entirely mind. The conversation was short and bittersweet; if her children were students or not of the academy, they couldn't pull the books or scrolls from the library because that is where they needed to be. Technically speaking, Geni could come in and write stuff down for her children and take that note but nothing else; and knowing her children they wanted the physical thing. The teacher did, however, point out she was allowed to come and go from the library itself. Then something flickered against her chakra sensory and an explosion went off that rattled the building. The Teacher left her alone and went to help children that needed the attention immediately as Geni reached out with her chakra sensory and felt for a few more people. She ran towards one of the closer rooms, even as walls were on fire and dancing with flames, someone shot out of a room. A young boy with dark hair- “Excuse me!” She called desperately but it didn't seem to help. They weren't listening and she went after him still, following him to the library room. She could sense there were children there but she put a hand on the young man’s shoulder and stopped next to him on his right-hand side,
“Hello, if you are a shinobi of the village, let’s work together to rescue as many people as we can; You can call me Geni.”

Zeo kept a sleeve over his mouth to keep the smoke out, and he already felt like he was walking through hell. How he had not collapsed from trauma endured nightmares by now was beyond him. He just kept going. He saw flames everywhere, flickering on the remains of the bookshelves, tables and the scrolls and books they contained. This wasn't a mere accident. It was Arsene. A deliberate attack and he saw the devastation and pain that was there. He tried to find others but was blinded due to the smoke quickly filling the room. He could barely breathe. He had to wonder... would he escape this time?
WHen the woman would appear, she would only see him stunned. He was frozen for a moment, till her voice dragged him back to his senses. "W-what?! Couh-cough!" he cleared his throat and soon saw her through the smoke. She was hard to see but her tone was oddly calmer than most. He didn't know what was going on, but he didn't think NOW was the time for pleasantries. They had t o act fast and find any survivors from the fire. "Huh... Um, Zeo. I'm Zeo. But yeah, we need to clear the fire and fast."
Despite the haze of confusion and his own fear, he took out the same trick he used before. Taking out a scroll from his bag-- he soon tossed it open on the ground, despite the flames and smoke around. As it was unfurled before them, it revealed the water kanji in the center of a jutsu formula as he stomped hard on it and made a hand sign. "RELEASE!!" he cried.
From the scroll-- a large mass of water suddenly came upward from where he stood. The water appeared like a guiser and overflowed around them, spreading to the parts of the fire around them. It would give them room-- and water to work with to put out the fires around. While the flames were put out and pushed back, the smoke still billowed. It wasn't going to be that easy.
"We gotta find the other survivors somehow?!" Zeo cried to the stranger Geni.

She hadn't realized how bad the fire had been, having been a tad more focused on her getting to the first person she could. Zeo was the name of the man and as smoke began to fill the hallways and slithering into the rooms of the academy. It wasn't that she couldn't feel the slow burn and sting of the smoke, but rather her adrenaline was overpowering that and allowing her to keep a calm mindset, and she watched with interest as Zeo produced a scroll- labeled with the symbol for Water. What’s he doing? She wondered with awe as he applied chakra to the scroll and produced a giant water geister from around him, dampening and extinguishing the fires immediately around then, that he then directed towards the areas nearest to them to try and quell the flames as much as possible. They were quieted and the flames were pushed back but now there was the fact that water had puddled around them. It wasn’t a body of water, but the puddles should be enough for her to work with,
Geni pushed chakra into her hand, making the hand signs of Ram, clone seal, Dog and the half seal for water, and knelt down, tapping her hand into the puddle nearest to them and initiated the Water Release: Rain Shark technique with just enough destructive power to extinguish the remaining flames, creating a shark that growled to life and swam around them lazily, but as it winded past Zeo and began to move behind them she produced a kunai and slashed the shark-shaped body of water at it rounded her side, dispersing it into smaller water droplets that formed into smaller, shark-shaped forms and sent them forward into the rooms near them and rooms down the hall to kill the remaining flames, but she brought a sleeved hand up to her mouth, the sharks taking the smoke with them, reaching out with her chakra sensory using what chakras had done their task and vanished, leaving her chakra behind, to find other people- she could distinguish perhaps four or five people but trying to look past her own chakra to sense theirs was tricky to say the least, since hers seemed to over power theirs as opposed to other situations where her chakra had been the weaker contender.
“There’s four or five other people- one in the next room and a few more down the hall.” Geni voiced confidently.

