Kekkei Genkai Training. (Please Check.) Empty Kekkei Genkai Training. (Please Check.)

He inhaled and exhaled the calm and cold air blowing around the mountains of Kumogakure no Sato. He felt at peace in the village, his heart beat for the village. This was a place he’d give up his life for over and over if he could. His blood boiled with rage at the thought of how Konohagakure had just showed and caused so much damaged and destruction, with both of village losing their Kage. It made him sick just thinking about the fact that he wasn’t even there at the start of the battle, and even when he did arrive to try and help solve the battle he failed in doing so. He wasn’t strong enough to end the battle with force, and his words didn’t carry enough weight with them to make those ignorant shinobi of Konohagakure understand what he was even trying to say. He had tried to make peace those dishonorable shinobi and they had tossed the idea of peace aside and it cost the Raikage his life, something that should have never had to happen.

It was for this reason, for the rage that burned inside of him for his village’s sadness, that he knew he had to awaken his Kekkei Genkai, the Kenseigan. His father had tried a few times before his death to teach Kursiu how to activate the Doujutsu that was their Kekkei Genkai. The memories were still a painful reminder of the last time that Konohagakure had inflicted damage upon Kumogakure, with the near complete elimination of the Ametsuchi Clan, with Kursiu accidently surviving because he had not been in the area at the time. Twice he had failed to prevent Konohagakure from committing terrible and dishonorable crimes and both times he knew that it wouldn’t have matter if he was present or if he arrived early, the fact reminded simple; he was too weak to stop the shinobi of Konohagakure and that had to change.

[Flashback 3 Years ago, Kursiu and his father Jimu.]

“Okay son, you’ve got to get the hang of focusing the flow of your chakra to your eyes. That is the basic key activating a Doujutsu and in this case it’ll activate the Kenseigan.” Jimu told his son, Kursiu. He brought his hands together and paused for a moment, letting his eyes close. “It’s all about focusing for a moment and after a while it gets easier to do it more quickly.” He explained, opening up his eyes to reveal the Kenseigan. His eyes had changed, the pupil shrinking in size while light blue lightning bolt patterns shot filled the rest of the iris area of the eyes. “You try.” He calmly said, having some confidence in his son.

Kursiu had paid very close attention to what his father had told him. He might have been ten years old, but his father had been teaching him all about the shinobi world, including chakra and jutsu knowledge, almost since he old enough to walk. He understand the basic idea of chakra control and how the flow of chakra can mean the difference between performing a successful jutsu and failing to perform a jutsu correctly. He had mostly dealt with the flow require when performing hand seals so flowing chakra to his eyes didn’t seem like it would all that difficult but it was a different experience and something that he had never attempted before. “Alright, here it goes.” He said, closing his eyes and allowing his flow of chakra to divert slightly to his eyes. At first it seemed like it was going to work but he still wasn’t sure how exactly he was going to ‘activate’ the Kenseigan itself. Putting some chakra flow into his eyes was one thing but performing a Doujutsu with it was another situation altogether. Just when he felt like he was going to succeed, the chakra flow proved to be off balance, his eyes began to hurt and he had to stop flowing the chakra towards them. “Ow, that didn’t work.” He said, squinting his eyes to try and relieve some of the pain he was feeling.

He father laughed some at the failed attempt. “Okay, before you try again, it only takes a very small dose of chakra flowing to the eyes to get it started. Too much will make your eyes hurt, or worse it can make you go blind.” He remarked, the last part of his statement wasn’t very serious as it would take an incredible flow of chakra to the eyes to actually cause blindness, but he wanted to make sure Kursiu understood the fact that it wouldn’t take very much to get started at activating the Kekkei Genkai. He hoped that putting a little fear into his son would help spark the Kenseigan’s activation, of course Kursiu would have to master the chakra flow to his eyes first.

