A dark soul finds a companion

A smile painted the face of the Hatake as he looked over to Kurayami, hearing his voice and see his eyes. There was a sense of understanding there, a sense of growth that was both refreshing and needed. The boy’s confession to wanted to draw his blade on Tsuna was not taken with ill intent, instead he showed no disappointment towards those words at all. “That’s quite alright. I wouldn’t have held that against you, Kurayami. I tend to dwarf a lot of people with my method of thinking. You reaction wouldn’t have been much different in my opinion. We all process our irrationalities differently, and because of that it makes us all unique. I expected no different from you and you should not feel shame for it. What matters is that you did not act on it. Haha. Would be kind of hard to explain to our superiors how your blade ended up in pieces and your pride torn. Wouldn’t you agree?”The ashen haired boy would chuckle, taking what was said to him rather seriously, but showed a smile in the face of it. 

Tsuna has always been a odd individual, his lack of effort seemed to rival his superior intellect. But what seem to eclipse them both was his heart and genuine nature in the face of his comrades. He always sets out to keep his word when he makes a promise to himself. For instance, when he learned that his opponent in the chuunin exams was the same person that abandoned Yuuma, Tsuna made a promise to take his arm and even though he lost that round, he did just that in the end. 

Tsuna saw much of himself in Kurayami, his parents aimed to ingrain cruel beliefs into him, while Tsuna’s aimed to instill the perks of great effort into him. “I am pleased to see that you have accepted my word. I can hear it in your voice that they’ve shaken the very foundation of your core and your family beliefs. I will never tell you that your family raised you wrong, that is just not my place. I am sure they only gave you what they knew was right. It is not all the way wrong, nor is it all the way right - but there is a middle ground where you must come to decide for yourself which path you wish to choose and ultimately what kind of man you want to be.  Either a shinobi, or a knight. That is a choice only you can make, no one else.” Tsuna would look around as he gave their surroundings one last glance. 

It was time for them to report back to the village with the prize in hand. Tsuna deemed Kurayami worth of being a candidate for something that he had his mind set on for the near future. But he would rather not bring it to his attention... not just yet. There was still another matter that he wanted to see for himself before he was confident to do so. Once Kurayami had his full of the land, Tsuna would take the lead to return to the village. While storing a portion of his chakra reserves into his armor.

The young Shinkou was not surprised by Tsuna's response to his admittance of having contemplations of turning his blade onto him. He was not arrogant, but he was certainly confident in the gap between the two of them. He knew that there was certainly a gap in power between them, but he had not thought it was such an obvious fact to him. This would be something that he knew Tsuna did not mean as a dig or a jab, but he couldn't help but to take it as one. The thought of their difference had begun in his mind, and even deeper in his soul, and it began to eat at his brain.

"No we wouldn't want that." The boy said to his comrade, beginning to feel his confidence be sapped away from him with every word. His mind became more in line with a dark cloud, swirling around a single speck of light, and that speck was beginning to shrink even smaller. He did his best to brush it off, or at least not let it get to the surface so his comrade could see the fact that he was shaken by the comment that he had meant as a joke. 

His comrade continued to speak, speaking on his family and the beliefs that they had attempted to ingrain into his mind. Tsuna spoke again with confidence, bordering on the line of arrogance, on how the words he spoke seemed to have shaken his very foundation of his belief. Maybe that was exactly why he felt like he was at such a loss when it came to their power levels. Kurayami couldn't help but to chuckle nervously, as he didn't exactly know what it was that he wanted to say, and the only thing he could think of was the difference in their power. 

He spoke on the difference between the choices of a knight, and that of a shinobi. They were certainly two different lives, and based on what he had seen, he wanted to be a knight. Or at least he thought that that was what he wanted. He knew that he was going to have to make that decision, but he just didn't know what he wanted in his life anymore. He knew that he still wanted to protect his village by any means necessary, but at the level that he was currently, he knew that there wasn't much that he was going to protect, not anytime soon.

He had learned so much about himself, about just how weak he truly was when compared to another shinobi in the village, and he honestly didn't know how to feel about it. He learned about his comrade at the same time. He knew that Tsuna was farther in his journey to become a higher up in the village than he was, but he couldn't help himself but to feel bad about his position in the pecking order, and it was eating away at his sanity. He watched as Tsuna walked over to the meteor and began to break a piece off of the meteor, which the young Shinkou did the same. 

He thought about the woman that had been here for the meteor, and how they probably could have shared the rock between them all. He brought the rock home, back to the village. He had allowed Tsuna to take the lead on the way back home. As they both sprinted through the desert, he continued to think of the difference in strength between them, and what he could do to close that gap, by any means necessary.
