Interrogation:

Word around Kirigakure was a big time drug lord had been going around distributing illegal substances and goods around to people unhindered. Rumor has it that it was some big, unknown crime boss that was seemingly untouchable since nobody knew his identity. Although this would normally be considered a minor matter in Kizmaru's eyes, the increase of illness and death has been skyrocketing that production had dropped to an all time low when the village hidden in the mist didn't have a new Mizukage to take over. He could no longer ignore it anymore and decided enough was enough. After weeks and weeks of investigations and getting his most elite anbu squads on the job, Kizmaru had eventually tracked him down and had him brought into a little private holding cell where he would get a team of torturers and some anbu on standby to await his arrival. He was to arrive, whether it be alone or with a personal team he had cobbled together for just such an occasion. He had to make absolutely sure that all of his dealings were just strictly in dealing in drugs and illegal arms so he knew nothing of importance had gotten out.

Maybe he could go with a plea deal in order to shorten his sentence but to be quite honest, he already knew the man would be sentenced to life in prison at minimum if not the death penalty for the loss of so many lives due to drug overdose. Well, he had to get the formalities out of the way anyway and he decided in order to make more of an impact, he'd go there dressed as the Mizukage and all. Just for a display of power and a little bit of showing that he cared for his people to show up publicly from time to time and not just some desk jockey. Wearing his Mizukage Robes and hat with the white veil draped around his face, Kizmaru had gotten up from his office in order to go to the prison where they were keeping the crime lord responsible for the turmoil in Kiri. He had hoped when he arrived there, others he had personally invited would show up as well.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Keita had been invited for yet another mission during this fairly prosperous time for the hidden mist village, and this time it would be for another interrogation mission. Keita had gone through two of these missions before, and so he was fairly comfortable with interrogating these sorts of criminals, especially as this time the mission would be a drug lord. In fact, he would be doing this mission with Kizmaru, and he remembered that this was actually the first time they had interacted before, the very first mission he had done after becoming a genin was a similar mission of interrogating criminals. That was a long while ago, which was when Keita was still a small little genin. Well, he was not actually that small or young when the mission happened, but it was just that he had yet to get the promotion to jounin, and the fact that he was still fairly weak, according to the standards of the more experienced genin. Well, that was all in the past, and now that he could do everything on his own and he was far more experienced than he was in the past, he was ready to get this interrogation underway. The afternoon in which this would take place was a rather gloomy one, the clouds much darker than they usually were, which Keita simply felt added to the over all ambiance and dreadfulness of what he and Kizmaru were about to do. Keita walked through the rather chilly afternoon, which basically appeared to be night time considering the dark cloud coverage, towards the prison where this littler interview would be conducted. He wondered if Kizmaru was there already, although thinking about his friends nature, he would have to have been at the prison already, as he was rarely on time when the situation was not dire.

Keita on the other hand, would always show up ten minutes early to whatever time that had been set for the occasion, and this time was no different. He would actually be walking fairly leisurely right then, as he was not in a hurry. It would take him about ten minutes to get to the prison, and by that point, he would be ten minutes, or a little more, early to his appointment and mission. He held the mission paper in his hand and read it again, and the drug lord could be considered very unlucky. The normal magnanimous Keita would turn into what was essentially a psychopath with absolutely no empathy once he viewed you as an enemy or a threat to the village or the innocents. This meant that torturing this person would have about as much impact on Keita as it would dissecting a frog in school would for the more robust middle schoolers around the world. The ability to disassociate the mental anguish of torturing someone was something that not everyone had, as he had seen people walk out of those doors of the torture room and vomit, not willing to believe that they had done something such as that to another human being. It was easy for Keita, as someone who flooded the streets with drugs, corruption, and harming the innocents were crimes that would basically make Keita not really consider you human anymore, you were simply a beast that need to be hunted, an animal to be put down for biting back at their master's hand. It was this cruel thought in Keita's mind as he walked through the doors of the prison, greeted by the guards in front warmly as he made his way towards the interrogation room in the halls.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Thu Sep 03, 2020 4:24 pm
Yosei took one of the plain white featureless masks that were mounted on his wall and placed it on his desk. He still had over an hour to get to the designated destination assigned for him today, and decided to use the parameters of the mission as inspiration for this mask. Typical logic might dictate using one of the demon masks, such as the Hannya design for interrogation, but Yosei felt that was far too obvious. When attempting to intimidate, one should never appear as if they are obviously attempting to be scary as it would undercut the effect. He reserved the Hannya masks for surprise factor moments when he could startle an enemy with an evil visage. For today, he would dip his toe into minimalism and create from himself a canvas for the target to project any kind of fears onto.

