A Sanctuary
Sun May 30, 2021 1:15 am
Gonk followed Momo through the rainy streets through the village of Kirigakure. The rain coupled with the fact that they were both in mouse form meant that there was a very low chance of the two of them being discovered.
“Where on earth could he be taking me?” Gonk wondered as Momo cut across yet another property. After a total of around 15 minutes of running through the village, Momo stopped outside of a large mansion.
“Why does this place look familiar?” Gonk wondered as he racked his brain for a memory. Then it hit him. “This is Travin’s house!” Gonk exclaimed as the memory came to him. Gonk had met up with Travin here once before, but he hadn’t gone inside.
“If I recall correctly Momo wasn’t with me at the time…” Gonk thought as he stared at his companion.
“Momo, how the hell do you know where Travin lives?” Gonk asked suspiciously.
“Well…” Momo began, “after meeting that big snake of his on that trip, I decided it would be best to know where my enemies lived, so one day I followed Travin until he returned here.”
Gonk was about to let out an exclamation but Momo cut him off.
“Don’t worry, I didn’t go inside or anything. Now come on, do you want a place to stay or what?”
“Alright, I supposed this is a good place to hide, but we can’t just walk in. We need to let him know first, and I know how to do it." Gonk led Momo into another alley, and after making sure there was nobody watching, transformed from a mouse to a man in a delivery uniform.
“Here’s the plan,” Gonk whispered as he produced a pen and piece of paper. “I walk over to the house, say I have a message for Travin, and give him this note saying it’s me and I’m in some danger. We walk into the house, out of site from the street, then send a clone back out. The clone goes back into the same alley, transforms into a mouse, then runs off. Eventually it’ll disperse.”
As he was explaining the plan, Gonk was scribbling down a short note on the piece of paper.
It read: This is Gonk. I’m in danger, and I need your help. I’ll explain more shortly.
“Alright, Momo, you follow me in mouse form.”
Momo nodded, so Gonk went out the other end of the alley, onto a street. The walk back to Travin’s house was short, so in a minute, Gonk, disguised as a messenger, was knocking on the door. He hoped Travin himself would answer the door, but if it was his parents, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. But Gonk hoped most of all he hadn’t been seen, and wouldn’t be bringing any trouble to the Rentei family.

Travin was in the backyard on the corner of the compound where he kept Render’s food in cages. Render was waiting for Travin to open the door so he could get to his meal. Today was a full-grown Doberman and Render had been waiting for this one he was going to be full for days with this meal. “Just open the cage already” he telepathically almost screamed into Travins head. With a laugh, Travin opened the cage, and Render dove in like a bat out of hell wrapping his body around the dog and squeezing for all he was worth. Travin turned and walked away knowing that Render would be a little while before coming back over. He walked over to the pool and sat down on the patio furniture. “Lee, you bring me a glass of whiskey” He called over to one of the manservants. The tall thin man gave a nod and walked over to the outside bar grabbing a glass and a bottle.
It was about this time that the doorbell went off. Travin was able to hear it from the patio but simply ignored it knowing that Bruce the head butler would get the door. Bruce would open the door wearing his standard butler clothes “What may we do for you good sir” he would ask gonk. Bruce knew that while packages were not normally hand-delivered it was still suspect considering that the delivery man was not in the correct uniform of one of the approved delivery companies. This set off several warning bells for Bruce who had been handling this kind of stuff for over 20 years. He simply reached over to the door and pushed a simple button on the backside of the door.
Within seconds of Bruce opening the door for Gonk and probably in mid-sentence for Gonk, a silent warning bell would go off in the minds of everyone in the house. Travin and the rest of the shinobi in the house would use their jutsu to close the distance Travin and five other shinobi all of B rank in power or higher would teleport around Gonk swords or kunai drawn. While three more would appear on the roof of the house with bows and an additional two shinobi inside the house between both Gonk and Bruce.
Travin would put a stop to anything once he was on the scene, however, “It’s all OK it’s just a friend of mine” he would yell out and the rest of the shinobi would turn or vanish going back to their duties. Once they were all gone Travin would turn to Gonk “Your lucky I recognized your chakra signature man that could have gone bad” he said with a bit of a laugh. Before adding “Come on in let’s go to the back of the house to the patio I Lee making drinks and you can tell me why you just showed up like this.” Travins tone would be friendly after all Gonk was one of his oldest friends in the village and he trusted the man. If Gonk agreed Travin would lead him through the 100 square foot mansion and out the back door to the patio. The patio itself covered another 100 meters with a massive swimming pool and a bar with several tables and comfy chairs. Once they were seated Travin would make sure that Gonk knew that he could speak openly here and would offer him a drink.

