Jak Lee Takes Her Classes

Day 1

Chatter surrounds the Konohagakure Ninja Academy from academy students out on the front of the school grounds. It was another day of school, and the bell had yet to ring. As usual, Jak Lee stood by herself in her martial arts uniform, waiting lonesomely for class to start. She was pretty much a loner. The bell rang at seven AM sharp, and all of the students flooded into their respective classes. Jak Lee entered her classroom and sat at the very front and middle of the class in her assigned seat. The teacher greeted everyone, and took attendance. When her name was called, Jak Lee would give a heart "yosh!" and raise her hand in the air to signal she was present. Her strange response always garned a few condescending giggles and glances, but she was too naive to realize that she was being looked down upon for that. After the attendance was taken, the Chuunin in charge of the class would point to the board.

"It's still early in the year, so we're going to go over some of the basics... Now let's see.. Who can tell me the name of the energy that we use to perform our ninja techniques, and what these techniques are called? Jak Lee, you answer."

Having been called upon, she eagerly answered the teacher's question. "We use chakra to perform ninja techniques called jutsu!"

The teacher gave Jak Lee her due props and continued his lecture, explaining the different types of jutsu (ninjutsu, genjutsu, taijutsu) and drew a few diagrams on the board. He denoted that chakra was made up by mixing both the spiritual and physical energy of the user inside the body.

He'd put his index and middle finger of both hands up and stick them together, forming a strange sign with his hand. He demonstrated the gathering of chakra, and a blue swirl of warm vapor slowly swirled around him towards the center of his body. He explained that this was chakra, and this was a way of accumulating chakra.

He would go into more detail and explain that jutsu were performed usually with the help of things called hand seals.

"Who can demonstrate all of the hand seals for me?" the instructor asked

An uchiha girl was picked to demonstrate, and she flawlessly executed each hand sign while weaving them. The instructor again gave the student their props.

"Now, we will have each of you come up and demonstrate gathering chakra."

The Uchiha girl was called up first. She was the star of the class, and was unsurprisingly able to demonstrate her ability to gather chakra. Her blue chakra took a beautiful form as it skillfully enveloped her body. One by one, students were allowed to come up on a voluntary basis and show off what they had. Jak Lee, however, was terrible at accumulating chakra and dreaded going up and doing it in front of the class. She'd wait until everyone else had gone, and pray that she would just be forgotten about and get skipped. However, "Lastly, Jak Lee. Come up," the teacher called upon her. The students before her had all managed to gather their chakra at least somewhat, and it turned visible. Jak Lee just had to do the same, right?

Jak Lee slowly walked towards the front of the class, visibly nervous as to what she was about to do. She faced towards the rest of the students in their desks and weaved the hand seal that the teacher showed them earlier and that all the other students had done. She clenched her entire body, as if that was the proper way to focus her chakra. A few moments passed, but nothing happened. After holding her breath and contracting all her muscles until she turned red in the face, she would exhale heavily, a bit light headed, and look down in a defeated manner. The entire class would erupt into laughter, and name-calling of "stupid," "failure," "drop out" and the like would resound from her classmates. Highly embarrassed, Jak Lee would take her seat.

The teacher was able to get the class to settle down after getting a good rouse out of Jak Lee's failure. The final bell rang, and the class would be dismissed. All of the other students quickly got up to leave the classroom and return to their families. However, as Jak Lee approached the exit of the classroom, her teacher would call her for a quick private chat. She'd be told that her performance was subpar, and was given additional remedial homework and a handout that explained how to improve her chakra control. She affirmed what he said with a sigh, and walked home in a defeated manner.

A few weeks passed from Jak Lee spectacular failure in class, having been unable to gather her chakra. With some homework the teacher assigned her and some extra reading she was assigned, Jak Lee was actually able to improve and learned to gather her chakra at a decent enough rate. This was going to come in handy for today's class. They'd all gather around outside of the Ninja Academy as usual as they awaited for the bell to ring. As the bell did such, the students all flooded into the academy. The teacher took attendance, and Jak Lee would respond with her patented "Yosh!!" Class would then begin

On the board was written: "Clone Jutsu" This was very clearly today's topic. The teacher would give a simple to understand explanation of what the Clone Jutsu consisted of and the hand signs needed to use it. He'd confirm everyone had an understanding of the theory of the topic, and then would go on to the actual application of the jutsu. He'd make the hand signs needed for the jutsu and yell out "Clone Jutsu," and in a puff of smoke, 4 more of the teacher appeared out of what seemed to be thin air. There were 2 to the right, 2 to the left, and one in the middle. He'd then make a hand seal, and just as fast as they appeared, the clones would disappear in more puffs of smoke. The class gave a round of applause along with a slew of ooo's and aaa's.

