Getting Her Feet Wet
Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:23 pm
Construction on this training facility had finished just before Gun had been promoted to chuunin, so she'd never had the opportunity to use it. Now that she was here, Gun was a little excited to see what kind of features and ammenities the village had been able to afford. Now that she had met Merlin, she was sure he would continue to make improvements as time and resources allowed. He had seemed very adamant about growing the village and the individuals that made up the village. This building was just one of the means to that end and evidence that his actions matched his words. Gun also shared her leader's desire to make Sakura a ninja village on par with any other which was why she had agreed to meet Kana, and some genin, here. She'd never taught anyone anything, but she had agreed to try to teach both of them how to use the element of water. She was really worried she was going to sound like an idiot, but she was going to do her best. Gun hoped that Kana, with their close relationship, would be able to understand what Gun was trying to say, even if she ended up saying things incredibly wrong or unhelpful. She knew Kana was already teaching the girl medical jutsu, so maybe Kana could act as an interpretor, of sorts.
Speaking of this genin that Kana was going to bring along, Gun wasn't super keen on meeting new people or being with people in general. She was a little worried that this genin would be a know it all or think Gun was a loser, but she also realized that this would be the first person she'd really interacted with that she outranked. Gun hoped this would empower her enough to not act like her former self, a meek girl who is too shy to be useful. Only time would tell.

Kana was surprised when Hanako expressed a desire to learn how to mold water chakra as well when Kana made an off handed mention about learning how to do it herself, so it seemed only natural that Kana would get her little student a lesson from someone who could help in that regard, Gunshin had been making great use of her natural water element so it seemed like a good idea to ask her friend to teach both Kana and the freshly made genin on how to use water chakra, something her friend had agreed to easily enough. Today was the day they had arranged to have the little teaching lesson and Kana had to admit part of her was curious how her friend would handle things, she felt sure she wouldn't have much of a problem in terms of being shy since it was just Kana and the much smaller brat that was both younger, smaller and lower rank than either of the two girls.
"Hey Gunshin, I guess Hanako didn't show up just yet?" Kana noticed her friend easily enough, the usually meek girl having found themselves a small room to use away from the main areas and stood outside of the room, probably so the other two could find her easily enough and as such Kana took her place by her friend, crossing her arms as she leaned up against the wall and prepared herself to wait for their little genin. It was going to be interesting to see Hanako realize that Kana had been promoted, the new flak jacket felt comfortable to wear and she really liked how it made her feel, more seen and recognized as someone of greater power than just a mere genin.

Gun and Kana shot the breeze for a few minutes, but eventually decided to go on with the lesson without Hanako. “One of us can teach her later anyways,” Gun concluded before entering the training area. Gun knew that Kana wanted to learn to use Water for a variety of purposes, but she also knew that Kana’s strategies often included staying hidden from their enemies. That was why Gun decided to suggest Kana learn the Hidden Mist technique as well, once she’d gotten the hang of Water. The fact that Gun’s eyes were able to enter a stage where she could see people even through the Mist was just another reason Kana could use Mist without worry: it wouldn’t hinder Gun at all.
Gun was glad that she had delved deeper into a variety of elements because it made her feel more confident in trying to teach Water to Kana. If all she knew was Water, it felt like it’d be harder to explain it to someone. But now that she had an understanding of the Lightning, Storm, and Poison elements, she felt like she could better describe Water. Of course, Poison and Storm were derivatives of Water, but Lightning had really opened her eyes to the differences between Water and the other elements. Gun had access to Poison because of her bloodline, though she still wasn’t sure what bloodline it was, but Lightning and Storm were learned elements that anyone could learn, just like Water.
Water was Gun’s natural affinity so it came naturally once she learned how to include elements into her chakra. But learning Lightning had really opened her eyes on how the different elements ‘feel’. While lightning was an electrical feeling, like being shocked by something, water was like a flowing river, you had to focus on its flow in order to really feel the difference in the two elements. Of course, Storm and Poison had their own feels as well.
Of course, Gun had been considering what she would say for the last couple days. She worried that talking about the feel of the element would sound super weird, but she hadn’t come up with anything better. ”So first things first, all the elements feel different. If you know how it feels, it makes it easier to use that element. The element of Water feels like…” Gun paused, realizing that water wasn’t a great way to finish that statement. ”a river. You focus on it flowing by you like you were sitting in the river.” She hoped it didn’t sound as awkward as it felt.
”You use fire, I don’t know what that feels like, but Lightning has an electrical feel, like being shocked by something. Storm feels like that wind right before a big storm hits. It's not just the blowing, but almost like the anticipation that something powerful is nearby.” Gun had never put the feeling of Storm into words before, but she was pretty happy with how that had come out.
”Of course, you have to also focus on the chakra and try to impart that feeling onto the chakra. You want to transform the chakra itself into the element you intend to use." Gun smiled, hoping her spiel had been, at least somewhat, helpful.

