Hara looked down at the pile of slips and grabbed another one at random, heading to the address. He looked at the money in his hand as he did so. It felt strange. Just useless pieces of paper, maybe useful as tinder,  He thought to himself. Still, if this was what was valuable to them, he would play along.

This time he knocked on the door of the house, this one a much more run down and dirty place than the last one. A whisper emanated from an alleyway nearby and Hara stared at the source of the noise. A group of 6 men stood in the alleyway, jeering. They looked to be a gang of some sort.

He walked over to them, making sure to keep his back to the open street.


“Looks like you got our job posting.” One of them said, He stood there silently, gauging their reactions as he read the mission slip. He had learned a long time ago that you can learn a lot about people by staying silent. They fidgeted nervously before another one spoke up “You stupid or something?” This must have been the leader. He was slightly older than the rest and considerably larger. By Hara’s estimation he was not the smartest, although it was a low bar with this group. Still, he understood why people looked to strength and it wasn’t a bad strategy in Hara's mind.

He looked up from reading the piece of paper and gave him a disapproving glare before continuing to read the slip. The leader didn’t take kindly to that, feeling the challenge to his authority, he stepped forward in an attempt to be intimidating. Hara was too lost in thought about the mission to care, he considered doing the panhandling, but only briefly. Maybe it was the Hyuuga pride, or arrogance, but he felt it was beneath him. Hara had a better idea.

“Listen here dummy” The man stepped closer to Hara. “If you can’t do it then you're wasting our time.” By now the leader was inches away from Hara, and he poked his chest “And my times valuable, so either give me what you have or go make me 500 ryo right fucking n-”

The leader's words were cut off by a resounding snap and a deafening silence as the man looked down to see his hand bent at an impossible angle pointing at himself now. His men backed up in stunned silence and the leader began to scream, the scream being cut off as Hara unloaded a series of strikes, twice into his chest with his palms- knocking the air out of each lung- and one to the temple with his elbow, knocking him out. He fell unceremoniously to the ground.

The silence sat thick in the air as Hara stepped over the body of the unconscious leader. He loomed over them and stared each of them in the eyes.

“Listen, I am in charge now.”

Hara counted out the remaining 1000 ryo as the final gang member returned from their panhandling. They stood there at attention, the leader still unconscious sitting in a chair. Hara took a moment to put the ryo in his wallet. He stared at them in silence before nodding and moving to leave, only pausing at the leader, pulling 1 ryo out and stuffing it in his pocket.
