Whatever Intentions (Solo, Mission)

Rin was in his apartment, laying on his bed and reading a book. It was some time now since he moved away from the house of his parents, living in his own separate apartment. It wasn't as big as his former home, but it was surely more peaceful, no moms walking around and no noisy neighbors coming just for a small chat. Nobody disturbed him without a good reason and he was allowed to contemplate in his pathetic state of mind. The book he was reading was a fictional story about a traveling swordsman and his female shinobi companion. Rin guessed it would later turn into a romance, as he had already seen the signs, but at the moment they were just partners. He was at the end of second chapter, a second major fight would be coming soon, maybe in the third, but when Rin finished the current chapter he did not eagerly start the next one. For a moment he paused with a confused and lost expression. Right about then he heard someone knocking at his door. It was unusual and one of his eyebrows slightly went up. He would quickly get to the door and open them after asking who is on the other side. It was a fellow Chuunin of his village. He knew him person, the man was teaching youngsters at the Shinobi Academy. From the other man's look Rin understood something was not right, but the man needed to catch his breath before he could explain it. While working hardly on that, he handed Rin a letter - a mission assignment. Feeling both intrigued and reserved Rin read the assignment. It was C ranked, but looked kind of important. Finding a lost Genin.

Rin was now rushing through the woods. He was already a few kilometers away from the village. When the other Chuunin could finally talk, he explained that one of his students who graduated the academy just recently was supposed to come and train with him. The boy never showed up and after 3 hours of him being late, the man decided to investigate. From other people he learned that his student actually left the home to go meet him and some even saw him walking towards the training grounds, but then he pretty much disappeared. Quite fast a several scout teams were sent out and they tracked down a group of rogue ninja's heading away from the village. Then a mission assignment was made and Rin was assigned to go assist the one scout team that is currently tracking the rogues. The objective was kind of clear: get the boy back, kill the rogues if need be. Rin was now getting closer to the group ahead of him. He picked up the pace, jumping from one tree on another, from branch to branch.

He stopped. There was a small clearing in front of him. And the scout team was laying on the ground there. Rin suppressed his urge to get down there and help them. It could easily be a trap. He got to another tree and hid in the leaves, observing the surroundings. There were a few bigger rocks sticking out of the ground in the clearing indicating a possibly usable rocks beneath the soil. But this wasn't much of a bonus for him, he needed water and lucky for him there was a tiny river nearby. Rin jumped down from the tree and approached the river. It was very small, he could not use the water for anything bigger than a clone or a prison. There simply wasn't enough to supply the bigger techniques. The Chuunin made two water clones and made one of them transform into a random Chuunin from the Hidden Mist village. Then he used the chakra suppressor to mask his own chakra signature and hid in the trees, while the clones entered the clearing and approached the scout team. The clone that did not look like Rin stopped and took out a kunai in case of an ambush, while the second one kneeled next to one of the scout and turned him around so see his face. The person was barely alive, but Rin was correct in assuming it was a trap. The scout had three exploding tag attacked to their chest. Four different reactions could be seen at that moment, as the tags lit up indicating they were about to explode. The scout made a guilty look and muttered something about getting out of there, the clone standing guard expressed a surprise-full face and immediately jumped away, while the clone that was too close to get away faintly smile to the man who was about to die and said "I'm sorry." Rin himself had a sorrowful expression, but did not say anything. He expected it might have turned out like this. The explosion thundered, dispelling one of his clones and most likely killing all of the scout team.