Taking his calligraphy set out of the desk, he recalled the lessons that Lord Zeami had given him. Holding the brush out over the mask, he gripped his left forearm tightly with his right hand, holding the sleeve up out of the way so his writing hand wouldn't make any mistakes. In one clean, unbroken motion he dipped the brush in ink and then inscribed a single character meaning "Truth" upon the mask. Setting it aside to dry, he picked out an accompanying outfit. Instead of his usual assortment of vibrant colours, he elected to wear a grey kimono. He put his hair into a top knot and swept the rest behind his shoulders before grabbing his weapon pouch and fans and setting out for the day.
Stepping onto the street, he took a look around his neighbourhood. It was the way it usually was, a little bit run down. Perhaps one day he would pull in the kind of salary needed to live somewhere nicer but for now, it was best to save money so that he could have his own place while still sending some of his earnings back to his family.
Around this time of day, some of the vagrants still wandered around, looking for a generous soul to share some Ryo or food. One such individual, a dishevelled man that Yosei was used to seeing on his street, hobbled over to the young Genin. He was missing several teeth, had patchy grey hair despite only being in his early forties, and his eyes were glazed over in a silver haze. Yosei felt sympathy for the man and anyone in his condition, but due to his nature he couldn't restrain himself from a mild sense of disdain for someone coated in so much filth. It wasn't the man's fault of course, but one can't help the aversions they are born with.

Perhaps out of guilt for his private disgust, Yosei tossed him a Ryo, not wanting to touch the poor soul. The man tried to catch it, but missed and landed in the dirt by accident. Yosei stood over him, wanting to help him up but finding himself quite unable to extend a hand towards the man. The individual simply scooped the coin, along with a handful of dirt, into his pocket and flashed a toothless smile up at Yosei, slurring his gratitude. He got himself up after some time and wandered off, towards a kitchen or shelter, or perhaps somewhere that he could convert that coin into a few moments of bliss.

The disgust Yosei felt, the shame he felt for feeling disgusted, the pity he had for the man, the anger he had that anyone should end up like him - he let it all smelt in the furnace of his mind and forge into a thin, deadly point. Many people were responsible for that kind of suffering in the world, too many to hold accountable, but today at least Yosei could come face to face with one of them. The kind of kingpin who got rich off of selling the illegal substances that plagued not only parts of this village, but the world? For him, Yosei had only disgust, no shame or pity. The blade of that disgust might have the chance to impale him today, though the mission parameters required that he twist the blade before severing a life with it. After a morning of complicated emotions, it was reassuring to settle into sheer apathy, the appropriate state of mind for interrogation.

Despite how he struggled against his habit of arriving everywhere far too early, Yosei still found himself arriving a few minutes before the arranged time. It seemed like the only other person there was Keita. Keita hadn't been there the last time Yosei interrogated someone, which was probably for the best considering how it went. This time would be different; it was no small time petty criminal, but a vile prisoner who deserved not even the illusion of mercy.

Waving hello to Keita, Yosei spoke to him in a neutral tone.
"Good afternoon, Keita Sensei," Yosei said. "It seems we're both the punctual type. The weather is certainly appropriately grim for today's affairs, wouldn't you say?"

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Thu Sep 03, 2020 4:46 pm
It took three days to break a man.

The first day he'd be confused- he'd plead his innocence and deny any wrongdoing. This wasn't just to convince the interrogators, she had learned. This was also to convince themselves.

On the second day, he'd fall silent. He'd know what he was in for, and by that point, he'd know that the chances of returning to the surface to return to civil life were slim to none.

On the final day, he would speak. There would be no escape until they had spilled the wanted information and were finally permitted to die.

