Kain walked out of the shit show he called home for now. To be honest, it wasn’t the worse place he had slept in his life, but it wasn’t much better than the forest. He had come to this village a few months ago looking for someone and since being here he has done nothing but shit work for these people. Something that he could have stayed in the woods to do for his father. If he wasn’t planning on killing that man that is. After all, it was bad enough that he wasn’t allowed to eat people anymore. Well, at least not the citizens anyways. Everyone else was free game though, and that always helped him feel a little better. He was thinking that after today’s shit job he may go out into the woods and find something to drain, and if he was really lucky someone stupid enough to get lost off the trail.

He walked into the bank and saw that there was really nothing wrong with the place. The guys last night must have done most of the work already. Oh well, he wasn’t going to complain about it that was for sure. Plus the best part is that the job was happening at night. He wasn’t too fond of the sunlight not that it really hurt him or anything he just preferred to work at night when it was harder to see him. It was the main reason he didn’t mind living here in the mist village. Even in the day, the mists made it hard to see from a distance. Something that he really enjoyed. Since coming out of the woods he had mostly gotten used to the random bits of food walking around staring at him.

Once the last guy had left and handed Kain the keys to the place to lock up once he was done. Kain grabbed a broom and walked around pushing random bits of nothing. He knew this place had cameras and no matter how much he wanted to just say fuck it and sit down for a few hours before leaving he wouldn’t get paid for that. He pondered just how much his life had changed since coming here while pushing the broom. He never needed money before, if he wanted something he simply killed who or whatever it was that had it and took it. Now though he had to work and wait to get paid then give that money to someone else for what he wanted.

Having finished with the floor Kain walked from room to room gathering up the trash cans and emptying them in the big one he was rolling around with him. Before walking out back to the bank and hearing the all too familiar heartbeat of pray. Turning to see a young man standing on the corner of the bank Kain almost started to go and catch dinner when he stopped himself. The man saw the look in Kains eye’s and got the hell out of dodge. While Kain turned back to the trash a little upset that he was unable to follow his instincts.

With his work done for the night, Kain tossed the key on the desk and locked the door before leaving. He was hungry and it was time to go and find something to eat.

mission

Another day another stupid mission, and this time it’s to sweep sand off the walkways near the beach. Kain couldn’t believe this was actually happening. Were people really this stupid that they didn’t think that setting up a shop near the beach would not end with sand everywhere. It was times like these that he really wondered why the Mizukage wouldn’t let him eat these people. Did he want this level of stupid reproducing in his village, but at last it was not Kain’s call and he would go along with the norm. At least the sun was hidden by the mists today as well as the beach. Kain was not a very big fan of sand the stuff got everywhere and normally it mostly got in places most people didn’t want it.

Walking with his push broom down the path to get to the sand it hit Kain and he couldn’t help but laugh a little. Apparently, his laugh sent cold chills down the people near him back as they gave him a bit more room. He didn’t care really it had just hit him that he was a simi immortal being that lives on the blood of people, and he was here in broad daylight with a few people anyway knowing what he is, and sweeping sand of the paths for them. He wasn’t sure if anyone would get it but to him, it was like cleaning the fire before cooking his meal over it.

It didn’t take him long to get to the spot with the sand rolling up and over the dunes to get on the path. He quickly pushed it off to the side standing off the path so that he could get from one side to the other without building up a massive sand pile. The work was going fine till someone walked over behind him and threw sand down on the path and started laughing and pointing at Kain. Something that he could not let stand no matter where he was in life at the point. Without even thinking about it Kain had cleared the short distance between himself, the boy, and his friends.

Kain grabbed the boy by his throat and kept going over the sand dune where people couldn’t see him. The boy’s friends followed after and if they hadn’t Kain would have probably had drank the boy dry, as his fangs were but mear seconds from sinking into the boy’s throat. When his friends showed up and pulled Kain off of him. The boy and his friends all took off running for their lives calling Kain a freak among other names as they ran. He vaguely thought about what this might mean for him. After all, he was forbidden to feed on the people of the village, but at the same time, he technically didn’t feed on him. Either way, he just wouldn’t tell anyone about this and see if anything comes of it. If not the better for him, and if so he would be seeing that boy again soon after.

