Fishing at Gaikotsu Bay [Fishing Tournament]
Sat Apr 30, 2022 7:36 pm
Upon a 20 foot high pier that over looked the bay stood, Katsuragi. At last, the traveling duo arrived to the fishing event. The pier was quite a build. It was attachd to an even higher cliff, built on to it with a set of grand stairs that led out towards the lower pier filled with entertainment. There were quite a few contestants, many from other lands judging by their accents. Maybe Tanbogakure wasn’t that backwater as he thought. Katsuragi merely stumbled upon it. But, if it’s on the map then maybe the place still had a chance at growing.
Despite all that, with recent events, their were major players involved. He even noticed a few members of the Zukumiki family here, their faces however were not familiar, so the chances of them figuring out Katsuragi were skil to none. But enough about all that, it was time to fish.
Katsuragi's attire consisted of a thin black polyester jacket, which underneath he wore a solid sleeveless navy blue shirt. His belt, designer's choice, had a MK emblem as a buckle. The pants he wore were a fresh pair of black stretch jeans. His boots on his feet also being solid black of a leather material with an emblem labeled "EU", it's made of metal stitched to the tongue of the boots. His hair, still vivid, was a solid dark purple. His hair would have went in contrast with his pale skin, however, his arms torso and hands bore a mural of mostly assorted prison tattoos; all black ink in color. He himself stood at a height of 6'2 feet with a thin frame. His tools and such were all assorted evenly along his attire, given no hint to their whereabouts yet allowed him easy access with a little bit of technique.
FrostCrown was with him as well.
After checking in, he made a quick stop towards the supply booth for a few things. Even he had to admit that arriving to a fishing event with no rod was pretty dumb. Reluctantly, he purchased a fishing rod and bait all at hiked up prices. With no where else to buy fishing supplies, he was pretty much screwed.
Finally ready, he found himself a decent spot on the pier, he looks over the wooden rails, eyeing the deep sky blue waters below. He placed FrostCrown agains the rail with the hilt pointed towards the sky. Setting up, he cocks the reel back above him. The bait of his choice, pre cut octipus. Fish went nuts for this sort of thing. Atleast, that was what he heard while doing time in Pelican Island.
He finally cast his line outwards, into the bay. Would he catch something?

The view was rather nice. From this standpoint, one was overlooking the Gaikotsu Bay, the side of the ocean which bordered along Rice Country. A sea of blue stretching onward for miles upon end, until it would be met with horizon; also a blue color, but it’s hues more light. A mix of grey and white clouds freckled the gentle sky, but no sign of any rain or inclement weather which would’ve had the potential to ruin the relaxing sensation brought about by the tournament. While things were still competitive, the air was still calm. No one was too rowdy, lest they wanted to disturb the very creatures in which they were about to attempt to collect.
Fish.
That was the reason why Hiko and his newly found buddy Katsuragi were sighted out this way. The two needed money, and an amazing opportunity of a possible 25k Ryo had landed in their laps, as if sent by the gods themselves. But, the path to hell was paved with good intentions, and this task would be much easier said then done. Who knows how many other contenders would be in the running for this same prize, so much of it came down to how lucky the two were able to be. The Shimadan would need all the luck he could get in this instance too, for fishing wasn’t necessarily his strong suit. Things that required patience in general tended to not blend well with the deviant. But hey, it never hurt to try, so try he would.
Following after his comrade, the pair would make their way over to first grab the necessary supplies in which they needed to do this; fishing rods, lures, bait, etc, etc. Once this quick fix was all done and out of the way, they would then find an ample spot away from anyone else to actually do the fishing. It was a high point, maybe about 5 or 6 meters above the water’s surface. Turning to his right, Hiko would notice that almost immediately Kat had begun his process of trying to snag a prize. Low and behold, a few moments later, he was indeed successful in reeling out a tiger koi, it’s scales still glistening from the liquid it was pulled from. A small catch, but it was still a catch at the end of the day. Seeing this, the boy in the brown, tattered patchwork cloak was determined to make his mark on this competition.
So, he set out to put the work in. Using a more simple form of bait, a wriggling worm, Hiko Shimada placed it upon the hook. It would still squirm a little as it would pierce through the dull pink body of the insect. Praying for something good, he would then cast the line out towards the sea, hopeful that a bite would occur.