Momochi didn't kid herself- it was a cruel and inhumane process, and her willingness to participate made her a special type of scum worse than most other ninja. At any time, she could have stopped. She could have made their suffering more bearable, at least a little. If she had more proficiency in sensory or the favored Yamanaka techniques she might've been able to make it altogether painless. But she didn't.

She was guilty in her complacence. The defense of following orders was flimsy at best, and she wouldn't use it for herself. Momochi scratched her nose as she approached the familiar interrogation offices, where she was waved in without much fanfare into a musty back room, where she spotted a few familiar faces.

"Good morning, gentlemen," the ninja spoke up, scratching her neck. "fancy meeting you here." she'd pause for a moment, waiting for potential replies before proceeding to talk. "We haven't been allowed to touch this guy for a while, so when I heard the higher ups were bringing ninja from other departments in I figured I'd pop in." She was mostly on cleanup in the interrogation department, but the thought of getting in on a potential interrogation was an interesting distraction from day to day operations.

The paycheck didn't hurt, either.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:07 pm
When he arrived at the scene of where the 'interrogation' would take place, the Mizukage sees that all three of them had arrived earlier than he did. Good, good, he could respect punctual people like this and tends to keep them close. Looking all four of them over, he thought having called three different people for interrogation and torture was a bit excessive but then, he thought to himself that it was better to be overcautious than waste everybody's time without getting results. Finally, the Mizukage had lifted his right hand from under the sleeves of the robes he wore, motioning the three of them to follow him into a secluded room where they had kept important prisoners. Though he wasn't sure how important they were to the village, the Mizukage aimed to find. Walking through a dimly lit corridor with an archaic looking venue, the Mizukage eventually happened to come across two chuunin that were both standing in front of a steel door leading to the room where the prisoner was being kept. Clearing his throat loudly in front of them, one had broken from their 'stoic' stance as he fumbled to get the door open to interrogate the man.

Being let in, the mizukage had spotted a fat man with long emo-like bangs in the front and spiked hair in the back, chained to the table in front of him. His expression was of a condescending looking poker face and an arm that was inside of his white gi as if he was treating it like a fashion statement. Must be some sort of gangster's fashion, the Mizukage assumed. Well, time to get to business, he thought to himself. "Thank for coming in Mr Crime lord, not that you had a choice. Now then, let's cut to the chase, we are both busy men in our own right. One of us manages a building and the other, well I guess you could say, he organized crime, yes? You see, the thing is, we are of conflicting professions and you know how this song and dance goes. Normally, I'd leave such small distractions to my Jounin or anbu but you, you're different. You're the lucky one that happens to catch the leader of Kirigaure's attention, even if it's on a whim. And so tell me, do you feel lucky," Kizmaru had said, smiling a bit under his hat's veil.

The fat man shifted his eyes towards the Mizukage slowly as if unphased by his presence or speak before he blurted out the words, 'I'm hungry'. This caused the Mizukage to chuckle briefly before slamming both hands on the table in front of the crime boss. "A comedian that doesn't realize what situation he's in, I see many of you it seems. Well, I was trying to be funny too. Now that the pleasantries are over, let's cut to the chase. Where are your bases of operations, who are your suppliers and from what nation are you getting these illegal goods from. Tell me now and maybe we can come to some sort of deal, that doesn't involve you getting sent to one of my concentration camps and being worked until you die. Your crime records show you've been marked for death but how a person dies is left entirely to me. It can be quick and painless or it could take months or years until you decide to end it all yourself. What's it gonna be pal," He said sternly. For some odd reason, this got a hearty laugh out of the crime boss as he looked at the Mizukage with an expression that questioned if he really ran things here.

