Up and at em early in the morning Yusuke woke up bright and chipper for the day ahead. Today he was stepping in for an instructor at the Hoshigakure no Sato Ninja Academy, and Yusuke was practically howling with excitement. Ever since he had cleaned up the E Rank Mission Board he was getting special requests by higher ups. The ninja force was begining to develop respect for Yusuke, and today was a marker of it. When Yusuke got out of bed he marked it on the calendar and yawned real loudly, waking up his canine companion Rudi. Rudi crawled out of bed and let himself out by the sliding glass door, he was more than big enough to slide it open.
While Rudi was taking care of his business, Yusuke was preparing his own. First thing in the morning he liked to get a brew of coffee going, and so he did just that. As the coffee was dripping Yusuke opened the fridge and grabbed three eggs. He set them on the table to cook once he had gotten a taste of coffee; and a cigarette of course. The two were best paired in the morning, the robust coffee sticking to the inside of his mouth with menthol smoke. Yusuke poured from the half full pot and as he sat down he lit himself an Allport cigarette. Taking a sip Yusuke prepared his mind for what would be next.
Before the master ate his companion was given his food, and so before Rudi came in Yusuke got back up from the dining room table and opened a can of organic dog food from the pantry. He stopped it in then set the bowl back on the floor for Rudi to find. When the good boy came inside he went straight to his bowl.
Yusuke liked the quietness and enjoyed the last of his cigarette before putting it out in the star shaped ashtray on the wooden table. Yusukes mother had gifted it to him, herself a smoker. It was one of Yusukes most treasured objects, and while thinking about it Yusuke found himself going over his nindo. So often he found himself pivoting on the way of his heart as a ninja.
"With great power, comes great responsibility." Yusuke whispered and took another sip of coffee. He wondered if any kids would ask him about his nindo. Lately it became too real that the younger generation wasn't thinking of words meant to keep the path straight. Yusuke wondered what this new generation would ask of him, then he finished his first cup of coffee.
Walking back into hisnroom Yusuke got dressed, wearing his usual baggy pants with boots and an orange gi. His arm protectors were firmly wrapped around his furry arms, and Yusuke made sure his belt was perfectly tri knotted. He looked ready for the day, then went to sit at the table for another cigarette and cup of coffee. As he did so Rudi finished his food and sat next to Yusuke in the chair.
The two began talking, discussing their plans for today's lesson with the kids. Rudi planned to patrol the desktops, walking around making sure everyone was not cheating during the long exam. Fortunately for the kids their instructor had only left the exam up to Yusuke and the kids would get five hours of Yusuke's choice.
Yusuke and Rudi decided first they would get the kids outside to practice their maneuverability in difficult terrain. Yusuke found this to be one of his favorite tasks in the academy, and it would kill two hours between all thirty two of the children. After that kids would come back inside and read as a group from their text book. That would leave the class an hour for recess, and lastly to round the day up they would get a free hour to ask Yusuke questions about life as a shinobi. Rudi and his master figured this would be a fun day for everyone, and the two raced off to the Academy.
Yusuke won by a hair. For a smoker he was long winded and fast, Rudi rarely caught up to him. The dog was in prime form this morning, but it just wasn't enough. When Yusuke got to the Academy he was given an Instructor badge and guided to his room. The number was Room sixty one, and the class was in full attendance in this day.
Yusuke started off with a quick review of the material their history test would be on, then Rudi began roaming the desks. The kids had a devilishly long essay to write so watching them would be imperative to keep from cheating. Yusuke sat at the teachers desk, eyeing everyone up and Rudi was in the trenches.
Everything went good, there were no cheaters. Rudi was itching to bark and scare the life out of someone, but it wasn't to be. Disappointed he returned to Yu's heel by the desk.
After the test, as planned, Yusukentook the kids outside to practice their parkour on the Academy equipment. The kids leapt over all sorts of terrain, climbed ropes, jumped over obstacles and some even practiced their Water Walking Technique. Yusuke was proud to see the kids performing so well and when he brought them inside they had worked up quite the sweat.
Now it was time to read and once the kids caught their breath they did so. Yusuke could spot the most prodigal students, and the clowns too. It was interesting to be reminded of his time at the Academy by just reading on the benefits of defensive battle formations.
When the kids went to recess Yusuke graded their exams for the teacher, his lightning quick eye spotting the wrong answers so easily. While he did so Yusuke gently reminisced on his time in the academy and what it was like to be so Naive. These kids had no idea what service really meant as a shinobi, but Yusuke was confident at least a few of them would learn.
When the kids come back inside they had an hour left to interrogate their up till then mysterious substitute teacher. They asked Yusuke about Rudi, and the Inuzuka Clan. There were no pups in the group so the kids were fairly ignorant of Yu's family business. Yusuke had fun telling them about that, and then they asked him about combat experience. Yusuke told the kids about his most recent capture of a thief and all the kids ooh'd and ahh'd.
The day had gone just perfectly for Yusuke and when he left he felt really proud of hisbeork on that day. Yusuke and Rudi walked home casually, talking to each other about the kids, the lessons and their own memories of their time at the academy. It was a good day.
