Genin Exam [Kazusa]

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village. As twilight set in, the village buzzed with a tranquil energy, its residents winding down from the day's activities. Amidst the soft rustling of leaves and the distant murmur of the marketplace, the iconic Hokage Monument stood tall, its stone faces gazing protectively over the village. And toward the outskirts of the main village, a spirited, ravenette kunoichi springs forth from an open window and latches onto a nearby tree branch before swinging from one to the other, in a series of front flips, before landing on the earth beneath her.

"Safe!" She shouts, quickly adjusting her posture before she stands up, checks her balance, and turns to face from where she exited. "How did I do, Onee-chan?"

A brunette sharing almost identical features to her peers beyond the window-way and throws a double thumbs-up with a whimsical smile. "Ten outta ten, Nee-chan! And not a single branch bent, to boot!"

The ravenette giggles as she thrusts her fists into the air in triumph. "Great!" She grins from ear-to-ear, before entryway into their home opens and reveals another ravenette in a navy blue and white kimono with, in both hands, a bento box in hand wrapped neatly in a purple furoshiki. "Oh, right!" The younger runs toward the woman and retrieves it. "Thanks, mom!"

"We still have to properly celebrate your promotion to Chūnin. I think your sister had something planned for us later this evening to take us out. But, don't be out too late."

"I won't!" Himari shares an embrace with her mother before she turns to run off. "See ya later! Love you!"

"Be careful!" Nozomi waves as she watches her daughter disappear from sight.

"Be careful out there, Nee-chan! We love you too!" Hisaki shouts after her as she watches her younger sister disappear into the distance. "She's really grown up, huh?"

"She has," the older ravenette nods with a warm smile. "I remember when she was just a little girl who'd come crying to me about how she got hurt during training."

"And now look at her! She's a Chūnin, officially proctoring for the Genin Exam!"

The two laugh together before they head back inside their home.




Himari navigates through the Academy halls and eventually to the examination room full of prospective Genin students, where—compared to the last time she proctored with the Hokage's permission—is a lot more subdued. Everyone present could've easily mistaken her appearance as being one of the graduating classmates for the year, were it not for the betrayal of her flak jacket's presence on her garments. She stands beside the podium beside her, placing her clipboard on its surface before she claps her hands thrice.

"Excuse me, eyes to the front please!" She starts, acquiring the attention of the students in the room. "Hi! I'm Hyūga Himari and I'm happy to be supervising everyone for today's Genin Exam. I get that some of ya might be super nervous about this, but don't worry! We'll be taking things nice and slow so that everyone can get their chance to prove themselves."

She smiles warmly at them before she picks up a weighty pile of exam packets from the podium and begins to walk down the center row of desks. "So, without further ado, we'll begin with a written portion of the exam followed by the practical, where you'll show me how well you've practiced learning the Transformation and Clone techniques. Everyone will have one hour to complete each portion. If ya need anything, feel free to raise your hand."

She hands out the test sheets to each student before she returns to the front and stands beside the podium. By the time everyone completes the written exam portion and she collects the packets for grading, she then calls each student's name, in alphabetical order, to step forward and demonstrate their proficiency with the Transformation and Clone Jutsu. Over time, she eventually signals one name in particular.

"Uchiha Kazusa," Her eyes scan the crowd for him until he takes a step forward. Should he do so, Himari's lips curl and gives him a thumbs-up. "Whenever you're ready, you can start!"

It was a busy moment in the village as twilight set over Konohagakure. The true beginning of shinobihood was upon the youngest residents of the village. Within many homes lay academy students getting ready, being wished best of luck by their families as they head off to try their luck being promoted to a true rank in the village's military. Unlike those many homes lay one thats energy was off despite its occupants having their own up and comer on their way to the exam.

A cold aura radiated through this particular Uchiha residence, as was normal. No festivities or well wishes escaped its hall instead a bleakness seemed to emanate from within. As Kazusa stood ready to leave he simply received a cool nod from his father who sat at a table before returning to a report he was working on. Kazusa returned the nod and exited the house, he'd expected nothing more from his family. In fact any more familiarity than the nod would be worthy of suspicion of the highest order. His parents weren't kind and each of their actions were calculated, a cruel lesson always just a moment away from execution.

His ascendance to genin was an expectation from them. Anything less would be met with a reaction of disbelief, the perfect soldier they had raised was too good for a thing such as failure. Of course, Kazusa himself held the same expectations for himself. His parents were right when they taught him that he was superior to others. It was a simple truth in this world, a world where power was everything. Some people had it, others did not. A destiny if you will, a thing he'd been born with.

