Mission Links:

When Gun was an academy student, missions were nothing but busy work that any person could do. They required no ninja skills or capabilities of note, so even old people could have done them. Now, the missions had gotten more dangerous and much more physically taxing. Because of that, Gun had been assigned to visit the doctor for a check up. Her higher ups wanted to ensure that the young kunoichi was still in suitable shape for more missions that required more action. Gun didn’t mind the sentiment, she wanted to get stronger and she couldn’t very well do that if she was sick or had an unknown injury. Of course, Gun had Kana and she was becoming a great medic, so Gun wasn’t too worried about her physical body. If Kana hadn’t noticed any issues, then Gun believed there likely weren’t any.

She walked in, giving the girl at the counter a nod. ”You have an appointment?” Gun nodded. The girl tilted her head, as if waiting for something and Gun also tilted her head, wondering why they were doing this. ”What is your name?” the girl finally asked, her tone not even attempting to hide her frustration.

”Juunan Gunshin,” her face reddened a little, now that she knew why the girl was waiting for her to respond. She was a bit embarrassed. She’d never really been to a doctor before.

”Have a seat,” the girl said, gesturing towards a room with couches around it. ”and we’ll call you back when we’re ready.”

Gun did as instructed and took a seat. Looking around, she realized that there were civilians there too. In fact, she was the only shinobi in the waiting room; at least, she was the only one wearing a headband. Maybe the others were undercover or didn’t like wearing their headband when they were at the doctor.

”Gunshin.” A nurse called from a side door, looking around for someone to begin getting up after hearing their name. Gun did get up, and the nurse smiled to her as she let her in the back and closed the door behind them. ”On the scale, please.” She waved her hand towards the wall where a scale was located as she turned and picked up her paperwork. She had to document everything, especially for these shinobi check ups.

After Gun got on the scale, the nurse began moving the weights so that she could see how much Gun weighed. ”Ninety seven pounds,” the woman said as she began pulled out the attached height measurer. ”Turn around, back against the wall.” Gun turned and backed up as the nurse checked her height. ”Four foot, eleven inches. Still growing, that’s good. This way.” The nurse said and led Gun down the hall to an exam room. ”Up on the table, I’ll take your blood pressure.”

Gun did as instructed and pulled the sleeve of her Kisatsutai uniform, so that the nurse could get to her arm. The nurse wrapped the cuff around Gun’s arm and began pumping a little rubber ball, before pulling the stethoscope that had been around her neck to her ears. Once the cuff was properly pumped up, the nurse put the metal end of the tool to Gun’s arm and listened as the heart pumped the blood through the constricted vessels. She then released the air from the cuff before removing it from Gun’s arm. She then moved behind Gun and said ”Take some deep breaths,” while placing the metallic disc of her tool under Gun’s armor. She slid it up to the area behind her lungs and listened as Gun took deep breaths as instructed.

”Everything seems fine, have you noticed any pain or discomfort?” Gun simply nodded negatively in response. ”Any digestion issues or loose stool?” And again another negative nod from Gun. ”If there’s nothing else you want to ask, then the doctor will be with you in a minute.” The nurse did pause, giving Gun to speak up if anything specific came to mind. Seeing as she didn’t speak up, the nurse left the room.

Gun looked at the somewhat generic art on the walls. There were some with random trees, which seems less artistic in the Land of Forests, and then there were some that seemed more like medical charts. One, upon closer inspection, had a chart showing how much children of either gender should weigh versus how tall they were over the years of their life. She guessed the doctor saw a lot of children and parents were always asking stuff like that.

A gentle knock on the door and then it opened, an older gentleman with greying hair came through, a friendly smile on his face. ”Good morning, Miss Gunshin. How are we doing today?”

Gun couldn’t help if that was his ‘go to’ entrance statement, but she shrugged the thought off and responded ”Fine sir, and you?” The doctor didn’t really look at her after his initial question, instead looking over the papers in her file and the measurements that the nurse had taken.

”Oh, I’m doing just fine. All your stats seem fine, nothing to worry about as far as I can tell. Do you have any concerns; headaches, diarrhea, tooth pains, or joint issues to speak of?” He finally turns to look at her as he finished his question.

