Evaluation

Daiyuki walked in the waiting office of the Kage. He approached the secretary known as Charlotte. As he pulled the folder from his jacket he stretched to hand her the envelope. This would be the 3rd time he had been graced with this woman’s appearance and like the ones before should wouldn’t make eye contact nor would she speak a word she’d simply point to the chair where Daiyuki was supposed to sit and wait.

Maku made a whistle, thus signaling for Charlotte to let Daiyuki enter the office. Upon entering the office, Daiyuki would witness Maku sitting at a low table on a cushion, with another cushion on the opposite side clearly meant for him. Maku waved for the man to be seated.

"Daiyuki Ookami, I will start this meeting as I have started all others. Why should you be a chunin, and what do you have to offer that none other can offer me?"

He had more plans for the boy in front of him, but like everyone else the interview would start the same.

Daiyuki had walked in and taken a seat next to Maku.
Looking around the room through his black and blue wolf porcelain mask, he felt a little unnerved.
 
The fact of the matter is the Kage’s question of “why should he be chunin and what could he offer that none other could offer.”
 
“Well..” He hesitated
 
Why were these things so hard? It was a simple question that required a simple answer.  Daiyuki closed his eyes, hoping the Kage wouldn’t notice due to the mask.
 
Daiyuki had begun to channel himself and understand there was no right answer but the one found in him.
 
 Doing so he spoke “I graduated last in the academy but you already know this, I’m at best the most average genin under you command with a small exception to my ability to transform in a mindless, emotionless killer.” Daiyuki then removed his mask allow Maku to his transfigured, deformed face before speaking again “Despite this unlike any other genin here, I understand the cost of failure”
 
 Daiyuki looked deep into Maku eyes not so much as blinking
 
“Also unlike any other genin here, the only thing I can truly offer is unflinching loyalty and a compulsion to carry out any order given to me regardless of how gentle or bloody it may become”
 
Loyalty that was his answer in what he could offer and Understanding cost was his answer to why he should be chunin. Answers truly befitting his nature.

"Loyalty is a valuable asset indeed, and one that can not be taught. Some have a special gift for it, while others find the concept as difficult as catching smoke barehanded. I ask you Daiyuki, if I asked you to kill a newborn babe still at its mothers breast, would you? You say you would do anything, no matter the task."

Maku respected the mans loyalty indeed. However, the rank of chunin brought about new responsibilities. They have to lead a squad and make decisions that are not only best for themselves but the group as a whole.

Daiyuki listened to Maku as the question of would he kill an infant proceed from his mouth.  Without hesitation nor a slight pause after the question was asked Daiyuki responded with “Yes sir, no problem”
 
His answer was cold and straightforward with no explanation. His eyes didn’t teeter away from the kage.  In fact his glare would be blink that the emotionless vague response would seem almost robotic in an effect.
 
Daiyuki didn’t need to access his humanity, because apart from his relationship with Kanae he was first and foremost an animal in mind and spirit. He begun to think about the question a little deeper and the thought of sinking his teeth in the infant’s fragile body and shaking it until it became lifeless sent a shocking sadistic smile across his face that would quickly vanish as he remembered who’s presence he was in.

Daiyuki's answer was what he had anticipated hearing. When a man submits himself to the beast it is easy to expect beastly behavior. Maku sat back and contemplated this response and what to do. Such an attitude had merit in its own way. It struck Maku that, this boy in front of him would do well with traveling with Youka. The traveling murder priest could teach the boy much, though Daiyuki tried to hide it, Maku could sense the joy coming off of him at the idea.

This world had many forbidden pleasures to it. almost so taboo that one should never speak of them. Indeed the msot important thing someone with these appetites can do is learn to repress and control such feelings. Daiyuki was one of his favorite genin, but was he worthy of being a chunin at the moment. Maku wasn't sure still.

He would wait and watch the tournament, and weigh the options carefully. He hadn't needed to really speak to Daiyuki much, because of all the genin he was the easiest to read, and the one that Maku knew the most about between his own interactions and the reports filed by Kiranomo and Youka.

"Daiyuki, your answer was alright. The world needs men who are willing to do the disgusting jobs that others may turn their nose up at. However I would make one suggestion. In the future if someone asks you to perform such a job, your response should be "Yes, but how much?". Hide your deadly urges, and funnel them into raising your station above others. You are free to go. Prepare yourself for the tournament."

This concluded all of the meetings it would seem. He had several good options to choose from. In the end, the tournament would allow him the time he needed to make his final decision.

Daiyuki had grabbed his masked and placed it on his face.  He bowed as he left the Kage’s presence, something he thought he should do.
 
Daiyuki walked out of the office and eventually out of the building where he was met by Shiroi and Kuroi his wolf ninken, “How’s it going boss” asked Shiroi “What’s up Boss” asked Kuroi as well.
“Come, we have training to do” Daiyuki said walking past them in a cold manner
 

Exchanging awkward look the wolves complied, as it was Daiyuki’s will to serve his Kage as so it was for them to serve Daiyuki.

Maku watched the boy leave from his window.  So many decisions to be made.  All three showed merit, and all three showed potential to rise form this harsh land and make a name for themselves.  Names written in red across the snow using the blood of the villages enemies as ink.  Maku would be certain when this was over to pick the best for chunin.