Kain walked back up and grabbed his broom and continued to push the sand off the path. This time nothing else happened and people tended to stay away from him and let him do his job.

mission

Today Kain had a job that for once he didn’t hate, sure it was still shit work, but it was shit work he didn’t mind doing. Kain was to go and pick up a wagon full of the best cuts of meat available and bring it to the prison for the dogs. Normally it would be something he saw beneath him but he liked dogs. He even once had a dog that is until he tried to turn it and found out it doesn’t work that way. He was pretty upset about the whole thing for a solid day or two. Then he got over it, but he still liked the animal and found it to be probably the best thing that humans had done. After all, they were loyal and trustworthy, and to kain that put them a few entire steps up above humans.

Kain arrived at the meatpacking plant and the wagon was waiting with the horses ready to go. He climbed up and got the horses going with ease. Another animal he thought was better than humans. Horses didn’t complain and would work non-stop for their master. Kain would arrive at the prison and throw down his cigarette before stepping on it while getting down. He had found living in this village full of tasty treats that smoking and drinking helped keep him from just attacking people.

The guard led Kain through the gates with his wagon and around back to the dog kennel. The dogs themselves were all riled up as Kain approached with the food on the wagon. “This might take a few minutes to get them all calmed down,” the guard told Kain.

Kain simply walked up to the gate where the dogs were pushing up against and growled showing his fangs as his eyes turned red from the increased blood flow and need to feed. The dogs calmed down and back away from the fence cowing in fear of Kain. The guard simply looked at Kain wanting to ask how he did that but too scared to know the answer. Kain opened the gate turning to look at the guard “They know there is a more scary monster around is all” is all kain told the guard before grabbing a crate and caring it in.

Inside of the prison, they kept the meat inside of an old cooler near the dog kennels. Kain simply opened the door and walked in sitting the create down on the ground. The guard told him that they would unpack it later, and Kain simply gave him a nod before turning around and walking back out to get the other creates. It didn’t take Kain very long to unload the wagon and walk back out to turn the horses and wagon around to take them back.

Kain gave the dogs one last look before he rode off to take the wagon back. Thankfully it wasn’t a long ride and he started to wonder just why they didn’t send someone that worked at the meat packing plant to do it since it was so close. However, he wasn’t going to turn down an easy job that let him hang with some dogs for a few minutes.

Kain had another mission of shit work. He was really starting to get tired of all the crappy jobs they kept giving him and was possible on the verge of snapping on the little old lady if she gave him another one tomorrow. After all, the only reason he was even doing these missions was to gain rank in the village and be able to use more of their stuff to help him find Selene. He was told the more missions he did the faster he would rank up and he needed to get to jounin before he was able to access any useful information on the village.

Kain kept his head down and walked through the mist contemplating his life decisions while he made his way to the shop. If he had just left the girl alone as his father told him he wouldn’t be in this situation and would still be free in the woods. However, he would also have never got to know Selene and left the woods to see the world. It was a trade-off that he could live with he decided if only because it showed him what kind of monster that his father was and what he didn’t want to be.

Finally arriving at the shop Kain walked in and went up to the counter where a little old man was standing and told him that he was here to help with the salt. The man nodded or at least Kain thought he nodded he was doing a lot of nodding and was only making Kain happy he wasn’t ever going to get old. One of the perks of being a near-immortal creature. The old man leads him to the back of the store to a carvaer belt where small glass bottles were coming out of full of salt. He explained that they had two of these machines and Kain was going to run the other one. It was very simple the bottles come out and Kain must simply make sure that they were not cracked or leaking and place them in the box. Once the box was full you stopped the machine and took the box over to the cart and someone would come by and empty the cart.

Kain nodded in understanding and walked over to the other machine. After being showed how to turn it on and off he took his position at the end of the belt and waited for the bottles to start showing up. The work was mind-numbing boring and Kain couldn’t wait to finish this job. What felt like days standing behind the belt was at best a few hours, and to make matters worse he was only halfway done. Part of him wanted to break the machine so he could go, but he didn’t want to risk someone seeing and them not paying him after he had made it this long. Plus he could think of it as training in how to stay focused.

After another couple of hours of drool-inducing work, Kain had finally packed all his boxes full of salt. He made his way out and swore never to take this job again.