Now it was everyone else's turn. As usual, the Uchiha girl would go to the front of the class and show off her genius level skills. She'd perform the hand signs, and in a puff of smoke four exact clones of her would appear right next to her. The entire class was impressed that she was able to perform the skill on a level that was on par with their teacher, a Chuunin. One-by-one, everyone else would go up. Most would make 2 clones, some would make 3. But the Uchiha girl was the only one to actually make four, other than the teacher of course. Then Jak Lee's turn came

She was nervous. She had only just learned to gather her chakra to a sufficient level. She'd slowly walk to the class, feeling the deep pressure and expectations everyone had of her to fail. would get to the front, turn around to face the rest of the class, and gulp. As if it were going to help her in her desperate time of need, she closed her eyes as she would gather her chakra. So far, so good. A warm, blue force would enwrap her body as she began to concentrate. Next was the hand signs. She weaved them slowly, yet sufficiently, after having spent forever trying to memorize them as homework on her own. She could feel her chakra molding and changing within her. When all was set, she would finally yell "Clone Jutsu!" A puff of smoke would explode to the right of her, and a single clone would appear next to her.

"That's it?" one of the kids yelled out condescendingly. The rest of the class proceeded to laugh. She had succeeded in the technique this time, but it was not to her fellow students' liking. Her face turned a bright red as she looked down, embarrassed that out of all of the attempts at the Clone Jutsu, hers was the worst. The teacher was able to get the class to settle down, and finally they'd all be released to go home. Once more, while everyone flooded out of the exit, Jak Lee was called for a private word with her teacher. He would give her words of encouragement, congratulating her on making a successful clone despite her past hardships in class. With these words of praised, Jak Lee would go home feeling slightly more confident.

A few months had passed since their Clone Jutsu class. It was a few months out from the genin exam, and they were going through their last few lessons. They had been over many topics, such as weapons, taijutsu, ninjutsu, genjutsu, tactics, strategies, etc. The students were all in an unspoken rating system with the Uchiha girl at the top of the class, and Jak Lee at the very bottom of the class, unsure if she was going to graduate or not. She was trying her very best, however.

The bell rang, and per usual the students each flooded inside to their respective classrooms. Jak Lee entered hers, and the teacher took attendance as usual. And as usual, she resounded with her hearty "Yosh!!!" answer. And as usual, she was met with condescending looks and remarks. It was a normal day, and nothing out of the ordinary stuck out. On the board, "Transformation Jutsu" was written, denoting today's topic.

The teacher gave a brief explanation of the self-explanatory jutsu: that it was a technique that allowed you to copy the exact appearance of another person or person-sized object. He did, however, include a caveat that the jutsu would not enhance your abilities to the level of the person or object that was being copied, and that the jutsu could and would come undone should the caster lose focus from damage or surprise or some other element. He provided a demonstration of the jutsu.

He'd gather his chakra and perform the only hand seal that the jutsu required. He'd yell out "Transformation!!" and a puff of smoke would engulf him. As the smoke cleared, a different person stood in their presence. it was the school principal! Ooo's and aaa's filled the room as the teacher had effectively become someone else. He then made another seal, and in another puff of smoke, would turn back into his regular self. Then it was time for the students to attempt.

Per usual, the Uchiha girl would go first. She would execute the move flawlessly, having no complaints whatsoever from the teacher about her technique. Following her, everyone else would go and each person would have slight deviations of the person they transformed into. Some were a little taller, shorter, fatter, skinnier, darker, lighter, or whatever they were from the original. But for the most part, everyone made a passable transformation. Then, Jak Lee's turn came.

As she walked to the front of the classroom, she could already feel everyone basically resigning her to fail before she had even started. And how could they expect anything else from her? So far she had been at the bottom of the class in all aspects. There was absolutely no reason to expect excellence, or even general competence from her. She'd turn around to face the rest of the class and perform the technique.

"Transformation!!"

A puff of smoked erupted around her, and seemed very slow to settle. With much anxiety from Jak Lee, and passive aggressive impatience from the onlooking students, the smoke would settle and reveal she had chosen to transform into her teacher. The actual teacher then came to inspect, and nerve wrackingly looked over every inch of Jak Lee's transformed body. After a few moments, he'd smile and say, "Perfect!"

The class was visibly confused that she had done such a good job. This put her on par with the likes of the Uchiha girl that was the star of the class. However, her past failures made this accomplishment less impactful. No one applauded or anything. The whole class kind of seemed to just skip right by the event. Class then ended, and everyone made their way outside. Once more, the teacher would call upon Jak Lee to stay after class for a private conversation. He would basically tell her how far she's come, and would give her all kinds of props. She'd go home happy as can be.
