Catching some petty thief? Does Konoha not have some kind of police, beside its ninja population? Well, Masaru supposed that few, if any civilians would be able to stand up against any good ninja, and in a village like Konoha, many crimes would probably have some ninja involved in them. Still, it seemed somewhat silly that they had to send ninja out to catch a simple thief. But well, he was a ninja of Konoha, so he would do what was required of him to help keep the village safe. Even though it seemed like a job which was better left for some kind of police.
He had been provided a list of some of those who had been robbed in the past time, and started by going around, questioning them a little. While some of them had had some trouble taking him seriously at first, some small boy going around asking about a thief, they became serious once they saw his headband with the Konoha leaf on it, which Masaru smiled at every time. His hard work had paid off with regards to his becoming genin.
After gathering information from the merchants, Masaru began seeing a pattern, which led him to waiting on the rooftop of a shop. The owner of the shop had agreed to one of Masaru’s ideas. He had let a valuable necklace lay in the shop, in what was out of the sight of the shop owner. As the necklace was worth quite a bit, the merchant had been hesitant at first, but he had been robbed by the thief a few times now, so he would be glad to be rid of him.
What the thief would not be able to see was the piece of wire which was attached to the necklace, which would set off a small, improvised alarm that Masaru had made, consisting of a few kunai hidden in a corner of the shop, which would make quite a noise, should the necklace be removed from its spot. While it would be an inconvenience to someone who might want to actually buy the necklace, it was a necessary evil.
Hopefully, it paid off as well. Half an hour after putting up the trap, Masaru heard what could only be his trap going off, and he saw the thief running down the street, with Masaru’s kunai being pulled by the thief, as of yet not realizing that the necklace had a wire in it, and as such he did not know that it was him the kunai were following.
Masaru let him run for a little while, following him into a part of Konoha which was less crowded, before he descended from the roof of a building, landing a bit in front of the thief, pulling out a kunai, while making a gesture at the necklace. The thief charged at Masaru, thinking that he would be no threat due to his age. Masaru, however, quickly beat the thief in close combat, and had a kunai to the thief’s throat shortly after, and led him to the police station.