Kana was a bit disappointed the little brat didn't show up but there wasn't much she could do about that, as Gunshin said, one of them could probably go out and teach them if they still wanted to learn how use water in her chakra later down the line, so instead the duo began the lesson with Kana sitting opposite of Gunshin as the meek girl began to explain what was the difference between her various chakra elements and how each felt, Kana listening with half a ear as she allowed her own chakra to begin to flow and fluctuate throughout her body, calling on the familiar feel of her natural fire element and getting a feeling for it that would match how Gunshin described her own usage of the various elements. When her best friend picked up so many elements while Kana only had access to a single element after all this time was beyond her but it wasn't like the two of them had been joined at the hip, Kana had done her own training to pick up a lot of useful things for whatever comes their way during battle, some of which she hadn't shown her friend just yet.
"Alright... I can feel my chakra.... Feels warm, like standing by a fire...." Kana spoke quietly and calmly as she allowed herself to get a feel for her chakra, letting it take on the more familiar heat she felt when using it for her fire jutsu, almost like she was wrapping herself up in a nice warm blanket. She should look into finding a jutsu that can mimic this actually, she felt certain she saw one in that Jutsu Encyclopedia when she was first getting started on finding jutsu to learn. "Now... A river... I fucking hate water..." Kana mumbled to herself as she tried to envision what Gunshin was describing, allowing her chakra to lose it's warmth and instead trying to impart the feeling of a river running it's current through her body, freely flowing and enveloping her body that made her slightly uncomfortable.
She remained seated and trying to imagine herself in a river, her experiences with water wasn't exactly the best but she hardly was going to let bad memories and her dislike of water stop her from actually trying to use it in combat, that hidden mist jutsu Gunshin had told her about was far too interesting to pass up on, besides she wanted to learn even more water jutsu, she had saw some water clones she could easily claim for herself and another jutsu that would work well with the clones, water prison, plus there might be even more useful stuff she didn't even look into just yet, a new element would open a whole new batch of jutsu to explore and use. It was with that goal in mind that Kana slowly began to let herself get lost in the sensation of a river flowing around her, feeling as her chakra slowly turned from it's plain natural chakra into a flowing swirl of chakra, not quite having the same warmth as fire but the water wasn't all that cold compared to the weather and she felt she had a basic idea of how to impart water onto something but there was only one real way to confirm that she knew how to actually use the stupid water element.
"I think I got it. Let's try using that hidden mist jutsu then." Kana spoke up, letting her chakra fade back to normal, her eyes opening as she rose to her feet in preparation for mimicking her friend's hand seals to try and force herself to learn how to perform the hidden mist jutsu, she felt confident in saying she would be able to get it done, assuming if she had truly learnt how to use the water element like she thought she had.

