Task: Patrol the village looking for anything suspicious. If you find anything report it to a nearby shinobi immediately.
Maku was patrolling the village in the late afternoon. He had been assigned some basic guard duties around town. Essentially he was on observe and report duty though if you asked him. Being in such a minor village, there wasn’t always enough chunin and jounin to patrol, so the basic patrol of the inner city was left to the genin. During his patrol, he hadn’t really bore witness to anything suspicious as of yet. The sun was going down quickly casting long shadows, the warm breeze kept the chilliness of night at bay for now.
Maku stopped in and got a kabob from a vendor, and talked to him to see if he’d noticed anything odd, however nothing much seemed to be going on. Walking and eating he wondered to himself how other village’s patrols went and if they were as boring as this one. Night had fallen in earnest now. While walking he heard a bit of a crashing sound. Running to investigate, it turned out it was just a cat that had knocked over some glasses out of a trash can. Continuing on, he let out a loud yawn. Stretching, he made his final laps around the market district.
Upon walking he noticed something suspicious finally. A window pane was broken, from the outside in, which meant someone had wanted to get inside. Checking the sign he noticed that it was an antique store. Looking in he noticed 4 individuals, looking through the goods in the store. 4 people, he wasn’t sure if he could apprehend 4 without damage or risking one of them getting away. Looking around he was trying to find if he could get any back up. He knew he needed to be quick; he didn’t want them to get away. Walking around the corner he continued to look for another shinobi to help him. Not finding any he ran back to check on the progress of the thieves. They were moving on with the goods. Using the body flicker technique, he was able to stay ahead of them and follow them from the roof. Finally noticing another shinobi, he had to think quickly to figure out how to keep the thieves from getting away.
Casting the necessary hand signs, he let a piece of paper fall from the sky, the thieves all in unison looked at it. In that instant they saw dark clouds appear and it began to rain over them. The rain seemed to begin to melt the landscape, and scorched their skin. This of course was all an illusion, and a casual observe would be confused why they had stopped running and where now trying to seek shelter and scrape the invisible water off their skin. While the thieves where running crazily, Maku rushed out to find the other shinobi. He quickly relayed the information. The older ninja informed him that his services where no longer needed. The shinobi quickly called others and they all went to apprehend the thieves.
Well what a night. After the thieves had been apprehended he was informed that he would be contacted about receiving a reward for the assistance in the apprehension of the thieves. Though he was slightly scolded for actually interacting with them. He thought this was a bit unfair since, they probably would have gotten away otherwise. O well, Maku thought to himself. This was at least another mission down, and another way to prove his loyalties to the village. Hopefully this would begin to pay off soon. At least the extra ryo would go a long way, in purchasing some new ninja tools, to improve his fighting ability. But for now, he took pride in another successful mission.
