Kazue would be considered out and freaky by a fair amount of people, that was if they did not think of him as lazy. When he had zero interest in an activity he would drag his feet. It was why he did not practice his ninja arts much at first. On the other hand, as long as Kazue was into something and wanted to do it. His drive for it would become immeasurable.
It was why he set an impossible goal to challenge Ken. He did not feel scared but a sense of excitement. He may be at the bottom now of being a medical ninja but he knew his thirst to be on top was unquenchable. The thirst that could force him to grow would be a sharpening stone. As long as Kazue continued to improve under the strain the village would be better for it.
Tiger, horse, rabbit, and dog. Kazue made the hand seals in sequential order with relative ease. Then he started to mold the chakra. The first two minutes were made with moderate success. He looked at Kenshin before going back to the task at hand. The smile on Kaz completely disappeared as he struggled. His competitive nature did not want to allow failure. Kazue believed he had something to prove. Even if Kenshin was not taking him seriously he wanted to challenge himself. He had no doubt the pale sensei would kick him out for now if he could not actually perform.
He took a deep breath while trying to mold. It was as if he was preparing for a complicated surgery. Surgery was a routine that Kazue was used to. It was ingrained in his body till it became second nature. He could hold a scalpel as far back as when he could hold a spoon. He recalled the feel of the scalpel. How the cold metal that could easily cut through flesh sang in his hands. His chakra started to flow and take shape.
The total time was eight minutes, forty two seconds, and three milliseconds. “I am done.” The thought of using his chakra and the abilities of a scalpel is what allowed him to do it within the time frame. It was an interesting feat that was accomplished through will power and his ability to visualize properly.
“That was actually harder than I thought it would be.” Kaz did not have to say it. His skin tone had more of a waxy parlor than usual. Reflecting the effort in which he struggled. His breaths were even a tad more ragged. The fact that the jutsu was more stable than when he used mystical palm showed off how hard he could focus. The training he was receiving here was more than he would be able to do struggling alone for some time.

The Raggedy Man would give a small smile as the boy managed to perform the technique within the given time limit, although he could certainly see that the technique wasn’t perfect. The boy had definitely produced a Scalpel, and he was certain that it would rend skin, flesh and bone without issue.
“Well done, producing a Chakra Scalpel at all within the timeframe I gave you is impressive… Perhaps there is some hope for you after-all.” The Ragdoll would then say, his smile not meeting his eyes as per usual. He would maintain the smile for a few seconds, before allowing it to shift into a smirk, and extending his one remaining arm, his hand closed in a very loose fist with his palm towards the ceiling.
“Now, we will test whether you have performed the technique properly or not. I want you to slash down at my arm, full force, right through the centre of the forearm. If you’ve performed the technique properly I’ll be perfectly fine, just a minor internal injury to fix. If you haven’t… well, I’ll be down another arm.” He would state simply, the smirk on his face a mixture of amused and challenging as he stared down Kazue.

Kazue glanced at the arm he was to work on. His eyes turned and stayed blood red with excitement and joy. If he was asked to use ninjutsu to escape a bomb he would be nervous. As far as he was concerned this was asking him to eat ramen with chopsticks. Performing surgery always gave him such a rush. It was an athletes high of his very own.
“Sure. Sure.” He was confident but serious. Years in an emergency room trained his mental state. Besides his mother Kazue believed the other two best surgeons could be found in the room. His chakra just took the job of the scalpel that he was used to using.
Kazue did a quick mental sketch of the arm. He made a quick slice five inches above the hand, into a particular muscle. He used a light touch as if he could actually feel the muscle he was aiming for. “Extensor digitorum muscle has been neatly cut. At the moment your thumb should be functional. Your other fingers not so much. The nick was light and should only be temporary.” Kazue was happy with the performance of the blade.
Taking a moment, Kazue decided to admire his work. He had to admit that he felt proud of what he was able to do. The sense of accomplishment from being a medical nin was a pride that he developed himself. Kazue always felt not every ninja in the world could do what the two in the room could.

Kenshin would frown lightly as Kazue performed the technique perfectly upon his wrist, robbing the motion of four of his fingers temporarily… something he would test and smirk wryly at.
“Perfect form Kazue… unfortunately though, you didn’t heed my instruction. As a result, we’ll be cutting this lesson short here. The first thing you will need to learn is to follow my orders to the letter, one single mistake could well spell the end of a patient, and right now you are very green. Sometimes I will order you to do things you won’t enjoy, or won’t agree with… but you’ll need to learn to put your morals aside and simply do as you are instructed.” He would explain in his usual way, coldly and clinically, his crimson eyes looking right through Kazue. It wasn’t personal, and he suspected Kaz himself would understand that… he was simply a harsh task master.
“Head home, and meet me here at the same time tomorrow. If you’re truly going to surpass me… you have a lot of work to do, and I am curious to see how hard you are willing to work for this goal of yours.”