This also made the Mizukage laugh, relinquishing the weight of his hands from the table. After they had both settled down, Kizmaru had shrugged, saying solemnly,  "Well, nobody can say I didn't give him a chance. Take it from here guys." With that, the Mizukage walked out of the room, leaving the other three to give it their best shot at cracking the man. The man had given a sneer as the Mizukage had left, saying in a mocking tone, "Awwww, I was too hard a case so the younging left his flunkies here to deal with his problems, typical political figures. Well, do your worst kiddies."  He then turned his attention to the ones who stepped into the room.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Sun Sep 06, 2020 5:45 am
Keita walked through the halls towards the interrogation room, and soon he had heard the foot steps of another person, so he turned to look at them, and it seemed to be the young man that he had done quite a few missions with so far, and some of them were even on purpose. This time, it seemed that Yosei would once again be on the mission with Keita, and he wondered if he should just try and get this young genin on his team at this point, as that seemed rather like a fun prospect. The young man immediately greeted Keita in his usual strange tone, but then again most people were quite strange when one thought about what they had to go through to become shinobi in the first place, and so Keita was perfectly fine with a few eccentric people around him, it seemed to make life a bit more fun. "Greetings Hisori-kun, you're probably going to do well on this mission, and I can take it easy." Keita flattered the young man a little bit, before going off to the side and seeing yet another person show up, this time it was the sweet Yamanaka woman that Keita remembered from a mission before hand when she had handed him an extra pair of gloves during a poisonous plant retrieval mission. "Especially because it seems that there are reinforcements. Greetings to you as well, miss Yamanaka." Keita said with his signature warm smile, as he listened to her speak a little bit about what was going on at hand, hearing her say that she was popping in this mission due to the higher ups finally allowing them to handle this criminal. Keita knew that Yamanaka clan members had fairly strong ties with interrogation missions, so he was not surprised that she was here, and this made KEita fairly hopeful.

He did not really mind torturing people, especially when they were a criminal with interests that were actively hindering the village that he was so protective of, but this gave the genin a good chance to show off, as they probably had their own methods that they wanted to try, and different reasons for wanting to interrogate a criminal. Keita had already been a part of two fairly high profile torturing missions, so he definitely knew how to get information out of someone, but he did want to see how these two younger members of the village handled a situation like this. There seemed to be something off about Yosei, so Keita thought that maybe things did not phase him like they phased other people, and so the thought process was that he would be able to torture someone without actually feeling anything about it. This was actually a hindrance, however, as to torture someone you had to know what made them tick, and to do this, you had to have a fairly regular state of mind the rest of the time so that you could figure out what people did under high stress, as you yourself would have probably undergone the same thing a couple of times in your life. You had to know much more than just what would be the most painful to do to a person physically, you had to also somehow let them know that you were going to peel back the layers on their psyche and make sure that they would be scarred for life and barely be considered alive after you tortured them. You needed them to taste despair, and there could be no such despair without giving them hope first. That is when a person could be broken down the furthest. Keita might talk to them about this after the mission, depending on how they did, but for now he decided that he would simply watch their progress, and then head home to write up am sort of grading paper on their work.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Sun Sep 06, 2020 3:06 pm
After catching up with Keita and Momochi a little, Yosei followed the group inside as the MIzukage arrived. He spent some time in the interrogation room with the convict before re-emerging and passing the buck onto the others. Yosei was relieved he didn't get out of bed today just to watch his superiors do all the work. Keita, ever pensive, seemed to be taking a bit of a back seat, observing the two less experienced shinobi. Another opportunity had presented itself for Yosei to showcase his skills not just to Keita, but to Momochi, an important peer in the world of intelligence and interrogation which he had significant interest in. The last time he had been assigned to interrogating someone,  he had mentioned to the supervisor that this was an area he was hoping to work in one day. Now, another test had been provided. It was important to him that he demonstrate his usefulness.
"Please, allow me to soften him up further. You can expect him to be rather pliable when it gets to your turn, Momochi." Yosei said. "Oh, and I'm sure I don't need to tell either of you this but just in case, please don't open the door no matter what you hear from inside, even if it sounds like me."
He fetched a small styrofoam cup from a break room and filled it with water to bring into the interrogation with him. As he entered, he removed his mask and hung it on his belt. Coming face to face with the subject of the interrogation, Yosei closed the door behind him and placed the cup of water on the table that the other man was bound to. The crime lord, wearing a disparaging snarl on his face, instantly slapped it away. Water splashed all over the floor and table, wetting both Yosei and the captive.
"Bitch." The man spat.
Internally, Yosei only felt a mild disgust for the man's tasteless manner. Externally, however, he feigned a stricken look, as if deeply offended.
"Uh, please don't say things like that," He stuttered nervously. "Now then, I believe that my associate asked you some q-questions..."
"What the hell is this?" The criminal shouted. "First a weasel who's too scared to show his face, now some doll-faced bratty intern who can't string a sentence together without pissing himself?"
Yosei looked at the floor in mock shame.
"I was told," Yosei said, appearing to steel himself against a tide of great fear. "To give you a choice. You can choose Nightmare, or Daydream."
"So, you're saying this can go the easy way or the hard way right?" The criminal snorted derisively. "This is some amateur hour shit right here."
Swallowing hard and letting his hands tremble a bit visibly, Yosei continued. "Daydream means you will be treated well and experience sheer delight of the senses. All you have to do to pick Daydream is provide me with the answers that my colleague asked. Nightmare, on the other hand -"
"I get it already you stupid dandy," He said, rolling his eyes. "Get on with it already. I'm not gonna tell you shit just because you came up with this cute little idea."