A few moments after Gonk rang the doorbell, the door was opened by someone who appeared to be a butler.
“Hello, I have a message here for Travin Rentei, I’ve been instructed to give it to him directly.”
As he spoke, Gonk would hold up to paper to try to show his legitimacy. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough, as six shinobi appeared out of nowhere and leapt at him with weapons.
Without a good look at the assailants, Gonk assumed they were assassins after him, so he started to form hand seals, determined not to die there. Just as he completed his hand seals and was about to fire a colossal amount of water in all directions, he heard Travin’s voice calling out to the attacking shinobi. Just as suddenly as they had appeared, the shinobi all vanished, only leaving Travin standing there with Gonk.
Gonk nodded at Travin’s words, still in a bit of shock that the assailants were actually his friends' family. As soon as Gonk was in the house and the door was shut, he undid the transformation, his clothes turning back to normal and his face turning greyish blue. Gonk followed Travin through the huge mansion, absorbing the beauty.
“Say…” Momo said nervously, no longer in mouse form. “That snake, Render, isn't going to eat me right?”
“Hush Momo,” Gonk told him sternly. “You’ll be fine. We’ve got other things to worry about.”
Gonk followed Travin out into the massive back yard.
“Wow this place has everything,” Gonk thought as he made his way to a chair.
“A drink?” Gonk asked, a bit surprised. “Yeah sure, something strong.”
“I want a drink too!” Momo exclaimed fiercely.
“Something for Momo too, but make it small.”
Momo scowled, but said nothing.
“Sorry about showing up like that,” Gonk told Travin, starting his story. “You see, my plan was to give you this note,” Gonk held up the paper, “to say it was me, come into the house, then send a clone back out as a decoy.”
As Gonk finished explaining his former plan to Travin the drinks arrived. Gonk wasn’t a frequent drinker, so he didn’t recognize the liquid, but he took a sip of the beverage. It was strong, but he was already starting to feel more calm.
“So anyways,” Gonk continued after thanking the man who brought the drinks. “I went through all that trouble because I may be being followed. I’m not sure if they know I’m in the village or not yet but after that show of power your family displayed I doubt they’ll try to attack me here.” Gonk gave a smile. “Oh yeah, so these people that are after me are probably assassins sent by my grandfather to kill me.” Gonk paused for a moment. “Well I technically don’t have evidence that they’re after me but I’m pretty damn sure. It’s a lot of family politics but basically if I’m made a chunin my grandfather will be pressured to step down as clan head. A move he clearly doesn’t want to make as he already estranged his only living son, who’s my uncle. When I was in Hoshigakure, he sent me a letter saying there was an emergency and I needed to get back right away. Well I don’t see an emergency do you? Hell, I even asked the Mizukage if there was a problem and he said no.” Gonk took a deep breath and another sip of his drink. “So yeah, I don’t trust him one bit now, so I need a place to lay low for awhile. If I return back to my apartment he’ll know I’m there immediately and I have no idea where else I could stay.”
Gonk would lean back in his chair and gaze up at the stormy sky. Trying to come up with what to do next. He certainly couldn’t just stay at Travin’s place forever. If his friend let him crash here for a bit it would serve as a way to buy him a bit of time to figure out what to do. Hiding in the mansion, although nice, wouldn’t just make the problem go away. He had to come up with a way to either make the clan head peacefully make him the clan head, or kill him without making it seem like straight up murder. Gonk would certainly prefer the former, as being clan head wasn’t something he had his heart set on or anything. Not that he would mind being clan head. He just wanted what was best for the clan, which at the moment happened to be overthrowing his grandfather, who had allowed for the massive loss of life and financial ruin within the clan. Gonk sighed and took another swallow of the drink. For now Gonk could only plan, and prepare for the fact that he might have to slay his own grandfather.

