Mist By the Lake [IO]
Fri Jan 20, 2017 7:53 am
Komori had woken up that morning, and gone into the kitchen to prepare himself some breakfast before heading to the training grounds. However, his twin brother Komon was still sleeping, so he decided to make them both breakfast. After he finished his meal, he left a cloth over a bowl reserved for Komon in order to trap in the heat and keep its contents warm. He slid his hoodie on over his shirt and headed towards his favorite spot in the Village Hidden in the Clouds. He did not particularly have a plan for the day, but instead decided to sit near the edge of his favorite lake. Komori picked up a stone near him and decided to skip the stone across the pond. Nothing spectacular happened, as the stone merely made two bounces before falling into the lake itself. He longed for the rain, but since there were people around and he was not a total prick, he decided not to shower the village in a one mile radius, as he so often did. Instead, he tried to use the Hidden Mist jutsu without using a handseal. He closed his eyes and opened them, only to find that nothing had happened as of yet. He hung his head and sighed before merely using the tiger seal associated with the Hidden Mist jutsu to cause the area around the lake to be coated in a thin layer of fog, as he still wanted to be able to see the water itself.

Sakana Meijin woke up and did his morning routine of shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, etc. Then he helped out Kaigo with deliveries at shop. At his last stop he realized he was close to the lake he's always wanted to check out. There was something odd about the lake though, it was covered in a thin layer fog. This was weird because the rest of the village was clear. Figuring he didn't need have to be at the ninja training grounds today he would go check out the lake and maybe he would train later. Sakana makes his way up to the lake and wonders why people don't come here more often. It looks like a perfect play to train or even just relax. But upon further investigation Sakana saw a boy at the edge of the lake skipping rocks. This surprised Sakana because he's never heard anyone talk of this lake and thought it was abandoned. Sakana had never seen this boy before and wanted to introduce himself. So he walks up to the boy sitting on the ground, extends his hand and says, “Hi, I'm Sakana Meijin.”

Komori was off in his own world, as he had let the calm nature of the lake overtake him, so when the other boy walked up to him and introduced himself, Komori was taken aback. He did not think that anybody could have seen him in the Hidden Mist jutsu, before remembering that he had not made it as dense as he could have. “Oh, hi, didn’t see you there.” Komori grabbed the boy’s hand and used it to pull himself up from the ground, which the other genin probably did not anticipate. He then turned it into a handshake for the greeting before withdrawing his arm and pointing to his chest in a rather cocky manner. “Name’s Komori Hozuki.” Thinking about how odd it made their conversation appear, Komori dispelled the mist around him.

Yūgure had meant to wake up early and so that he could spend the day at the training fields practicing his jutsu, but when he finally rolled out of bed and checked the clock he found that he'd slept much later than he'd intended. Yūgure rushed around his apartment, getting dressed and ready as quickly as he could manage. He threw on his usual outfit, his headband, and grabbed his gear before rushing out to the fields. As he rushed out to the training fields, he found himself wondering about what jutsu he was going to practice today. He decided that he was going to work on his technique with his ‘Immaterial Sword’ unless something else happened to come up. As he headed to the fields, Yūgure stumbled across a small path that he hadn't seen before. He followed it for a while before discovering a lake, and upon his arrival Yūgure saw a young ninja talking to what appeared to be Kōmon Hyuga, the gennin that had taught him the Eight Trigrams: 64 Palms technique. Yūgure dashed over and yelled a greeting to his friend “Hey Kōmon! It's Yūgure! What are you doing all the way out here”

As Sakana was helping Komori get up he noticed the ninja headband hanging around his neck. He concluded that Komori was probably a gennin like himself. Then once Komori dispersed the mist Sakana realized it was not a weird coincidence that the mist was in a secluded location, Komori must have put it there somehow. As he looked at Komori he said, “How did you make the mist appear and disappear?” Sakana was going to ask another question but another ninja was calling out to Komori although he called him Komon for some reason. Sakana now had a confused look on his face as the boy named Yūgure was walking towards them.

Komori had opened his mouth to begin answering the question which Sakana had presented, but instead was cut off by a boy that he did not recognize. The new arrival referred to him as “Komon” which probably meant that this other genin knew his twin brother. Komori diverted his gaze from Yugure to look back at Sakana before saying, “It’s called Hidden Mist jutsu. I can show you how it works if you’d like, just give me a second to clear things up with this guy.” Komori then turned his attention to the Hyuuga that had walked up to him, who might have become confused, as Komori did not possess a matching pair of byakugan or the scar that covered a small portion of Komon’s face. He began addressing him, “I happen to be much better looking than Komon, for the record. I’m his identical twin brother, Komori. And you are?”

