These questions are tough.. I should have started preparing earlier.. Saturn through to himself as he looked at the paper, with his elbows on the table and his hands folded, his fingers interlocked. A nervous sweat made its way down his brow from under his white knit cap before he wiped it off. He looked around at the proctors who wandered the exam hall with their keen eyes not seeming to linger off for one second. Around him, familiar faces and new ones sat looking either equally stressed out or as cool as a cucumber. He noticed that most of the faces in the building seemed younger than his own. That was to be expected, Saturn Sentobi had not started his journey into shinobihood until he was already in his late teens. By the time he earned the title of Genin, he was already twenty years old. The clock was ticking for Saturn. However, he was ambitious. He had heard of the higher pay handed out to Chuunin when compared to Genin, and immediately had set his eyes on his next goal. If there were limited spots available, his beloved friends would have to wait for their day in the Sun. He would do whatever it takes to get his hands on a Chuunin Flak Jacket.
A proctor who seemed suspicious of the Genin made eye contact with Saturn and he averted his gaze, looking off in the distance, appearing to think very hard.
This was only the first phase of the Chuunin Exam. There had to be a battle stage. It was inevitable. Saturn's mind lingered on the idea, he was thinking ahead. He wondered who he would have to face in his trials and tribulations that lay ahead. It would suck to have to go head to head with one of his close friends. Even if that were the case, his friends were ruthless. Goro could knock out a grown brown bear with a single punch. Moyasu had mastery over fire release, his scorching hot flames were hotter than any he had seen. That did not account for the massive dragon that he had under his command. He shuddered at the memory of Jun Shibasaki slicing through the limbs of bandits with his laser eyes. Imagery of Baruga's gruesome handling of Captain Bartholomew came to mind soon after. In both cases, the spilled organs and rotten flesh that he witnessed were gross and rancid. There were also some faces that he had not seen in a while, such as that of Karo Yogan, slicing his way through rebels with his raiton infused bones. Rizuke and Majima had not been seen since Saturn left them at the Haunted Mayberry Mansion somewhere around halloween. Then there was that ghastly looking Yokye, who had quite a few missions under his belt but Saturn had at the most seen him whack a flying tombstone without incurring any damage.
He gulped before picking up his pen. At least he was getting paid to take part.
Q&A:
1. Why did you become a shinobi?
I became a shinobi to pay the rent, and feed my horse at the time.
2. If you weren't a shinobi, what would you be?
I would be an Astrologist.
3. What are your morals and values?
.... [refer below, scenario 2]
4. What are your strengths and weaknesses and how/where could you further improve?
Strengths: Speed, Chakra control
Weaknesses: Raw strength, chakra capacity
I must improve by playing to my strengths and learning more useful techniques that I can use with my abilities.
5. Who are the Gods that are worshipped in Kumogakure?
Raijin and Fujin
6. What is Kumogakure's philosophy?
The philosophy of Kumogakure is "Fuck around and find out."
7. You were discovered by the enemy and risk failing your mission, will you run/fight/surrender?
Fight, but never at the cost of failing my mission.
8. You are leading a team of inexperienced Genin on a dangerous mission. Trying to complete it also means risking getting everyone killed, what do you do?
Protecting the lives of young Genin is the most valuable mission that can be completed, and thus I would not try to complete a mission that would get a team under my command killed without fail.
9. Two complete strangers are about to die, you can only save one. What are the options you can take and who will you save?
I would save whoever has a purple froggy wallet, or whoever has more ryo in their froggy wallet
10. If you could choose your own destiny, where would you end up?
I would occupy a respectable position within the village and be given important and meaningful responsibilities, and be actively making a positive difference within the community. I would have lots of ryo and be popular with the village girls.
- Situation 1:
You are sent on a recon mission as a scout to investigate and potentially infiltrate the target. Describe your course of actions throughout the mission.
Saturn Sentobi, the psychic ninja and self proclaimed fortune teller extraordinaire, was sent on a recon mission as a scout to investigate and potentially infiltrate a peculiar target. He had learned through his many missions that a faction of bandits were actively conspiring against the village. He knew that his unique set of abilities would be put to the test once again, but this was nothing new to him, and he was confident that he could handle whatever the mission threw at him.
His grand plan would begin with a block of cheese. He waited patiently in a quiet and secluded alley, ways from the enemy's camp until it was dark. When a hungry rodent came sniffing for the mouldy block of cheese that he had deliberately littered, Saturn acted quickly, weaving Tiger, Snake and Horse to use Mind Body Switch technique on the little creature, possessing its body. It was a good thing that he had signed Monkey, Snake, Horse then Bird just prior, to duplicate his mind with Mind Clone Switch Technique, and thus avoided falling unconscious when a part of his mind left his own bodily vessel to hijack that of the rodent.
He waited in the bushes, just outside of the enemy's camp, hidden with two techniques, the combination of which was a tried and tested method: Hiding with Camouflage and Chakra Nullification. Next, he made the big toothed rodent burrow into the ground, carving a narrow tunnel right into the middle of the huddled group of tents beyond the hill. He creeped into the tents of sleeping bandits, and tickled their feet carefully so as to not wake them. Using Psycho Mind Transmission from his new rodent vessel, he was quickly able to gain intel on the whereabouts of the group leader within the camp. There was only one problem. The leader had taken refuge in a treehouse that they had built within their camp, and rodents were not very good at climbing trees. This was barely a deterrent to the crafty shinobi. Acting almost immediately, he looked up at the full moon to pray. Right on cue, he spotted the shadow of an owl, coming down to swoop his rodent body for dinner. In the nick of time, he would abort his rodent body, and let his mind enter the body of the owl, a direct transfer without contact with his original body, still safe in the bushes while he piloted his toys one after the other. With his new wings, he could fly up to the leader's treehouse and land right on his balcony.