Zeo's efforts, clearly did shed some results. It was good he was able to supply more water to put out the fire. BY now, he was sure some of the shinobi would come with more help to stop the fire and evacuate the academy. It didn't take a genius to figure out that a blast in the school wasn't some out of hand jutsu-- but an attack. The implications would be that serious.
He would have gone right and done what he did before-- using Water Dragon Bullet to try and clear out the flames, but the problem Water Dragon Bullet was too strong. Even if he restrained the power, it would tear through the library-- and the shelves, and the walls-- and cause more damage from that much water pressure. However, it was then that the woman near him. He didn't grasp too much on details due to the smoke, but what she did make clear what she was capable of. She stuck her hand into the formed water to cast a jutsu. IT was then she conjured a large shark made out of water.
Surprised, Zeo jumped back-- enough smoke clear to see the giant man-eater jutsu she conjured. With a strike from her however, she attacked her own shark to create multiple smaller ones which soon 'swam' through the air towards the fires. More of the fire was put out, only leaving a few embers about . However, it was no time to get complacent as there was still a risk of fire spreading despite their efforts.
As Zeo looked in awe at the advance water jutsu and its versatile nature, she soon spoke up-- she was quick to detect the chakra of survivors. Realizing they were at risk, he shook his head and snapped out of his moment. "R-Right. I'll take the one in the nearby room and get him out. Ill join you to help with the others once I got the first one out. he explained.
Rushing through to the other room, he kicked down some debris that was in the way to find another student coughing. He appeared to be younger than him and in just as much shock as Zeo was moments ago. "It's okay! You're going to be fine. I'll help you get out of here." he said clearly to the younger student as he took his arm to guide him and brought it over his shoulder.
Despite his wounded state, the student moved with Zeo as he left the library. Despite being clear of the library, the smoke still billowed in the school hall. He soon flinched as he saw someone in the smoke-- but turned out to be other instructors from the academy. "Please take him!" Zeo explained and handed the boy to the older instructor. "I'm going back in to get the others."
With that and before any exchange of words-- Zeo returned back to the library to help the woman still there.

Maybe it was just her, or maybe it was the jutsu… but Genevieve had never truly stopped to see how strong she was. It may have been that when she was using her jutsu she was never truly focused on them; when she Trained with Kenshin, we was focused on Kenshin, when she trained with others she focused on learning the jutsu rather than the other people, when she was in the Chunnin Exams she found herself focusing on surviving the fight and keeping herself hidden rather than anything else.
She never bothered to take the time to focus on her own strength and now, here was a decisive reminder of some gauge of it. Never before had she intentionally lowered the strength of a jutsu, it had always been the opposite, and the one time shade had for this situation she had been successful. Where the sharks had gone now only remained dampened, smothered homes where fires once lived, their distant embers of offspring dying soon after. She had been successful and now it was dawning on her and she was a more capable fighter than perhaps she had realized- but she couldn't let that go to her head.
Zeo said he would help out the person in the nearby room and she left him to do that as she rushed down the hall toward the other room where she sensed the chakra signatures; The door had been swallowed in flames but they had recently been extinguished by her jutsu; now all that's left was to get into the room. She did so by kicking in the door despite her better judgement and the weakened door crumpled under her foot slamming into it and sending it to the floor. Four small heads poked out from behind an overturned desk and Geni called to them, “This way, keep your heads down; quickly.” She called and the children followed her orders, hastily scrambling towards her in crouched down forms, and she led them out of the room, past the room Zeo had gone to and she only stood up when they ran outside, a medical ninja coming over to lead the small group of children away, and met Zeo near the entrance of the building again, “Are you hurt?” She asked Zeo when she saw him, “If you are, I know some medical jutsu.”

Zeo had left the one student in the care of the chunin who found them-- and ran back to the library where he left the woman Gene. The smoke once again burned his eyes and throat as he tried to navigate through and he braced his mouth to keep the smoke out. He was able to retrace his steps but the smoke still made visibility hard.
It wasn't long till he soon ran into them-- the women Gene along with the other students. it seemed they were all together from the blast and were roughly unharmed, beyond stuck there. Zeo felt a bit of relief, and exhaustion from everything going on. He soon joined with her at the entrance. To his amazement and their quick-acting, they were able to get out the ones trapped. But still, there was the clear sign that there were those dead in the library. Students lost forever.
Zeo finally crumbled against the wall as the woman Gene approached him and asking if he needed any medical treatment. It was then that Zeo noticed a part of his arm was stung a bit, his kimono and skin a little bit tender from a nearby burn and shatters from the initial explosion. He had to wonder if he was lucky to survive all of this. Whether it was his chakra sensory skills or that strange 'intuition' he picked up, he had reacted quick enough to avoid fatal injury. With all the excitement, he didn't even notice he was wounded.
Zeo nodded to her, showing his arm. While the injury was not severe, it wasn't pretty either as it would have had consequences later if not treated. He could rest, however, as the task of clearing out the library was indeed done. The other shinobi would be able to help wrap up and put out the fires.
For now, he finally let his mind rest as he was treated for his wounds. While he pushed through, his fear of fire remained. That horrible reminder of what he lost and his powerlessness in the face of such a disaster. It would continue to haunt him still as he finally got to rest, and literally fell asleep right then and there.