Yosei nodded. The effects of the genjutsu started slowly. The droplets of water on the crimelords skin that had splashed on him earlier began to multiply, dividing like cells. It continued until his right hand was sopping wet. He noticed this, but continued to give Yosei the evil eye, ignoring what was happening to him. Soon his whole body was water-logged and dripping, forming a puddle beneath his feet. He began to show some signs of mild discomfort, but he was closer to irritation than anything else. Then, the puddle grew until it reached from wall to wall, a few inches deep.

"So you have some kind of water jutsu, huh? You think I haven't seen worse? HA! You mist ninja really are some pathetic scum, you know that?"

Despite his bluster, the water level rose. It enveloped both of them, reaching up to their necks. The front that the crimelord was putting on began to show some cracks. As the water reached his chin, Yosei finally got a reaction out of him.

"You - You're an idiot, you know that? What good is drowning me anyway, huh? I can't tell you anything if I die!"

Yosei feigned panic. "I - I didn't think of that. Jutsu... Cancel!"

Of course, nothing happened. The water continued to rise and Yosei widened his eyes with terror.

"Stop kidding around and get rid of the water!"

"I - I can't! I don't know how to reverse it! Help! Help us!"

"You're kidding right?"

Yosei pounded and clawed at the steel door, begging for help until his throat was hoarse. The water level rose until it was close to the ceiling and both men were floating so that they could just barely keep their mouths above it. Yosei continued to struggle and panic, flailing madly.

"Alright! I get it! I pick Daydream! Okay? Did you hear me? Hey!"

The man began to reach for Yosei to shake him as the water passed over their heads, enveloping them both completely. Yosei's body was entirely still, face frozen in the final moments of anguish as he floated up to the top, face down. In that moment, sheer terror filled the crime lord's eyes as he realized he had been condemned to a watery grave.

In reality of course, he was still seated in the same place he'd been since the beginning, Yosei calmly sitting across from him. Suffocation by Water genjutsu, embellished a little with Yosei's talent for acting and further illusions, had merely tricked his body into thinking it was dying. Yosei watched placidly as the man, whose mind was convinced he was in the middle of his death throes, thrashed and struggled, nails breaking and curling up as he clawed at the tabled, torso convulsing violently. By now he was so exhausted and agonized by the process of drowning that he would await the icy cold feeling in his lungs and the numbing blackness in his vision, signs that death was finally taking him. They would not come however, for this was a nightmare without release.

Yosei let him drown a few minutes longer. The trouble with torture was that if you inflict enough pain on someone they lose all sense of themselves and begin telling you all kinds of things, true or not, anything to end the suffering. But if you imbue in them a fear so strong that it becomes a phobia, well; a phobia was the death of all logic, all conviction. It would undermine any fortifications of the mind.
Refilling the cup of water with a low level suiton technique, Yosei picked it up again and walked over to the door. He opened it and stood as if he was just walking in, then slammed it shut. As it slammed shut, he ended the genjutsu and suddenly the crimelord found himself back where he was. Yosei sat down exactly as he had earlier and placed the filled cup of water in front of him. This time, he didn't slap it away.