Of course, today would be a day of celebration, whether his parents realized it or not. Kazusa believed the academy and its pursuits to be... less than deserving of his attention. But to be genin, even a rank as low as that would still be a rank within the village's hierarchy. Today would be a true start to his journey to his journey to power and would be the first day his parents could mark as a precursor to, well... revenge. He planned to make them pay for each lesson they ingrained in him, for each moment of pain and even worse, the truly unforgivable, each moment he was attached to their mediocrity. If there was one thing he couldn't forgive it was that, mediocrity from the elitist scum that had raised him. But he'd show them, he'd rub their faces in it one day...

Lost in thought Kazusa didn't realize he had already reached the school. It seemed he'd traveled far while lost in his musings. He couldn't help the casual sneer that graced his face as he walked up to the testing room. He couldn't help it when around his 'peers.' Not one of them deserving even a moment of his time. His classmates, aware of his view of them gave him a wide birth as he settled into his seat. That is, except for one girl who seemed to work up the nerve to approach him. When his frown didn't send her scurrying back to her classmates her activated his sharingan and gave her an intense glare. Seemingly petrified the girl wilted and ran away with tears in her eyes, not that he cared. It wasn't long after that that a noise at the front of the classroom caught his attention.

"Excuse me, eyes to the front please!" Said a young raven haired girl. Kazusa was surprised she was allowed to proctor the exam at her age. A mild interest awoke in him, as he wondered how strong she was.

Kazusa frowned as she finally got to him and gave him his packet. He looked at the test with bemusement as he reviewed the questions before starting. All of them were nothing but the expected amateur bullshit. With a deep sigh, he got to work.

As he finished his exam Kazusa turned it in with no worries, knowing he had aced it. He then waited as the raven haired proctor went through a list of names for the practical portion of the exam. To his amusement some failed as their names were called, not even able to pass off a proper clone or transformation jutsu. He could see others waiting with fear, practicing hand signs or muttering to themselves. All he could think was that he couldn't wait to be free of this place. The stench of weakness, of failure, was in the air and it was humiliating being so close to it. But then... his name was called.

"Uchiha Kazusa. Whenever you're ready, you can start!"

Not wanting this to take any longer than necessary Kazusa sauntered to the front of the class and quickly formed the handseal for Ram, allowing a perfect replica of himself to appear beside him, just as bemused as he was. He then hastily shifted his hands to the handseal for Dog transforming the clone into a replica of the proctor. After waiting a few moments he released the jutsu and stared at the girl before asking, "Is that sufficient?"

Watching Kazusa first perform the Clone technique, Himari studies the illusory projection for any imperfections or faults. She nods in approval before the aforementioned clone performs the Transformation technique. The clone sits still for a moment before a puff of off-white smoke quickly envelops as quickly as it disperses and transforms into an exact copy of her, down to the tiniest detail. She claps her hands together while smiling brightly.

"That's great! You pass!" She exclaims.

Thereafter, she sorts through the remaining students' names on her list and begins to call out one name after another, each student performing their respective techniques with varying degrees of success. After all of them complete the practical portion, she then delivers a short oration in commemoration of those who passed, distributing Konoha-engraved headbands to each graduating student—proof of their ascension in becoming Genin and a hallmark of their burgeoning ninja career—and another of encouragement to those who failed, detailing that failure is not the end, but the beginning of their success and an opportunity to learn from their mistakes before becoming full-fledged shinobi.

Afterward, she dismisses them from the classroom, awaiting all of the students to exit the premise before she tidies up and leaves the facility herself, closing the door behind her. From there, she spends the remaining day in the company of her family, as the newly appointed Chūnin and her elder sibling gorge themselves among mountainous plates of Ramen to their hearts' content, much to their mother's wallet's dismay.

Kazusa gave the girl a curt nod before returning to his seat, refraining from rolling his eyes. As he watched the last few students perform their own jutsu for the practical exam and then listened to the small speech the proctor made commemorating those who passed and consoling those who failed Kazusa had to hold back a snort of disgust. Anyone who couldn't pass this simple exam didn't deserve to be a ninja, period. Treating it like something to overcome was pathetic. Those who failed here should be dropped from the program and start their lives actual purpose, being a second class citizen of the leaf supporting those with actual potential. Anything less than that was just futile.

When Kazusa received his headband he just got up and stalked out of the room as quickly as he could. The less time he spent around that bunch of mediocrity the better. He didn't want to catch it.
