Genin Exams

The Exam:

Today was finally the day it seemed. Canary awoke in her bed covered with her blanket that had the Hidemori family crest on it, she pushed it off her and got out of bed to start her day. Which it was one of the more important ones that she was going to have to do, It was the day of her Genin Exam. An exam that would test her various Shinobi abilities and if found worthy she would graduate from the academy and become a full fledge member of the Shinobi Force in Tanbogakure. It was a step up for the young girl and it was one she felt she was more then ready for, though if she said she wasn’t nervous she would be lying.
Taking a deep breath Canary went about her typical morning routine of cleaning  herself and putting on her school clothes though today she wore an outfit that was more for ease of movement and fighting in mind instead of one where she knew she would be inside most of the day like usual. Once Canary had ate her breakfast she said goodbye to her parents and dashed out the door towards the academy, the village was a buzz with the most recent election of the new Komekage Emi Tanaka a young girl who had put her own name on the last election and somehow had won. It took the village by storm causing the normal citizens to stir and grumble some people not caring and others unsure of the village’s security.
 
Canary had thoughts on the matter but none of immense importance beyond wondering if she could someday be the deputy to the Kage as that would be as close to her dream as she could become in this age. Though she pushed those dreams out of her mind as she grew close to the Academy building which could barely be called that here in Tanbogakure. It was just a step above an old farm house that had been remodeled into a school of sorts. You could still see plenty of old farm equipment on the property which was used as obstacles and target practice from time to time for the students.
 
Going inside the building she was greeted by the various teachers and fellow students that were also arriving some of them scheduled to take the same exam as Canary today. Her own nervousness grew as she got closer to her classroom but she didn’t let it stop her from continuing she entered the classroom and took her seat awaiting for the class to start as normal. While she waited Canary went over the different handseals for the techniques she was going to need to show proficiency in among some other basic skills and abilities. The two techniques are the Clone Technique which allowed a person to make a clone of themselves as if it was a second person though these couldn’t really do much beyond look like the person and sometimes people could get them to do simple movements and speech but beyond that it was more to confuse the enemies. The other Technique that she needed to show skill with was called the Transformation Technique, another jutsu that’s name told you what it did. This allowed you to transform into other things your own size and smaller it was good for hiding and the such and was one that kind of came harder then usual for the young girl.
 
The teacher didn’t take long to enter the classroom and went about the normal day routine of attendance and checking their notes as needed. “Today we will be holding the Genin Exams, You will be tested on physical ability with the obstacle course and the usage of the Clone Technique and the Transformation Technique.” They announced to the class as they looked the students over, “IF you are unable to perform up to par you will be failed and can always try again next time we hold the exams. Those of you who pass will become full members of the Tanbogakure Shinobi Force as a Genin and while it may be the lowest rank on the totem pole it is a very important starting point that all Shinobi have started at.” They concluded as they directed the class outside for the obstacle course portion of the exam. This was something that didn’t really bother the young Hidemori as she cleared the course within the time limit just behind the first group in placing. She wasn’t standing out so far but she certainly wasn’t lacking compared to the rest of the students.
 
Now came the part that she was unsure how she would do, the actual usage of the jutsus that they had been taught earlier in the year and had practiced more times then she could count on both her hands and toes on her feet. It was time to either sink or fail as she heard the teacher call in each student individually to perform their techniques in front of a panel of other teachers who varied in rank from the lowest being a Chunnin and the highest being a Jounin. Eventually it was her turn as the teacher called out her name, “Canary Hidemori!”
 
Canary jumped up and tried to walk naturally as she entered the room and felt like a frog in front of group of snakes that looked very annoyed with having to be here though that was more how she perceived the teachers while they themselves were plenty happy to see the growth of the children of the village and some of the talents that were already showing. “You may begin with either the Transformation or Clone Technique Canary.” A teacher with dark skin said.
 
Canary took a deep breath and decided she would start with the jutsu she was most nervous about, she figured the quicker she got the worst out of the way the better off she would be. The handsigns couldn’t be easier for the jutsu as it only required a Single one “Dog”. Canary closed her eyes and felt for the chakra inside her just like she had been taught to mold and bend to her will. She waited till she was sure it was how she needed it for a successful. She pictured the dog her neighbor had, its soft white fur, the black paw pads and clipped claws, the intelligent eyes of a creature that understood your words a tail that wagged with enough energy to uncurl it. She formed the handsign Dog and in a puff of smoke she opened her eyes the world looked different, bigger and strange. The teachers she had been in front of stared at her with mutual nods along the group. “Wonderful choice for the transformation, you must have spent much time with this creature.” One teacher pointed out. Canary smiled well as much a smile she could muster as a dog. She undid the transformation and it was like a weight was lifted from her shoulders.
 
“Now then lets see your Clone Technique.” Canary was urged to proceed and she did so much more confident in herself then prior channeling chakra easier and quicker then prior forming the “Ram” Handsign and standing next to her was another well Canary. It was as perfect as it had been in all her prior practice attempts and they both smiled at the same time with the teachers joining. “Very good Canary Congratulations. You have passed the Genin Exams.” One of the teachers praised the young girl. “You are now a full fledged Shinobi of the Village and will be given a Headband to symbolize such along with a weekly stipend of 500 ryo. You are free to do what you wish.” Another said as they handed Canary her own Shinobi Headband that bore the crest of Tanbogakure.
 
Canary wore a smile that she swore had to be reaching from ear to ear but she did her best to calm herself down to present a professional appearance and with a bow she exited the room and ran home to celebrate with her family on her graduation and promotion.
