It takes him a couple of moments to realize that, yes, he was being spoken to. He looks up from his lab report before replying. "Oh? These are notes! Mostly. It's important to keep track of exactly how much liquid nitrogen was used. While I can't exactly measure the blast radius, I can probably make projections based on the material of the bomb casing." a pause, and he scratches his chin with the pen. A few lines of ink are left behind. "The rest is a grocery list. I, uh. Accidentally left the fridge open back at the house, and my guardian would be pissed if she ever found out."

He nods at the succinct explanation. "Fortunately, she won't be home until around three, so I have time to mess around a bit." he makes another scribble onto the paper, but this time, it resembles a drawing more than anything else. A large question mark is placed at the end. Goro pauses for a moment, looking up. "Actually, what time is it?"

The genin looks around the room, finding a small quartz clock above the exit to the room. The object innocuously read two fifteen. Oh fuck.

"SORRY GOTTA GO ENJOYED MEETING YOU BYE." He secures the liquid nitrogen as carefully as possible- lab safety was important!- before practically sprinting out of the room.

The container would probably be temporarily deposited in one of Murata's closets, but hopefully, she wouldn't mind.

Raising an eyebrow at Goro’s response to his query, Koutaku watched closely as the Chemist seemed to sketch out a diagram of some sort, before putting a question mark at the end. ‘How incredibly arcane,’ thought the young shinobi, still totally unable to decipher the inscrutable markings of his peer. Shaking his head fractionally, Koutaku pulled away from the notebook that he’d been reading almost over Goro’s shoulder. Glancing up he once more regarded the result of Goro’s experiment, considering the possible applications of the substance for several long moments before his companion asked after the time.

Glancing up at the clock just after Goro did, Koutaku noted the sudden shift in body language--and then expression and demeanor--of the Chemist right before the young man jumped into motion and then said his farewells, swiftly making his exit.

Koutaku just smirked slightly and gave the intriguing fellow a bit of a wave as he departed. Shaking his head once more and letting out a small chuckle, Koutaku walked across the room and set it up once more via the console so that he could meditate in the position he’d been in prior to Goro’s arrival.

His clones on the other hand dispersed with the use of a single handseal, seeming somewhat disgruntled for having been summoned all for nothing. Koutaku on the other hand jumped back into his chosen stonecast tree and sat down cross-legged as he withdrew his wakizashi and stabbed it into a level portion of the stone tree trunk before him. Focusing on it, the young shinobi would once more channel chakra into the blade. Concentrating on his chakra and the metal before him he’d begin layering it as he’d been attempting earlier.

Closing his eyes, Koutaku envisioned the chakra folding on itself even as it left his body and shrouded the blade. Gradually as the minutes ticked on, the blade ceased simply to glow and became an effulgent beacon. Noting the glare even through his eyelids, his brow furrowed, sweat running down his face, Koutaku refocused his efforts. He began to twist the flow patterns of the chakra into strange almost spiral-like shapes. As the chakra folded along the new set of twisting patterns, the light dimmed to a manageable degree.

Experimentally, Koutaku opened his eyes and placed his hand on the grip of his blade, pulling it from the stone-crafted tree. He felt a faint pulsing, almost a vibration, from the weapon’s core. Curious, he moved the blade through the air in a slow slash-like motion. Portions of the chakra dragged behind the blade, and the air in front of it warped slightly.

“Fascinating,” he whispered in a sort of quiet reverence. Then, rather suddenly, Koutaku slashed at one of the great branches of the stone tree. The metal struck the stone and the chakra carried forth into it, tearing a huge, wide gash. Still, given the amount of chakra it had taken, it didn’t seem quite worth the effort.

Clearly, there was more work to do.

Koutaku rose, sheathed his blade, and reset the room on his way out. Deep in thought, he’d make his way from the Military Training Facility, pondering how else he could alter the technique he was gradually developing.