"Now then, I believe my associate asked you some questions. I was told to give you a choice. You can choose Nightmare, or Daydream."

He sat down calmly. The crimelord was gasping for breath and looked utterly bewildered. He looked around the room for a second, trying to figure out what had happened, looking for some kind hint.

"Are you alright? You look a little bit flustered."

"I pick daydream." He mumbled in a daze. Yosei smiled. It looked as if the fear had taken root. Observing how the crime lord eyed the cup of water, Yosei guessed he wouldn't be going near any bodies of water for some time.

"My, how compliant you are. And to think I was nervous to face down such a seasoned killer. I'll let my colleagues know."

Normally, Yosei didn't like to show off, but seeing as this was an area where his skills had considerable applicability and he wanted to impress, he didn't mind so much. He could only hope that his efforts were as fruitful as he imagined they would be, and that Momochi would be able to easily extract all relevant information from the shaken prisoner. Then again, even if he managed to put back up his overconfident front, Momochi was likely more talented than Yosei in this field, so at the end of the day it didn't matter too much. Privately, he also hoped Keita got to watch through the security camera or at least view the tapes later. It would be nice if his talents were appreciated or, more likely, that Keita could enlighten him on some areas of improvement.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Fri Sep 11, 2020 9:22 pm
Momochi filled out form after form as she watched the interrogation from the corner of her eye. She may have wanted to see what was going on, especially since it was one of her most well-known acquaintances in the room, but work was work- and she was, no matter how much she wished otherwise, still on duty. A few droplets of dark red ink had spilled onto her fingers- leftovers from approval pens and whatnot that she had been using to sign off on some papers. After a few moments, loud shouts and panicked yelling grabbed her attention- however, when she peeked inside the room from the one sided glass, there didn't seem to be anything amiss... A slight tilt of the head. Yosei did seem to favor genjutsu... Though she couldn't say for certain unless she opened her Mind's Eye, and that was a waste of chakra at the moment. She had faith in the blonde, though whether it was ill placed or not remained to be seen. Eventually, however, he opened the door and walked out- she supposed it was her turn on the man, then. She took a brief glance at the others in the lobby before making her way into the small cell. "Good morning," she spoke up cheerfully, eyeing his shuddering form. His eyes traced her fingers- still stained crimson from the ink which she had intentionally not wiped off. "Though I'm technically not supposed to use anything too drastic on civilians, I suppose what my superiors don't know won't hurt them. You won't tell, will you?"

It was, obviously, a bluff. Whatever she was about to do to him would be completely in line with the guidelines and restrictions for non ninja detainees. He, however, would not know that. A twitch of her finger saw a senbon delicately balanced on her thumb. In the dim lighting, it was difficult to see- but if the light caught on it just right, it would flicker in and out of view of the man before her. She sat down in front of the stranger, looking him in the eyes and crossing her ankles demurely. She waited a while in silence until he began to shift uncomfortably. The silent declaration had stated that this procedure took place on her time, not his. After a few moments, her gaze snapped to his before her voice rang out throughout the room, tone unreadable compared to her original upbeat tone. "What's your name?" after a moment of shock, he stuttered out a few syllables- and a quick flash of her Mind's Eye showed that he was not deliberately trying to mislead her. The questions continued until she had gotten all the necessary information and left the room.

Unfortunately for her, she had to leave to finish the paperwork- but hopefully her coworkers could meet up again sometime without the pressure of their jobs weighing down on them.

Interrogation: Crimelord Empty Re: Interrogation: Crimelord

Exiting the room from the mission, Kizmaru was a bit annoyed at having come all this way here to still get a smartass that doesn't realized how screwed he was. Honestly, he didn't expect anything but he was still disappointed by what he got which is fairly impressive. Well, it was no longer in his hands nor did he care to continue to interrogate such a low level criminal. That wasn't his job and frankly, he didn't care any more. Kizmaru then traversed the long corridor of  he had initially came through back to the entrance of the building. Pondering on what to do next, he decided it was best to just go back to his apartment to relax a little bit and wait for the results of this mission.
