Another day at the library and Makussu was attempting to find a new book to read, in hopes of possibly finding another jutsu. He nonchalantly flicked his hands across the shelves, looking for no book in particular until his hand suddenly stopped on one he didn’t recognize. “Techniques for Beginners: A Must for all Beginning Shinobi. Cliche title, but I’ll check it out.” He walked up to the counter, book in hand. “Hello, I’d like to check out this book.” he said, giving a small grin alongside it. The women recognized him from the day before and gave him a small smile back. “I see that you’re already back at the library! You must be an avid reader. Well, you’re books checked out, but keep it safe because unlike the last one that one’s not going to the scrap heap.” she said, making emphasis on the last part just in case. “ I know, he responded, I’m normally careful with my books.” He waved goodbye and exited the library and started his run towards the training grounds once more to read his book in private. Arriving at the training grounds he plopped down next to his favorite tree. Suddenly his eyes widened at how much jutsu were in the book. Clone Technique, Substitution Jutsu, it not only mentioned them but told how to perform them! He sighed at the missed opportunity to have learned two of the academy three but suddenly perked up as the list continued, showing not only one but two skills he had yet to learn. “Tree climbing and Transformation, he murmured, well I know what I’m working on today. He started reading again for a couple more minutes until he closed the book and placed it a few feet away from the tree, not wanting to land on it if anything went wrong, which it probably would. “Sorry old friend, but I’m going to have to walk on you for a bit.” he said, as began to focus chakra into his feet, as per the instructions of the book, and placed his foot on the trunk, tentatively placing his other foot on the trunk. To his surprise it held, but he could only make it up another two feet before the chakra in his feet dissipated and he fell back to earth on his back, being too low to curl up in time. Hr groaned and stood up, not bothering to brush the dust from his clothes as they would inevitably get dirty. He tried again, sending more chakra through his legs, sending him up a few more feet before he lost control and fell back down. He repeated this process over and over until he finally stopped to review his findings. “I’ve been applying the same amount of chakra to both legs...but they don’t use the same amount of chakra in the same amount of time….oh come on I forgot to monitor the chakra amount!” he said, the annoyance clear in his voice. Sending what he found to be the best amount of chakra into his voice, he started up the tree, checking his chakra levels and attempting to refill them when they got low, which was more complicated than it sounded because he had to refill his reserves while at the same time channeling into the tree. He fell the first couple of times, but eventually found it was much easier to simply have a constant trickle of chakra instead of giving sudden bursts. That was when he finally reached the branch that was twenty feet in the air, without using any kind of civilian climbing techniques at all. He cheered, but quickly steadied himself as he began to fall off the branch from the weight he put on it. He quickly walked down the tree, a slightly nauseating experience, but quickly righted himself and returned to his book. After a quick review on what he had learned on the technique from the academy and a bit more, he began to perform the technique. First, he had to picture someone in his minds eye, as a subject for the technique. He chose his father for this, envisioning his dark brown hair, light blue eyes, and simple blue short sleeve shirt with long black pants. Sending chakra to his arms in a similar way as he did for the Clone Jutsu, he yelled out the technique. “Transformation Jutsu!” He was enveloped by smoke, and suddenly he seemed to be wearing different clothes. He picked up the book and started running, keeping his illusion running until he arrived at a nearby lake. There he looked at his reflection and noted that everything was okay with his transformation, probably due to working with the clone technique, except for one glaring difference. His father was one full foot taller than him, but the one staring at him from the water’s surface was his height. He dispelled the technique and started over. He once more envisioned his father’s appearance clothing, but also noted this such as height and length of limbs. Going through the hand seals and yelling “Clone Jutsu!” He was enveloped in smoke once more. Once it dissipated he looked over himself once more and found no discrepancies, either from coloring or proportions. Now came the real challenge. Pulling off his shirt, he prepared himself to get wet. According to the book, to walk on water was slightly harder than tree climbing due to the chakra needing to be adjusted separately to each foot. He stepped onto the water, and only walked out a few feet into the lake before he felt a shift below his left foot and before he could account for it he sunk below the surface soaking his sandals, but thankfully his shorts managed to remain dry. He trudged towards the surface, determined to see how much chakra he would need to successfully balance himself. He repeated the process once more, pushing more chakra into his left foot keeping him above the surface, not expecting the next sudden change to come only moments after, causing him to fall into the water. Eventually he can to the same conclusion he found with the trees, except modified. He would trickle chakra through his system constantly, so that is would be much easier to get the needed extra to stay afloat and supply the technique for chakra. He tested this theory, walking out onto the water with chakra already flowing and found it much easier to stay afloat. Walking out into the lake and back, he cheered at his successful attempt in not falling back into the lake and quickly put his shirt back on so he could go back to the library to return the book. Walking into the streets of Konoha with still dripping shorts raised him some glances, but he didn’t care. He had learned two new techniques, and to him, that made for a good day.
