Navi's E-Rank Mission: Weeding

So his second mission began, another E-rank mission. This time it was pulling weeds, a far less gratifying mission then making toys for orphans. At least it paid more. Navi headed over to the old woman's house to begin the mission. Taking a break from his training to pick weeds seemed like a huge waste of time. A mission was still a though. It was his duty as a ninja to see a mission through to the end, even if it seemed like a waste of time. Navi hoped to get this mission over quickly to get back to his training. When he arrived at the garden he didn't bother telling the old lady he was there. He immediately crouched down and went to work.

Navi had to be careful, he had read the details of this dull mission carefully. He couldn't pull up any of the plants or vegetables or he would risk losing pay. This especially peeved him because it meant he couldn't rush the mission to get back to training, he would have to take the time to pull each weed carefully and make sure it wasn't meant to be there. Navi started at one corner of the garden and started parting his way through the plants. Before pulling them he would dig slightly around the root to tell if it was growing any sort of vegetables or budding any flowers on the stem. It was going to be tedious and annoying work. Starting with the first row, Navi went and pulled three weeds. He stopped to check each plant carefully after he finished and made sure every weed was pulled. On to the next row then, Navi crouched down and started pulling each weed, careful to not pull any plants. For the first time he ran into a strange weed with thorns. Every time he tried to touch it pricked him and he winced in pain. Time to use slightly more extreme measures then. Navi stabbed into the root of the weed with a kunai. After a few more slashes he was able to pull up the root and immedately threw it out.

The next rows were easier, as long as he kept his focus and only pulled up weeds it would be an easy mission with easier money. He had to dump all of the weeds he pulled into a trash can after every few rows. This job was getting more boring by the second, and Navi grew irritated that he couldn't be using the precious daylight for harder training. He was going to be a genin soon, he was already surpassing nearly everyone at the academy. He began to day dream while he worked, thinking of the next steps on his path to being a ninja. He would have to work on stamina and strength more. Then maybe he could focus on learning a new technique. By that time maybe he could be given a little more responsibility with a slightly more difficult mission. Even one that allowed him to leave the village for awhile would be an improvement. While day dreaming Navi maintained focus, but worked quickly to get the job done. It took him a lot longer then expected but at least the mission was finished. He hadn't pulled up any vegetables and he had succeeded in completing his second mission.