Travin thought about what Gonk was telling him. He knew all too well how some people didn’t want to let go of power. He also knew that sometimes the best and easiest way to deal with them was to just kill them, but this was Gonks’s problem, and wouldn’t tell the man what to do. He would offer advice and help him out but it would be Gonks choose on what route this took them down. “Lee, call Dave over here I got something for him to do if you don’t mind,” Travin told Lee once Gonk was finished. “You’re more than welcome to stay here as long as you want or need my friend,” he told Gonk. “Dave here is really good at finding out information and getting into places without being seen probably one of the best in my entire clan and is the one teaching me how to do the same. I trust him” Travin would add.
A few moments of Travin telling Gonk about Dave and his skillset plus. Dave would walk up to the table and sit down once Travin gestured for him too. “Dave my friend here needs you to look into his clan leader. Don’t do anything risky or leave a trail just find out what information you can and let us know” Travin would tell Dave before looking to Gonk to let Dave know what he needs to know. If Gonk looked to be unsure about anything Travin would try and comfort his friend telling him that Dave works for the family and is paid very nicely and has genjutsu placed inside of his mind that keeps him from telling anything about what is done here.
Once Gonk was done filling in Dave on what he needed to know. Travin would see Dave off to start his work and go to show Gonk around the compound. He would start with the pool house where Gonk would be staying for his time here. The pool house came with its own waitstaff and fully stocked kitchen and was a good-sized five-bedroom 4 ½ bathhouse.

Gonk glanced sideways as Travin asked a man named Lee to bring another man named Dave over to them.
“Thanks, I appreciate your hospitality,” Gonk replied to Travin when told he could stay as long as he required. A moment later the man named Dave arrived, and Travin introduced him to Gonk. Gonk was impressed by the high praise Dave was given, and he trusted Travin’s judgement so he went ahead and told him all he needed to know.
“The main thing I need to know is if this man, Hijiki Hoshigaki, has hired any assassins recently. Any details about these hired men such as numbers and skill appreciated but don’t risk being caught to obtain them. The most important thing is to find out if they exist.”
Unable to think of any other information that would be critical to know, Gonk told Dave just that, causing Travin to see Dave off. After Dave was left, Gonk followed Travin around the grounds, and was led to a huge pool house, which was apparently where he would be staying.
“Wow this place is massive!” Gonk said as he walked through the doors. He was shown around each floor of the building, which contained a whopping total of 5 bedrooms and 4 and a half bathrooms. When the tour of the building was over, Gonk turned to Travin and said “I can’t thank you enough for this.” He was about to ask Travin what they should do now, when the butler from earlier walked up to them holding a scroll.
“Excuse me gentlemen,” Bruce said, bowing his head. “But there is a message for the two of you.”
Gonk frowned. “The two of us? Does that mean someone knows I’m here?”
“Yes, it would seem that way,” Bruce responded. “But this is from the Kage’s office so I wouldn’t be too worried about your location being compromised.”
Gonk took the letter out of Bruce’s hand and read the contents aloud.
“Gonk Hoshigaki and Travin Rentei are both immediately summoned to the office of the Mizukage. More details will be given upon arrival.”
“The Mizukage?” Gonk wondered. “Wow twice in one day! But what could this be about?” Gonk would continue to speculate as he looked up from the letter and glanced at Travin.
“Well we shouldn’t keep the Mizukage waiting,” Gonk said, and would follow Travin to any method of transportation he chose.

Travin was surprised when Bruce walked into the pool house with a scroll in hand. Telling the two of them that the Mizukage was wanting to see both of them. Was another shock to Travin he hadn’t even met the Mizukage yet due to the chunin exams and everything else going on he was promoted while he was out of the village, and now he was being called to his office. Travin thought that maybe he wanted to see if his new jounin was up to the task but then thought again since Gonk was also being summoned as well. However, he did think that maybe he had a mission for both Gonk and himself that would allow him to show off his skills or something.
Once Gonk had finished reading over the scroll and Bruce had walked back out of the pool house. Gonk told Travin that they should probably not keep the Mizukage waiting to which Travin agreed. Before making a few hand signs and grabbing Gonk by the shoulder. In a flash of blue light, the two would vanish and reappear in front of the Mizukage’s office building. “Sorry, I would have taken us straight into the building but I’ve been warned about that from other shinobi. Apparently, it doesn’t always end well for the one teleporting in” Travin would leave the rest for Gonks imagination to figure out what all could happen.