“No sir,” she answered. The Doctor nodded and moved towards her. He placed his hands on her shoulders, kind of pushing her to a laying position. He then proceeded to put his hands on her right arm, bending at all the joints, feeling for any inconsistencies or inability to function as the joints are supposed to. After the right, he moved over to the left, including the shoulder. He was very thorough and Gun's face was a red from this man touching her. He didn't seem to care as he moved down to her legs and began twisting and turning her right leg, from the hip to the knee, and then down to the ankle. After that, the Doctor moved to the left leg, bending the girl every which way like she was some sort of doll.

”Alright, you're cleared for duty, Miss Gunshin. Be safe out there."

Gun had been called to action once more, this time helping with the removal of bulk trash. Her physical strength wasn't terribly useful in this regard, but from what she'd heard, most every genin were called to help. Whether it was moving things in groups or using ninjutsu to burn the junk down to more manageable levels, everyone could help somehow. Gun had arrived where she had been told to arrive and she looked around for a moment, no one else seemed to be there so she was worried she had gotten the address wrong. After a second, a young boy, maybe six years old, walked up. "Yo, my mom has a table she doesn't want anymore, you're supposed to remove it." Gun simply nodded and took a step towards the boy. He turned and led Gun a house down and then the boy opened the door to a house.

Gun went in, not sure she would be able to even carry the table; luckily, she had her basic scrolls with her, so she could store it and carry it that way. Her uniform also had some extra storage if needed. The boy wanted to a side table that clearly had been seen better days. It had a decent chunk taken out of the side, like someone had thrown it down really hard. There was also paint and build up of other materials on the top. Gun bent down and checked its weight, it wasn't too bad, but she didn't know where she was going next so she went ahead and pulled a scroll out and proceeded to store the table into the scroll. The boy looked on amazed as the table disappeared like magic right before his eyes. Gun couldn't help but smile at him, then leaned over and whispered "You could do it too, just become a ninja like me."

After stepping outside, she checked where she was supposed to go next. They'd given her a sheet of paper with three different addresses; now that she had completed the work at the first one, she would head to the second address. With the basic sealing technique and the scrolls that Gun had, carrying heavy things would be a piece of cake. Then she'd just have to go to the landfill afterwards and unseal all of the things.

She made her way to the second address, looking forward to the ryo she’d receive for doing this mission. She was always needing more money for weapons and materials for augmenting. She walked up to the house and knocked on the door. An elderly woman cracked the door open a smidge, peering through the crack.

”What do you want?!” the woman asked in a tone that seemed more angry than inquisitive. Gun took a step back, her first thought was how rude the lady was, but then her thoughts jumped to being at the wrong address.

”You… got junk to… be removed?” Gun’s words came out disjointed as she tried to speak and formulate her words at the same time.

The door opened further and the woman stepped out of the while saying ”You're late!” Her tone still indicated that she was angry and Gun just assumed she was a very busy lady and Gun “being late” made her late for her other activities. She led Gun to the backyard and pointed to a dead tree, about 15 feet high and nothing but the trunk and a few limbs that reached skyward. ”Take that away!” followed by a laugh that seemed more suited to an evil supervillain than an elderly lady.

Gun watched as the lady went inside, still chuckling to herself. Gun had no idea how to get the remains of the tree out of the ground. She walked over and gave the thing a bear hug, trying to pull it upward. Having no luck, she tried pulling backward, then pushing it forward. If it budged, it was so slight that Gun hadn’t noticed. She took a step back, looking at the trunk inquisitively. Gun could have sworn she heard another maniacal laugh from inside. She wasn't sure what to do here, she wondered if she could seal something so big in a scroll, even if it was still impaling the earth. Finally, she pulled her tanto out of its sheath. She was sure a tanto wasn't the right tool needed for cutting this tree into pieces, but she had seen some of the higher up shinobi use katanas to halve stone. If they could do it, maybe she could do it too.

She took a step back, holding the short bladed weapon in her right hand. She moved it through the air, feeling its weight and judging its length. With such a short blade, she didn't think she could cut all the way through the tree in one swipe... if she could cut into it at all. The other fear that came to mind was getting the blade stuck in the tree if it cut into it somewhat but not all the way through. If she couldn't get the blade out, she'd really be in trouble. She stepped forward quickly, putting her all into the swing of the sword. The metal contacted the wood and sliced through it like butter. Gun's speed allowed her tanto to shred through the dead bark and rotting tree without any issue, coming out the other side. She was glad it had worked, a slight chuckle escaping from her as she walked around the tree to the opposite side which was still fully attached. Taking another swing, the top half of the tree fell to the ground. Gun put one of her scrolls over it and proceeded to store the dead tree into the scroll.