“Alright Dad, I got it. Just a little flow of chakra.” He replied, keeping in mind that if he put too much he could go blind. Although he didn’t know how much would be too much he was scared of losing his eyesight, which was something he definitely felt that he could not live without. He put his hands together to help control his chakra flow a little better and closed his eyes again. This time when he let some of his chakra flow to his eyes he only allowed a small amount of chakra to seep into them, and that prevented his eyes from aching due to an overflow of chakra. Even though he had seemingly figured out the right amount of chakra to flow to his eyes without causing damage, there was still no change to his eyes that he could feel. He knew it was going to be hard to achieve the Kekkei Genkai of his clan, but it at the moment it seemed like it would be impossible. He still wasn’t sure how he was going to make his eyes change to take on the form that his father’s had taken. He couldn’t even figure out how to make the chakra that was flowing into his eyes change. Realizing that he needed to conserve chakra for another attempt, he stopped the flow of chakra to the eyes. “Dad, I don’t know how to actually activate the Kenseigan, this time I didn’t put enough chakra to cause my eyes any pain so what am I suppose to do now?” he questioned, unsure of what it was really going to take to activate the Kenseigan.

His father let out a small sigh. This was progress, but it was still not quite there. He knew he’d have to really find a way to explain to his son how to activate the Kenseigan. He could barely remember activating his own Kenseigan as he had done long ago when he was nearly Kursiu’s age. One thing he remember was just how difficult it was to make the Kenseigan activate even after he had figured out the necessary amount of chakra that his eyes needed in order to sustain the Kenseigan and therefore make it work properly. Pausing to find the words he needed to tell his son he finally thought of something that could work, albeit it was a simple idea and might not be the problem at all. “Are you sure you’re not using too small of an amount of chakra? Too much is a bad thing, but too little and you have no chance of activating any type of Doujutsu, let alone the Kenseigan.” He remarked, realizing that his son might’ve took the idea of using too much chakra too far and wasn’t using enough anymore. “Try finding a perfect balance between the two and it should help.” He asserted in an encouraging manner.

Kursiu didn’t feel discouraged at all with his father being the one that was training him, but it was completely frustrating that he had used too much and then probably used too little. He wasn’t sure how he was going to find some sort of balance between the two and somehow activate the Kenseigan, but he knew his dad would help him master the Kekkei Genkai somehow. “Alright, I’ll try it again.” He asserted, his voice not lacking confidence as he told himself it would work this time. He wasn’t going to even acknowledge the idea of failing. He closed his eyes yet again, and put his hands together focusing on his chakra flow very carefully. He slowly let some chakra flow into his eyes and hesitated when he reached the same amount he had just previously flowed into his eyes. It seemed like the perfect amount but last time it didn’t activate the Kekkei Genkai so he immediately realized that his dad was probably correct about him using too small of an amount of chakra to make the Kenseigan activate. Care as to avoid using enough chakra to make his eyes lose their precious eyesight, he allowed some more chakra to flow into his eyes. His eyes felt different, it wasn’t that they hurt at all but it also didn’t feel like he had activated his Kekkei Genkai. This feeling did in fact feel like it was without a doubt the correct amount of chakra to use in his eyes, clearly the only problem that he could tell remained was the process of activating the Kenseigan. Opening his eyes in frustration he looked at his Dad’s Kenseigan active eyes. “Why won’t it activate? I know for sure I got the right amount of chakra that time Dad, I just know it.” He pleaded, insisting that he was right about the chakra amount and that all he had to do was go through the actual activation of the Kekkei Genkai. “Is there anything else that could help?” he questioned, looking for any answer that could help him succeed.

His father dwelled on the question for a second, thinking back to the time when he was younger and he himself had activated the Kenseigan. Finally he had a moment of clarity, remembering what it took to activate the Kenseigan. War, it had changed him when he was younger and the emotional hardship that came with being alive during a time of war had caused him to desire newfound power and strength. Even after developing a strong sense of chakra control and being able to almost perfectly control his flow of chakra he was still unable to activate the Kenseigan. It was only after he had failed to succeed in battle during the war that caused him even determination to fully activate the first stage of the Kekkei Genkai. He started to wonder if he was trying to have Kursiu develop the Kenseigan too early, that perhaps his son would have to wait a few more years before activating the Kenseigan would be possible. Finding the right words to say he finally responded to his son. “It won’t be easy at all to activate. You’re going to have to have strong determination and powerful willpower.” He stated, trying not only to help his son activate the Kenseigan, but also trying to help his son grow up to be a strong and great man that people could look up to and respect.