Gun had always been impressed with Kana's natural ability to control chakra and that extended to how quickly she had been able to get the hang of nature transformation. Even with her natural affinity being water, Gun hadn't been able to pick it up as quickly as Kana had. Even when she'd tried to learn Lightning or Storm, she'd spent a good deal more time practicing and working on it before she could manage it frequently. But Kana was built differently and, perhaps, this optimal training center helped her get the hang of things more quickly. “Wow! That was quick, girl!" Gun's hands clasped each other in front of her before she jumped up to a kneeling position from the seated one she had been in.
“Ok, fist thing, the hand seals are ox then snake followed by ram and concluding with tiger. Just four seals, not too many." Gun did each seal with her hands in front of her as she said each one. Of course, she knew Kana already knew all the seals, it was just easier for Gun to remember which seals to do if she went through them in order. “Now, to make the mist, you need a water source. I've heard if you master the technique, you can even pull water out of the air to make the mist, but obviously you're not there yet so for now, you'll have to expel the water from your mouth. I know, kinda gross, but it's not as bad as puking!" Gun nodded, as if her head movement would be the final touch in convincing Kana that it was okay to spew gallons of water from her mouth.
“You'd probably notice pretty quick without me saying, but I'm gonna say it anyways cause it'll make me feel like a better teacher: wind techniques can blow the mist away so choose your opponents carefully." She sat back on the ground, letting her friend digest all the information she'd just stated. Then, with expectant eyes, she'd watch her friend and indicate she should try the jutsu.

Listening to her friend tell her the steps to performing the hidden mist jutsu while telling her how it worked, Kana allowed her mind to run through the hand seals, imagining how the chakra should be molded while trying to remember how it felt to be imparting the water element onto her chakra, a process that shouldn't be so different from fire but with a whole new feeling to her chakra that she just had to copy. "Ox, Snake, Ram, Tiger." Kana mumbled to herself as she allowed herself to run through the hand seals in a slow and steady fashion, getting used to forming them in order before she tried using her chakra as she done with all the jutsu she learnt so far, she'd repeat the hand seals a few more times before finally feeling pleased with her ability to form them at a fast enough speed that it would be viable to use them in combat.
Now the more tricky part of this process, actually applying her chakra and molding it as the hand seals dictated. Letting her chakra build up once more, Kana first began the process of imparting the water element onto her built up chakra, feeling it turn from the mixture of energy and turning it into a strange flowing sensation, as if water was gently caressing her body and it made her uncomfortable but she pushed through it as she began to run through the hand seals as instructed, feeling her chakra move and be molded as she performed each seal until finally she performed the tiger hand seal. Letting her chakra build up in her mouth and intensify the moisture within, she began to gently blow the chakra infused mist out of her mouth, quickly filling the small room they were in and hiding her from Gunshin, a process that reminded her of her own smoke veil jutsu that she mastered a while back but in a much larger scale, one that dwarfed her current usage.
"Not bad... I don't suppose you know any wind jutsu to get rid of this quickly, do you?" Kana asked as she allowed her chakra to fade and began the slow process of allowing the mist to fade, yet it was still impossible to see Gunshin within the mist, she could only feel her own chakra everywhere she sensed and she felt certain even other sensory jutsu wouldn't aid her in trying to find Gunshin if she decided to try and hide away. She'd probably be a bit more worried if she didn't have a method to dealing with lack of sight by now, instead it would only be a problem if the enemy had managed to escape the mist entirely, in which point the previous problems were no longer problems.

"Not bad... I don't suppose you know any wind jutsu to get rid of this quickly, do you?" Gun giggled, letting her sound give away her location. Gun laughed because Kana knew what jutsu Gun was capable of better than anyone else and wind was not one of the elements that she had picked up, both kunoichi knew that. Gun was glad that Kana had learned both water and the mist jutsu so quickly. She was sure there were more jutsu the two could teach each other, but it was just about lunch time and Gun had skipped breakfast so her tummy was rumbling something fierce.
"Unfortunately not," Gun answered. "But I'm getting pretty hungry. Grab some food and come back later?"

Kana listened to her friend laugh and she could take an educated guess where she was, although the girl's stomach rumbling also helped Kana pin down where her friend had disappeared to within the mist, still just a few feet ahead of her and probably hadn't move but it wasn't like Kana had memorized the exact location before starting up with the latest hidden mist jutsu, still it seemed like this would be a pretty handy trick to have up her sleeves if the need to fight and hide herself became more apparent, although she wasn't entirely sure how useful this jutsu could be compared to her own invisibility granting jutsu. "Yeah, let's go get some lunch, I'm getting hungry anyways. We can always learn more stuff later." Kana agreed with her friend easily enough, a simple meal would do the duo good and it wasn't like there was any limit on how many times people can visit here to train, they could pick back up from where they had left off at any time.
