Their First Mission: Navi and Akina Private/NoKill
Tue Jul 24, 2012 2:23 am
Navi rubbed his eyes and yawned. It was the beginning of the day and the sun was just coming up. Navi leaned against one of the gates as he waited for Akina to show up. He had told her to meet him here early in the morning in preparation for a dangerous mission.
Navi had recently become a Genin and had become much stronger since. His headband was fastened tightly on his forehead and he had a ninjato (in its sheath) strapped to his back. He also had brought along two kunai knives and a length of ninja wire he had bought.
Navi scuffled through his bag in preparation for the mission. There were three options he had narrowed it down too. When Akina arrived he would tell her to pick one. He took out each scroll and scanned over the details. After some thought, he picked one.
Out of the three Navi preferred the third one, it would be their first mission together and jumping into an A-rank might be a bit hasty. The B-rank one still had a large payout though and could provide some interesting action.
He put the mission details away and stretched his body. Then he closed his eyes and fell into a half-sleep as he slumped against the village gate.

Akina walked back to the place where she was supposed to
meet Navi. Her step was nervous and her
hands gripped the obento that her aunt had packed them both tightly. She had wanted to make the food herself, but
after her aunt made a joke that they would make a good couple, Akina ran from
the kitchen while blushing furiously.
She sighed as she looked up to the sky and noticed that there was nice
weather again today. Her mind wandered
to the mission that Navi said they would be undertaking today. The prospect of undertaking a mission made
the girl excited and scared all at the same time. The headband that hung around her neck
suddenly felt like a dead weight Akina did not want to bear, but when she
looked down at it and saw that it was glistening in the sunlight, she smiled.
Looking up, she saw Navi in the distance and started waving.
“Hello, Navi-san. Ba-san packed obento
for us.” She smiled warmly as she sat down next to him, waiting for him to
speak or make some type of motion that would indicate what would be happening
for the day. She bowed politely as she
set the obento down next to the boy.

Navi blinked awake from his half-sleep to see Akina sitting next to him offering breakfast. "Am I dreaming..." he murmured. Navi snapped awake a second later. "Oh h-hey Akina, thank you so much for the food". He bowed his head quickly and accepted, trying to hide his embarassment.
Navi stood up and took a small bite. "Alright..." he said after swallowing. "I'll tell you while we walk, we have to hurry or we'll be late". Navi started walking out of the leaf village and motioned for her to follow. "We're supposed to escort a caravan from Tanzaku town to the Skyscraper village. The mission is a B-rank one, which means bandits and other ninja will probably attack. We can't let them destroy the caravan or kill anyone in it."
Navi took another bite and then a deep breath. "This is the first time we're going to be fighting together." His voice took a serious tone. "I vow to protect you with my life, we're comrades now and need to be careful, especially if we're going to see enemy ninja".
They were getting close to Tanzaku town before Navi added a last comment. "You may have to use lethal force."

Akina bit her lip slightly as she watched Navi wake from his
sleep somewhat drowsily. She supposed
that she could have laughed at the fact that he thought she was part of his
dream, but as she saw him sit up and blush a little, she decided against the
action. As the boy grabbed the obento, a
small smile came across her lips. She
knew that it was traditionally the food that was consumed for the lunch time
meal, but she ignored that fact and remained quiet, saving her food for
later. She quietly followed him, listening
to what their mission would be, feeling more nervousness rise in her
stomach. Suddenly, she was amazed that
the boy could be eating at all.
The girl nodded briefly when she heard Navi’s comment about
protecting her with his life. It was an
unstated notion that as her brother of the Leaf she was obligated to do the
same for him. Her body bowed slightly,
revealing the formality of her training in the Hyuga house. “I understand, and I will do my best in this
mission.” Her voice was very quiet, and it trembled slightly.
As they walked toward a new town, Akina realized that this
was the first time she would be leaving the village. Sure, she had been to the borders of Konoha,
but she had never actually left her home town.
It was not quite as grand as she had always imagined. There was no one around to tell her farewell
or good luck on the mission, and a small pain entered her chest and mixed with
her other emotions of nervousness and excitement. Silvery eyes looked over to Navi and seemed
to be questioning if he had ever been on missions before. A sigh escaped her lips softly as a gentle
breeze blew past her, causing the trees to whisper gentle sentiments in her
ears. At least it is a peaceful day to be leaving the village. I just hope things can stay that way. I’ve always been told not to be afraid of
killing a man, but the truth is, I would rather not cause them too much
pain. It just doesn’t seem right for one
to take the life of another so nonchalantly… As these thoughts passed
through her head, her eyes were cautiously taking in her surroundings. Technically, Navi and she should have still
been safe, but if some thugs had caught wind of the caravan’s schedule, there
was no telling what could happen.