Now the clearing was covered in smoke and dust. Rin could not see clearly what was happening, but he heard a metal clash, when someone probably engaged his second clone. He unsheathed his ninjato and prepared one kunai with 5 meter long wire. As the visibility increased and he could finally see what was happening in the clearing, Rin saw them, the enemies - four of them. Two were actively attacking his clone that was about to fail, one guarding the boy and one - probably sensory type not fighting but prepared to assist if needed. The last one was his target. Rin jumped out of the tree right on top of his target. While in the air he threw his wired kunai to entangle the man's arm and as soon as he landed he released his suppressed chakra to confuse the sensory ninja. At this point he could simply kill him, or try to negotiate boy for this man, but he was not going to do that. With a simply hit to the guy's neck, Rin knocked him out and turned to the one guarding the Genin. The rogue was obviously surprised. The Chuunin used Shunshin to quickly get there and landed a few swift slashed with ninjato, not killing but disabling the guard. Right about then his clone was finally defeated. Rin wasted no time, he said "Stay here." to the boy and dashed towards the two remaining ninja, who just now noticed half of their team being down. Assuming of course it was all of them here. But it was a good guess. One of them threw a few kunai with exploding tags. Rin quickly formed the handseals and a rocky wall rose from the ground to shield him from this attack. Just after the explosion he jumped over the wall already forming the seals for his next technique. The water left from the clone was right behind the two and Rin used it to make water needles right before he launched a ninjato slash at one of the rogues. He swung his left arm and the needles sank into one of them, while the other successfully blocked his strike. The rogue would then jump back, leaving his injured friend next to Rin who used this moment and finished the man with a quick ninjato slash at the man's face. When Rin turned to the last one, he saw him forming handseals. Frp, the looks of it the jutsu would be a major one and it needed to be intercepted. "Like I'm gonna let you do that!" he shouted while quickly forming his own handseals. The guy was about to execute when Rin slammed his right palm to the ground causing the land to become unstable beneath his target and forcing him to abort his technique. As the guy was thrown out of balance Rin easily approached him and finished off with a pair of Chakra Cannon strikes. It was over. Now just get the boy, bring him back and report the fatalities.

That night there was a terrible storm in the village. Rin would watch it from behind a window in his apartment. The rain and wind would be scary if he was outside, but in here it was dry and warm. He was reading the next chapter of the book now. As he read about the battle, he would remember what happened that day on the mission, the look of scout team captain as he was about to die. When Rin's clone was destroyed, those images were transferred to him and although he did not give it much thought then, it did now. There was room for blame for him, if he came there sooner he could have prevented deaths of all four scouts. And then with four more people on his side the rogues may have been persuaded to give up, at least some of them. Rin killed two of them. And one was still in coma. The sensory one got quite lucky, although it was unclear what will happen to him now, will the Hidden Mist keep him prisoner or execute him, maybe return him to the village they defected from. If he was to die, Rin hoped it would be quick, as otherwise it may have been better to just kill him back there. Lightning split the sky as he turned another page. The battle was approaching its peak. Main character's girl was pinned down and he was alone versus the enemy team leader. The secret of main character's lineage was about to be revealed... Another lightning.

Next morning Rin got one more assignment. C rank too, but this was a non-combat mission, at least most likely. He was to help in repair of one of the village gates. Apparently it suffered some damage during the night's storm. A lightning had struck the opening mechanism, on top of that a few trees were slammed into the gates, causing the already damage system to break even more. Rin remembered helping with gate repairs before. This time it would be even more difficult as they would need not only replace the control mechanism, but pretty much the whole gates. They started by detaching the gates themselves from the control mechanism that was built with stones into the wall, removing them together would be practically impossible. When they were done, the men split into groups. One was tasked with removing the control system, while others were sent to get new parts and remove the gateway itself. Rin was with the group that was getting new parts. Most of the time he was in the warehouse, telling Genins who were helping them where to look for certain stuff, as he knew his way around the warehouse. When they got everything they needed, he would help carry the last part and head back to the damaged gates. Fortunately because if he was late, he could not have prevented an accident. Someone in the group that was dismantling the gates made a mistake and released their part too soon. Simply put, one of the giant doors started falling and there were people down where it would fall. The object Rin and three others were carrying was quite heavy, but they could manage if he left and even if it fell it would not break or something. He quickly muttered "Hang on, I'll let go..." and dashed off towards the falling gate already forming his hand seals. He now saw that most of the people managed to get away and were no longer at risk, but there were three who would not escape the gate in time. When the seals were done, Rin briefly exhaled in a form of hollow shout and activated the technique. Moment before the gate fell down and killed those three a wall of earth shot from the ground stopping its fall. Rin may have prevented the deaths of the one's now in the shadow of the gate, but it was far from stable. He made few more hand seal and summoned two more walls to hold the gate.

That was the great adventure of the day. He became sort of a hero, although he knew this was nothing and most of the people there have not seen what shinobi are really capable of. They have not seen the battles Rin has. And he knew those were all just minor skirmishes compared to Jounin and Kage level combat. Sometimes such thought would get to him and he would go to train. He felt weak. This time although he had to finish this work. Some of people who labeled him hero said he should take the day off after such a feat, but he knew finishing it up would both improve morale as well as it would feel "right" both to him and those around him, it would not be nice in his part to abuse those he just saved. And he did not.