A fire ignited deep inside of him, taking everything that his father had just told him and taking into his heart. He had never question his father about being respectful to gain respect and to never punish those who didn’t deserve the punishment. This was a new lesson though, one that would help him become strong. He could feel the determination and willpower that his father talked about, feeling the desire to become a great shinobi just like everyone in his family. He had grown to love challenges and the idea of overcoming those obstacles that he faced which lead to his willpower being strong to withstand failure while his determination made him overcome the failure. He’d activate the Kenseigan, he just knew it. “Alright Dad, I think I know what you’re talking about. I’ll get it this time.” He asserted with full confidence in his ability to succeed in this task.

He closed his eyes again, his hands coming together once more. ‘This time, it’ll work.’ He thought to himself, letting his chakra flow towards his eyes. It took a minute to get the right amount of chakra to be in his eyes and when it finally got to that point, he kept the flow consistent with the amount he needed. At first it seemed like it wasn’t going to succeed, but he ignored the thought of failing and continued to focus on the idea of activating his Kekkei Genkai. Suddenly he felt a tingle of lightning based chakra flow quickly through his body and into his eyes and then seemingly vanishing. He opened his eyes up again and this time they matched his father’s eyes, the pupil shrinking down in size with lightning patterns filling up the rest of the iris. It lasted basically a mere second of time and suddenly his eyes reverted back to their normal icy blue color and the pupil had also gone back to itself normal size. It had taken a lot out of him to try and activate the Kekkei Genkai, using up quite a bit of his chakra levels due to the effect of the first failed attempt and then this near success. He felt fatigued and nearly fell to the ground passed out. “I feel kind of dizzy.” He barely managed to say.

“Don’t worry son, you’ll get it one day. All you have to do is never quit and continue working at it." His father said with a soft smile. He walked over and picked Kursiu up, putting his son on his back. “Let’s go home, we’ll try again another day.”

[End of Flashback.]

That painful memory was nearly the last one he had of his father and of the good times that existed before all this conflict and chaos that seemed to be overtaking the Shinobi World. Without enough power and skill it would be difficult to survive the impending battles that would take place soon. He stood on top the mountain peak, looking at the village of Kumogakure no Sato. The words of his father bellowed in his mind. ‘Strong determination and powerful willpower.’ He thought to himself, realizing the deeper meaning in the words. Those qualities would not only help him activate his Kekkei Genkai but it would also be required traits to have in order to survive war in the Shinobi World. He closed his eyes and put his hands together, his focus was clear and his resolve was strong. He perfectly flowed the needed amount of chakra into his eyes and paused for a moment, calming himself into a relaxed state. Within seconds he felt the tingle of lightning based chakra travel through his body and into his eyes, and just as quick as the tingle feeling had arrived the feeling disappeared but the result was a success.

He opened his eyes, feeling a slight difference about them. The pupils had shrunken down and lightning bolt patterns filled up the iris of his eyes. He could feel the lightning chakra in his body even more than before, as if he was nearly one and the same with his lightning nature. Lightning surged through his muscles for a moment, helping increase his reflexes. He thrust his hand out, noting to himself that his speed had in fact increased from the Kenseigan’s Stage one activation. This was the power of the Kenseigan’s first stage, the power to not only increase the power of lightning chakra but to also increase the reactions of his muscles making himself faster with the Kekkei Genkai activated. He closed his eyes and cut off the chakra flow, deactivating the Kenseigan. ‘I did it Dad.’ He thought to himself, knowing that the Kenseigan would help him reach his goals and survive in the Shinobi World.