Navi scarfed up the last of the food and arrived with Akina at Tanzaku Town. They were to protect the caravan on its journey from here to the Skyscraper village. When they arrived at the caravan they introduced themselves politely. The leader of the caravan had a scowl on his face. "We're under the protection of two Genin? Psh.. I could do a better job myself".
Navi hid his feeling of disgust for the man's ignorance and as the caravan departed for the Skyscraper Village, he walked side by side with Akina. It was his first time outside the village, and he shared the strange feeling with her. This wasn't a time for sightseeing though, this mission was B-ranked because they were sure to be under attack, which meant he had to have his guard up. He felt confident with Akina at his side though. She was a powerful and strong willed girl, even if she didn't give that impression.
As he walked, his right hand dangled next to his kunai pouch and he twitched nervously whenever so much as a rabbit scurried by. They would have a bit of a journey ahead of them so Navi tried to strike up conversation with some of the caravan travelers. Whenever he tried they just grunted or mumbled something about him being a stupid kid. Navi hid his anger very well, but Akina could probably tell he was boiling inside.
Somewhere up on the road ahead there seemed to be a few strange, shadowy figures that Navi couldn't quite make out yet. The sun glared in his eyes and he would need to get closer to see them clearly.
He gripped the hilt of his sword as they approached the ominous men.

Akina took in the caravan and found herself hiding a grimace or two. The men grouped around the cargo they were transporting did not look very friendly. The Hyuga girl’s suspicions were proved correct, much to her dismay, when the apparent leader of the small group of people spat out a harsh, “Genin”. Her eyes lowered to the ground instinctively; if the men wanted to be left alone, then she would give them as much space as she could. However, this little upset would not stop her from putting her life on the line for these men and the caravan when it was necessary. Her mouth tightened into a firm line.
As the group walked to Skyscraper Village, more harassment seemed to ensue from the ingrates that made up the people traveling with the caravan. It was grating at Akina, especially when her friend Navi was only trying to be nice to the others. The girl noted that the boy was managing to hide his anger well, and he no doubt could have sensed the same from her. The girl had decided to just grin and bear it, because she was sure that no matter how rude these men were being now, their tune would change when they were inevitably attacked or when they found them safe at their destination. As she encouraged herself, she was taking in her surroundings, and she took careful notice of how fidgety Navi was with his kunai pouch.
It seemed as though her self-encouragement and Navi’s fidgeting had paid off, because Akina was taking a battle position as Navi did the same. She nodded to her comrade as the men came into view. She was already allowing her chakra to flow through her subtly, though her anger was making controlling the chakra somewhat difficult.
The caravan men seemed to eye her and the other men nervously. It seemed their talk was very cheap compared to her burning anger and silent resolve. Since she was still fairly level headed, the girl decided to wait on Navi’s reaction toward the men before making an action of her own. After all, there could be more men surrounding them in the area, and Akina had to be careful of how she moved, or she might damage the cargo or hurt one of the men. A slight smirk briefly touched her face. The robbers had chosen the wrong day.

Navi grabbed the hilt of his sword and rushed forward, the first few moments of this fight would be positioning. Navi was a close range fighter, and Akina's gently fist also needed close range. They needed to get closer if they wanted a chance in this fight. Navi rushed forward and drew his sword now, grasping it firmly in his right hand. One of the bandits in front of him performed a few handsigns and small boulders came out of the ground and flew at him. Earth Style huh, Navi thought as he bounded over and quickly side stepped each attack.
When he was within point blank range he forgot all about the caravan and kept his mind solely on defeating his opponents. He need only to keep Akina in mind so they could synchronize their attacks. Navi lunged forward with a powerful slash aimed for the earth style bandit's chest. There were two other enemies besides this one, each probably had a unique skill or power. Akina would need to be careful against them.
As his slash came closer to connecting with his opponent he glanced back to see where Akina was and how she was doing.

Akina watched as Navi sprang into action. She gritted her teeth and decided to do the
same. She rushed out toward the back of
the caravan. “All of you stay put!” One of the bandits had moved to the
back. It was up to her to pick up what
Navi left behind. She moved beautifully
as she attacked the bandit head on. He sneered as though he would win, but he
was too slow, and she easily gained the upper hand and left him too impaired to
move. She turned and saw that Navi had
the situation under control.
She quietly released her chakra in order to conserve it
while she gave the complainer of the caravan an icy glare. He looked away from her, and she just nodded
her head at Navi. “Let’s get moving
before they get up and think they have enough nerve to test us again.” Her voice
was somewhat icy, but some of her anger at the treatment the caravan people had
been giving them had disappeared. She
sighed slightly as she carried on with her duty, remaining as alert as she
could, while she wondered what the Skyscraper Village would work like. She was hopeful the rest of this mission
would be smooth.

Navi finished off the last of the bandits, ripping his bloody kunai from the last ones throat. It was the first time he had killed, and he felt nothing in doing it. Death was a necessary part of being a shinobi and Navi had accepted that.
He didn't say anything much to Akina or the caravan members as they neared the skyscraper village. The situation was under control and the mission was complete. Navi decided it was time for both of them to head back home.