Yūgure was shocked to find out that Kōmon had an identical twin, and couldn't even tell the difference between the two at first. But when looked closely at Komori he could tell that he was significantly uglier, his face kinda looked like it went through a woodchipper. But he seemed like a nice enough guy, and Yūgure felt a twinge of guilt for accidentally interrupting his…. whatever it is he was doing with a small boy in the woods. Yūgure introduced himself, as Komori was apparently too oblivious to notice that Yū had already yelled out his own name earlier. “Hey, I'm Yūgure Hyuga. I'm an acquaintance of your brother’s, he's taught me a few Hyuga techniques. It's a pleasure to meet you.” Yūgure then turned his head towards the other boy and asked his name “What's your name kid? It's great to meet you too”

“I'm Sakana Meijin, nice to meet you.” Yūgure’s interruption killed Sakana’s train of thought. He noticed a water style symbol on Yūgure’s shirt. It made him remember Komori’s question. “Yeah Komori it would be great if you would teach me the Hidden Mist jutsu.” The water style symbol on Yūgure’s shirt made him assume he was a water style user too. “Hey Yūgure are you a water style user as well? Komori said he is going to teach me this cool hidden mist jutsu, if you ask him I think he will probably teach you too.”

Komori responded before Yūgure could even formulate an answer. “I’d be happy to show you both.” He glanced towards the lake, where the crystal clear water reflected the sky above them. He looked into his own beautiful reflection before turning his attention back to the pair of genin. “Luckily for you, since you’re new to this technique, we can use the water from the lake as a water source. It’s pretty simple actually.” Komori held up his hands in the shape of the Tiger he handseal. “It only requires a single handseal, so it’s really easy to perform.” He then looked towards the water to demonstrate the technique, despite being able to make it out of just the moisture in the air. He concentrated his chakra on the body of water, until wisps of vapor began rising slowly from the lake, steadily expanding outwards until it enveloped them in a fifty meter radius. He went to look at the other two to see if they were impressed before realizing he had subconsciously made the fog too dense that light could not penetrate it. “Oh, sorry about that,” he said before dispelling the technique. “Yūgure, why don’t you try it first? Just focus on the lake and let’s see what happens. Hell, if you guys really want to, after a bit of practice, you could even do what I do and manipulate the moisture in the air to your benefit.”

Yūgure activated his Byakugan as soon as Komori started to form the handseal for the “Hidden Mist” jutsu. He was curious as to whether or not his dojutsu could penetrate through the thick cloud of mist that Komori was creating, he assumed that he'd be able to. As the mist got more and more dense Yūgure still noticed that it had no negative effects on his Byakugan. Yū had made sure to study Komori’s chakra network as he had performed the jutsu, so that he could be fully prepared when it was his turn to give it a try.
By the time that Komori had finally dispelled the jutsu Yūgure was already getting ready to perform it on his own, he pictured how Komori’s chakra network looked and tried to mimic it as he weaved the tiger seal. He focused his chakra on the water and managed to make a small cloud of mist. It was nothing compared to Komori’s, but it was still pretty good for a first try. Yūgure continued to practice, and he managed to keep creating bigger and bigger clouds of mist each time he tried. Focusing his chakra into the water was difficult, but the more he attempted it the easier it got for him to do. He could feel Komori and Sakana watching him as he continued to work on perfecting it. Yūgure eventually got to the point that he could create a decent sized cloud of mist from the lake without having any sort of problems whatsoever.
It felt like it had taken him an eternity to get this far with his training and the sun almost seemed to be dipping, Yūgure wondered what time it was before giving himself a mental slap upside the head and telling himself to get back to work. He remembered what Komori had said towards the end of his lecture, something about pulling the moisture out of the air and using it for them he technique. Yūgure figured that the jutsu was more or less worthless without the ability to do this, as most combat scenarios wouldn't place him next to a body of water large enough for him to use for this technique. He expected the training to be much more grueling than it turned out to be, he had significantly less trouble learning how to manipulate the moisture than he initially thought he would've. It was essentially the same thing as putting his chakra into the water, except not he just had to put it into the moisture surrounding him. When he closed his eyes and pictured the moisture surrounding him he found it surprisingly easy to put his chakra into it.
He wondered what Komori was thinking as he made more and more progress on using the air moisture for the jutsu. It had only been a few hours since the training began and Yū had already acquired a stable grasp of the jutsu, and found himself able to use it relatively casually. For whatever reasons, this jutsu managed to seriously resonate with Yūgure. He was excited at the prospect of being able to use this in combat. His Byakugan negated any of the potential effects of the jutsu that could backfire on him, so Yū knew he'd always have an advantage with this jutsu active. He got lost in thought and found himself absent mindedly practicing the jutsu, until he saw the reflection of the sunset on the lake and realized that he had to return home soon. “Komori, it's just about time for me to go. Thank you for your help with teaching me this new jutsu. And Sakana, thank you for allowing me to train here with you. It's truly been a pleasure to meet both of you, I hope that we can all see each other again.” As soon as Yūgure finished exchanging goodbyes he dashed away from the field and towards the village and home, finding himself more than satisfied with that he had learned today.