He peeked in through the open window to see a grey haired man with a scarred face, staring back at him with cold blue eyes. Undeterred, he hooted naturally, just like a normal owl would. The man laughed, and made his way over to the bird, amused by its singing. Still unfazed, the owl hooted once again, and landed on the man's forearm upon his beckoning. With physical contact now established, using Psycho Mind Transmission once again was an easy task for the fortuneteller. Before he could investigate the man's plans in depth, however, the man himself would reveal them nonchalantly. After all, it was just an owl he was speaking to, or so he thought as he rambled on in his slumber. "And that's where all the camps are, and these are the names of the leaders. These are our assets, and those are our weaknesses, and that's how we'll turn Kumogakure upside down."
Having learned all he had to learn, Saturn released the bird from his vice mental grip, causing it to splatter its droppings on the leader's balcony in shock. It would be briefly shot with a crossbow in retaliation, but it was a small price to pay for the safety of the village and the townsfolk.
- Situation 2:
Case A (Using powers)
Shit.. Morals? Values? Saturn was stuck, looking into his paper drawing blanks. He looked up at the large clock on the wall. The clock was ticking. It had been years since he stopped to reflect on these ideas. The words seemed to have no meaning. His motivation had been driven completely by his own self interest. He was too busy taking care of himself and putting food on the table and a roof over his head. He trusted his gut and heart to make morally correct decisions for him, and did not consider himself to be an immoral character. Yet, he could not articulate his morals or values with words. He made eye contact with the proctor and looked away, before looking down at his paper when he saw a little buzzing mosquito land on the sheet. To him, it was a sign from God.
He put his head down, and rolled his eyes into the back of his skull. In a split second, the mosquito came to attention. The buzzing insect fluttered its wings and buzzed around the room. At his table, Saturn seemed inconspicuous, as though he was moving his pen. From the million lenses of the mosquito, Saturn could see the answers of his peers as he buzzed past them. It was difficult to read at first, but at this point in time after having possessed bears, vultures, ostriches, owls, cats, sharks and dragonflies to name a few, he was acclimated to perceiving the world accurately through borrowed senses. He read the answer written by his teammate Goro:
Having morals or values as a shinobi is dangerous. But my nindo per se is if someone messes with my family here in the Cloud, they are messing with me and I'll give them hell.
He buzzed past Moyasu's paper, scanning for the same answer.
I wish to protect the village and improve upon it's military strength so that we can remain the powerful village we have been for the last few centuries. My dreams lie with the village and they have grown into goals that becoming a Chunin will help me achieve and accomplish everything I want as well as all that my leaders want.
As the proctor moved past his desk, he released his mental grip on the insect and came back fully into his body. The answers of his peers gave him little inspiration. He did not resonate with their answers, but it was perhaps enough to work with. He pondered on their responses, and noted that they were both extremely patriotic. He decided to fall in line.
Patriotism is the most important value. My morals align with giving back to the village that has taken care of me since childhood.
Case B (Without using powers)
Shit.. Morals? Values? Saturn was stuck, staring blankly at the paper in front of him, trying to come up with an answer to the question about morals and values that had been posed to him. He couldn't remember the last time he had stopped to really think about these concepts and the words seemed to have lost their meaning to him. His motivation for everything he did had been driven solely by his own self-interest, he was too busy trying to take care of himself and provide for himself to stop and consider the morality of his actions. He had always trusted his gut and heart to guide him in making the right decisions and had never considered himself to be an immoral person. However, now, as he sat there staring at the question on the paper, he realized that he couldn't even begin to articulate his morals or values in words.
He glanced up at the large clock on the wall and saw that time was ticking away quickly. He knew that he needed to come up with an answer soon if he wanted to finish the rest of the paper on time. But how could he possibly define something as abstract and personal as morals and values? He remembered a wise man he had met on his travels, perhaps in a dream, who had once told him that morals and values are like a compass, guiding us through life's journey. And just like a compass, they are unique to each individual and can change over time.
With this thought in mind, Saturn began to write. He wrote about how his morals and values were shaped by his experiences, his beliefs, and the people he had met along the way. He wrote about how they had guided him through difficult times, and how they had helped him to become the person he was today. He wrote about how they were not set in stone, but were constantly evolving as he continued to learn and grow.
As he wrote, he felt a sense of clarity and understanding wash over him. He realized that his morals and values were not something that could be easily defined or articulated, but they were something that he carried with him, deep within his heart. And as long as his actions and choices aligned with his heart, he knew that he was living a moral and value-driven life.
He wrote this, as a mosquito landed on his sheet. Fucking pest.. he swatted it with his paper, making the proctor harshly shush him. He groaned, knowing that this might not be the best answer, but it was all he had at the moment. Then, he crossed out all the words that he had written down for the question. In a moment of inspiration, he began to write quickly and without pause, the words flowing freely from his pen.
"Morals and values live in the heart. As long as my heart is in alignment with my actions and my choice of words, I am moralistic and I bear values with which I resonate fully with all of my being."
He handed the paper over to the proctor, feeling a sense of peace and contentment. He knew that, even if he didn't get the highest marks on the paper, he had at least gained a deeper understanding of himself and his place in the world.