Now that tree was a bit more manageable in size, Gun felt like she could better maneuver it out of the ground. She grabbed it again and wiggled it profusely. Eventually, the tree's roots gave way and Gun was able to lift the thing out of the ground. She stored it into the scroll with the rest of the tree and then left, leaving the lady who was peering through the window a friendly wave before leaving for the third address.

She was glad that they'd given her three addresses located near each other, though it would have made no sense at all to have people crossing paths and going all over the village, but still, she appreciated the village's efficiency in this matter. As she arrived at the third address, Gun was pretty sure she knew what she was getting, but stealing wouldn't look good on her permanent record if she was wrong, so she made her way up to the front door. In the yard out front, there was what appeared to be a carriage, however, one of the wheels clearly bent beyond repair. She knocked on the door. "Oh, good. Yeah, the carriage out front please." The lady that answered had confirmed Gun's suspicions and she simply nodded in response.

She went out to the carriage, looking up when she realized the lady had come out to join her. "A blacksmith could make a new wheel... I don't even think it'd cost a whole lot." Gun's statement was half to herself and half to the woman, who upon closer inspection, seemed to be about the same age as her mother. She looked at the middle aged woman, wondering if that fact had changed her mind.

"My husband and the horse that we used to pull it have both died, I have no need for it." Gun nodded, a little saddened by the situation the lady found herself in. Gun couldn't help but sympathize with her, because she and her mother had to fend for themselves all of Gun's life until she became a shinobi. Now that she earned ryo as a kunoichi, they were able to live a pretty comfortable life in Sakuragakure no Sato. Gun stepped forward and placed her last scroll over the carriage and after a few handseals, the whole thing was sucked into the scroll. She waved goodbye to the woman, who was in tears. Gun turned and left, her own eyes watering up a bit in empathy. She hoped taking the carriage away would give the woman some sort of closure, but that was just a hope to make herself feel better because she didn't really know the situation at all.

She then had to traverse through a good deal of the village in order to get to the landfill. It wasn't a terrible journey and Gun was able to make short work of it, but it had given her emotions a chance to settle down. As she got closer, she saw more and more shinobi coming and going. It was like they were all involved in this endeavor. She ended up walking behind a few others, one of which was physically carrying a large drum, the sort that holds liquids or oils. Gun hoped it was empty, but she couldn't be sure. There was a pretty decent line as she arrived and she stood behind the man holding the drum. She could see past some of the other shinobi and people were checking stuff in, surely marking people off the list of stuff that still needed to be picked up. Past them, Gun could see other shinobi doing handseals and spewing fire from their mouths. So much trash was coming in, they were burning as much of it as they could to make room.

She waited patiently, listening as some of the others that were in line talked about their days and recent missions. Gun wished Kana was there, so she'd feel more comfortable. She really did want to talk about the old lady who laughed in a maniacal manner, but she didn't want to tell these strangers; she wanted to tell Kana. Finally, the man with the drum was there and he gave them the address that he had gotten the drum from. The kunoichi there marked the address off the list and told him to find a place. He went in and she looked to Gun, who seemingly had empty hands. "Where'd you go?" She assumed that Gun had stored the items, many shinobi were skilled in fuuin and storing, so it wasn't too surprising to her anymore at this point. Of course, Gun was a bit younger than some of the other shinobi who'd shown up with their bulk items in storage scrolls.

Gun simply handed the paper that she'd been using that had all three addresses on it. "And you went to all 3?" The kunoichi's tone had a bit of unbelief to it. Gun nodded in the affirmative, pulling out all three of her scrolls. Of course, both Gun and the kunoichi knew that the kunoichi couldn't tell whether there was anything in those scrolls or whether the things that were in them came from the addresses indicated on the paper, but she marked all three off the list and waved Gun inside.

She went over to the first katon wielding shinobi and unloaded the tree, piece of furniture, and the carriage. The items all plopped out onto the ground and the shinobi pointed at the wheels. Gun grabbed the wheels, sealing them into a scroll and the shinobi gave her a nod. Katon would easily be able to burn everything she left behind and turn it into tiny piles of ash rather than the large pieces that she had brought in. The metal carriage wheels that Gun still had in her scroll wouldn't benefit from being burned, so Gun moved further back until she saw what appeared to be a blacksmith and an array of metal objects. As a blacksmith herself, Gun knew that some of the scrap metal could be melted and reused so she dumped the wheels from her scroll and headed off. She was sure when she tried to leave that they would assign her more to pick up.