Keeping the reel steady within the clear blue water, it was all a matter of waiting now. Which is precisely what Hiko would at least attempt to do. Producing an elongated pipe from his pocket, the shinobi would then proceed to fill it up with a mash of tobacco leaves. Lighting it, he’d take a long inhale, the smoke proceeding to fill his mouth and lungs. Taking it out, the auburn haired kid would then exhale with a sigh of relief as well. ”Want some?” He would then say, offering the pipe to his travel companion. Whether the offer would be accepted or declined, his left hand would still be grasping on to the fishing pole, waiting for a bite to occur.
Seconds began to turn into minutes, and the fellow started to get a bit agitated with the fish, or lack there of rather. This expression also began to waiver upon his visage, a bittered look of expression denotating within the mouth and eyes; nose crinkling ever so slightly upwards in disgust as the brows also began to raise. Little indents ran along the top of the boy’s forehead, clearly indicating some form of frustration within this moment.
And then, there was a tug.
Gazing downwards, eyeing up the bobber, Hiko would see that it was slowly yet surely being gently pulled into the ocean. At last! A bite was finally successful! With the frown now alleviating back into a smirk, he hastily begun to reel in the line. The fish however, had other plans. It fought against this. It too was tugging, trying to swim away rapidly from being pulled out. ”Come on.” He would mumble to himself, trying to force it out from the waters below. Maybe a bit too aggressively; for after a moment of resistance from the fish, the line started to go taut. Then, in that same instance, there was a snapping sound, and the line had broken free from the rod. Just his luck, his catch had unfortunately managed to swim away due to this happening. A rather unfortunate series of events for him, but Hiko still wouldn’t let this get the best of him. Better luck next time, surely. After all, what were the odds that it would happen twice in a row?

It was, a start. Katsuragi was seen holding the fish by the hook lodged in it’s jaw. He seemed displeased by the size, barely any meat on its bones to complete with the rest of the catches. Thus, after removing the hook, he flings the koi back into the bay. He mutters nonsense about how small the koi was, he really wanted that cash money grand prize.
Hiko on the other hand wasnt so lucky, not catch at all. He’d hope he atleast catch something. The two needed to pull their own weight if they had any chance at winning this thing. He takes a look around once again, noticing the amount of equipment the other folk had. They were pros; the tools, the skill, the training, they had it all. Something needed to be done...but what?
His train of thought was cut off, the tau offering Katsuragi a hit from what seemed like an old man’s pipe. The smell of it pushed him away, it smelled like tobacco; something he wasnt in the mood for.
“The fuck, nah man i’m good. Didn’t I tell you I brought some of the good stuff...”, he places his reel down and pulls out a prerolled herb stick of his own after passing on the offer. The brown wrapping was teeming with a joyful scent, mellow to the nose and enlightening to the brain. After lighting it, he takes a pull from it. His cheeks flush with joy, “Now see here, this is the peace we should be passing around, young grasshoppa”, he said with a snobbish chuckle. He would gladly pass it along to Hiko if he wanted. Either way, he need to get to work. So once again, he cocks back the fishing rod, and casts off.
“Oh, one more thing! That money I gave you for the spot, you handled all that right? I mean, I know we need a place to do business but really, a cave?

From one mishap to the next, Hiko’s mood only went from bad to worse. First there was the problem of going through the steps to catch the fish. The long and tedious work in which it took. Next was the whole fact that the catch didn’t even happen; the damned fish had snapped the young teen’s fishing line. Taking a long inhale on his own smoking pipe, he would nod in both a response to Kat declining the offer, and Kat’s own offer of his good stuff. Setting his down, he’d grab it from the hand which was handing it over. Then he’d take a good hit of it before redoing the fishing line. The hit itself wasn’t too big to where it seemed like he was hogging it, but it was certainly long enough to where the one alone would be good enough to do the job. After which, he’d hand it back over to it’s owner. As for the last comment made by his compatriot, he would give the answer ”It’s being handled as we speak. And it’s much easier to hide illicit activities in a spot which could hardly be found, city boy. That’s why the cave was chosen, much easier and better off this way. Unless you’d rather get caught and face, what would most likely be, a huge fine. Think of the ryo we’d lose.”
While the fishing rod was being set back up, an idea had occurred within the mind of the Shimadan boy. There was a much easier way to go about doing this. The rules never specifically stated anything that the fish had to be caught with a rod. So, Hiko decided to do things this next time around the old fashioned way. Setting the fishing rod to the side, resting it up upon the railing which guarded the one side of the pier, he would all of a sudden proceed to take off his cloak. This would be the first time that someone else would see him without it on. The lad had on just a plain brown shirt which was tattered at the bottom, but done so in a way were it looked intentional; it certainly wasn’t because of age or anything, just adding an extra bit of grit to the style. As for pants, he was wearing just regular black shorts, a sweatpant like material. Hiko would refrain from undressing any further though, indecency in that sense wasn’t really his thing.
At this point, that was when the missing Kumogakuren had simply took a plunge down into the ocean. Running towards the open end of the pier, he’d jump into the water. From there, the task was a bit more straight forward. All that was left to do now was actually catching a fish with his bare hands.
