A Miner Mishap [Enrai]

A small frown could be seen on the face of The Assassin as he gazed at the job notice that he had been assigned today… Usually he wouldn’t take on a job that was beyond his skill-set, but thankfully he knew Enrai, who was quite possibly the perfect person for this job. He wasn’t dead weight at least, as his Byakugan would allow him to instruct Enrai on where any survivors were, and what areas looked too unstable… but when it came to the actual completion of the mission, that was all on Mister Stitches. Honestly, after this he may need to put a bit more effort into learning some Ninjutsu, solely so that he could be more well rounded… but at the same time, he was really interested in Fuinjutsu… and there was no way he’d be able to split his attention between so many different arts and perform all of them effectively.

The Hyuuga could be seen sitting in the bar of the Outer Heaven inn, the job notice sitting on the table in front of him, and what remained of a rather pleasant breakfast sitting on a plate, with a pitcher of iced water with slices of lemon sitting further away and to the left. He had sent a message to Enrai letting him know that he’d found a nice job for the two of them, and asked the man to meet him here in roughly 10 minutes, so he had a little time to kill. With an easy smile Shin would nod to The Boss and stand, the grizzled older merc giving him a little nod of his own as The Assassin picked up the plate he’d cleaned off and moved towards the back of the bar. Usually he’d not be allowed back here, but The Boss knew him and had at least a passing level of respect for him, so he allowed the younger and less experienced merc to go into the back rooms to deliver the plate to be cleaned. A few moments later Shin would emerge and make his way back to his table, where he would simply sit and wait, enjoying the rather refreshing pitcher of the lemon water as he waited for Enrai.

Enrai was in a pretty good mood right now, as they would be getting another chance to get a mission and earn a bunch of extra money. He had no idea what he was going to be doing today, but Shin had sent him a letter detailing simply that they had a great opportunity and a mission that was perfect for him, so he was happy to go out there. He enjoyed Suna, although he was annoyed at how hot it was, but there was something about the area that made him like it. It seemed a bit free-spirited and happy, although there were quite a few people here that would easily stab you in an alley if they thought that they could get away with it. They would of course relinquish your valuables off of you, so that there was no waste, so at least the people around here were environmentally friendly, piecing you out so that you did not even have a skeleton left. All things were valuable in the sand village.

Enrai was making his way out into the large field of the desert that was swelteringly hot, but he did not really feel any pain from it, just the heat, and so it was much more bearable for him. Especially because he had plenty of water on him. He made his way to what was essentially a dive bar for mercenaries in the area, and he knew the place because of Shin. He was a mercenary of course, but he was definitely pretty new and green as it were when it came to that sort of thing. He had been to the bar once or twice, but there was definitely no one that really knew him, although some people were going to remember him being a bit too happy for the grizzled mercenaries in the bar. He just hoped he would not have to kill anyone in the bar.

As he made it to the bar, he stepped in and immediately saw a bunch of eyes on him for a moment, some of them simply looking away in disinterest, and some of them stayed on him, seemingly to gauge how he was. He of course ignored all of this and walked over to the table that Shin was at, before saying hello to him. “Heya Shin, what are we doing today? I got your letter.” Enrai would say with a big grin. He was far too happy go lucky for the people that were in there, and they simply looked at him weird. It even seemed like a couple of them wanted to test him in a more physical manner, but Enrai was oblivious to this and simply walked over to his friend and asked them what they were doing. It would be great to start the mission as soon as possible, as Enrai wanted that money.

Shin would give a light grin as he watched Enrai enter the bar, his Byakugan allowing him to see the reactions of all the patrons to the stitched and scarred man. Some simply went back to their business, others kept their wary eyes on him… but the happy go lucky man simply ignored them and zeroed in on him. Shin would give a light nod at the mans greeting, before getting straight to business.

“Found a nice looking mission for the two of us if you’re interested, a mine shaft collapsed and has left a bunch of miners trapped… but more importantly, has halted the mining operation.”

However, before he could continue, The Boss would chime in from his place behind the bar, all the while polishing off a glass with a clean white rag

“You’re a bit late for that job kid, the stink that came from this was large enough that The Ragdoll himself went out and fixed it.” He would say, his voice just as gruff as his face looked.

“Oh… well shit… that was one of the only jobs I saw on the notice board and there were a fair few people there. I doubt we’ll get another one… damn, I’m sorry Enrai, looks like I’ve wasted your time.” The Assassin would say with a somewhat sheepish smile as he rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand.

Enrai and Shin had just gotten to where they were supposed to go when someone told them a bit of shocking and bad news. It seemed that they would not be able to do the mission that they were supposed to. Sadly someone called the Ragdoll had taken it. Enrai had not been in Suna long enough for him to know who that was, even if they turned out to be really famous. He assumed that the person that was referred to only by a nickname was some sort of legendary figure around here, especially because whoever it was could simply take the mission away from them. He wondered if it was because they were not official parts of the village that the mission was simply taken from them, but there was nothing that they could do about it, so he decided to simply shrug it off and head out.

This was when Shin apologized and said that the mission that was just taken from them was basically the only one on the mission board, and that he had wasted Enrai’s time. “Ehh it’s fine. I guess I’ll go train or something. Thanks anyways, I’ll see you next time.” Enrai would casually say, not really bothered by the events, as there was always something to do, and what he had said about the training was correct, he could always use more of that. He figured that he should go and train up a few things before he had to defend himself again.
