Sensing Chakra (Level Two)
Mon Mar 31, 2014 3:59 am
Aya was sitting on the roof of her always-warm home, watching the sun rise despite the cold. She'd had a nightmare, and therefor couldn't go back to sleep. So, after having some nice and hot tea with extra sugar, she wasn't allowed caffeine, she went up on the roof and watched as the village began to awaken.
The nightmare had been different from the usual ones, granted she didn't have many nightmares to begin with, but had simply had a dose of reality in it. Well, potential reality anyways. She shivered as she remembered being able to sense a large mass of something coming towards her, but she couldn't tell who nor what it was. She never saw her enemy, only felt it tear through her ribcage and lungs and crush her heart. She had awoken then, around four in the morning, and hadn't even tried to go back to sleep.
Idly, she fiddled with her Kumo insignia. Looking down at it as it gleamed proudly in the early stages of the sunrise. It was attached to her belt, as normal, and was the sign that she was technically an adult in the eyes of the law and to the ninja world. She had already mastered the three basics, but she felt as though it wasn't enough. That she hadn't truly earned her headband. Her senses weren't sharp enough, her dream -nightmare- had reminded her of that.
"Well, what better time to change that?" she muttered to herself sardonically. Standing up, she jumped over to the training grounds. When she arrived a tiny voice in her head that whispered 'didn't mother say to be more social?' and Aya curtly responded with 'Can't be social if I'm dead' and promptly went through her exercises.
This one was slightly different from usual. Sure, she did her basic stretches, making sure they were loose and had plenty of blood running through them, but after that she went for a run. Not using her chakra at all, only using the strength of her muscles, she ran around the training ground. Counting her steps, and counting her laps, and then she went to the trees. The redhead still didn't use chakra, but still flew through the trees like a monkey. Swinging from branch to branch, using the limbs of the trees as springboards to launch herself to the next set of trees.
When she finally returned to her original clearing, she was sweating, out of breath and certain that her heart would rupture her lung with how hard and fast it was beating. Her lungs burned, but she felt refreshed and fully awake. She raked her fingers through her wind-kissed hair and laughed breathlessly to herself. She should definitely take more runs, it had felt wonderful to go that fast and have that feeling of wind rushing past you. She didn't know she could go that fast.
Sitting down, she closed her eyes and went through her chakra exercises. She had recently learned Mystical Palm Technique, but she wanted to focus on her chakra sensing skills. Aya pushed a portion of her chakra down to her feet, and a different portion to her hands, and knees, and elbows and shoulders. When she managed to get to her shoulders, she slowly allowed her chakra to flow again, and then stopped it's movement completely. Holding it for thirty seconds, she sent it towards her centre and wrapped it in a tight ball. She wanted to learn how to hide her chakra, but she didn't know how. Perhaps she would ask, maybe an old teacher or one of her relatives would know.
Keeping teal eyes closed, the redhead expanded her chakra as far as they would go. She felt a mass by the restaurant that was frequented by ninja's before and after their training sessions. Some flared slightly, feeling her own chakra, but otherwise ignored her. Which was good. From here, though, Aya was stumped.
How was she supposed to improve her range and proficiency for this particular skill? She tried imagining the chakra signatures singling themselves out, making it easier for her to tell the number of people in that building, but it didn't work. None of her idea's did, and that was quite a few. Huffing in annoyance, Aya opened her eyes and glared at the long shadows that were starting to stretch across the field. She was not leaving until she figured this out!
Angrily, she sent her chakra out quickly. Enough to actually pick up wind, and jolted when she felt her chakra come back to her. Well, some of her chakra, anyway. Blinking at the confusing sensation, the redhead closed her eyes and looked within herself and quickly found her chakra once again. Sending out her chakra, she morphed it into a sort of wave. Like ripples in the water, and sent them out, she felt them bump into some things and return to her. Giving her the location of these little objects. She did this again, and noted how some objects had vanished. Just disappeared. A startled gasp escaped Aya's lips when she realised that the things she was sensing were not object, but people.
"Holy shit" she muttered under her breath. Because damn she had not seen that coming. The sensation of receiving the locations of everything with chakra within such a wide area was a little overwhelming, but she was sure she could handle it for now. And then later grow accustomed to it to the point where it didn't even phase her.
Closing her eyes again, she sent out the ripples once again. This time smaller and thinner and in rapid succession. She could feel the chakra signatures moving, sense where they were going, and continued to follow them until they were out of range. Soon, she was barely even thinking about moving her chakra, and was instead thinking 'what's over there' and then BOOM she would know if someone was there or not.
Aya quickly came up with a little game for herself. She would pick a chakra signature, and follow it until it came to the brink of her range, and then would try and push her senses further. It felt strange, like a sensation that almost felt like pain but it didn't actually hurt, it was just uncomfortable at most. It was weird. Soon, her range began to increase, and she was able to sense more signatures in the area and pick out each and every one of them. Except for the ones that were hiding, in fact one or two would flicker to catch her attention and then vanish, only to pop up somewhere else in her range. It was fun, and made her giggle at how her fellow shinobi were playing with her and helping her.
Finally, she reached the limit of her range, where she couldn't stretch it any farther. Sending her chakra out once more, she focused on how far it could go instead on how many signatures were out there. Fifty metres. She could sense chakra signatures for fifty metres. That was a huge improvement to her original thirty metres, and it made her swell with pride at her accomplishment. Her, a mere genin, had managed to get to the second level of Chakra Sensing. Next she might focus on mastering her Mystical Palm Technique. she heard that those who master it can to it faster, and even heal without actually touching the patient!
Opening her eyes, Aya stood, ready to head home and enjoy something hot to eat to combat the cold that was only now assaulting her skin. Instead, she fell to the ground with a loud 'thump'. For a few seconds the redhead just laid there, completely out of it, before she slowly began blinking away her dizzy spell. Chakra Exhaustion. Aya was becoming increasingly familiar with the sensation, however unpleasant, and was quickly learning that staying down was the best option. At least, until one's stomach began to grumble. Shaking her head at her own thoughts, Aya slowly got up again, and decided to walk home. She belatedly realised she hadn't eaten anything all day, and it was well and truly dusk.
'I'll eat in the morning' she thought as she reached her ever-warm home. Waving tiredly to her mother and other relatives, she went up to her room and shrugged off her clothing. One shower and a change of clothes later, Aya collapsed onto her bed and was out like a light.
