Komon watched as Sakana pulled out the shinobi painter set attachment and began to once more take a relatively long amount of time to draw the bird, at this rate it would be a completely useless technique for him in battle, but hopefully the kid would practice his strokes and be able to get it down in a few quick swipes in the future. That being said the bird did actually look pretty good.

He then watched as sakana flawlessly lifted the bird off of the page, which Komon had to admit went down much better than his own first attempt. “Well it looks good if your confident enough in your bird we can give it a test flight” He’d say, wanting to know if the boy believed strongly enough in his creation to trust it from failing him midair and plummeting him to his death.

Sakana was happy the he drew the bird so well and it worked. Usually new Jutsu did not work on the first attempt but he figured the pressure probably helped him complete it. He knew he needed to get faster with drawing the birds but that's something he would improve on over time.

Then Komon asked something Sakana did not expect. He asked if he was confident enough to fly his bird. Well Sakana was terrified of flying so it would be another major obstacle he would have to overcome but he was confident the bird would fly. So he turned the question back on Komon. “I am confident enough to get on my bird and fly it but are you confident enough to get on with me? You would be putting your trust in the fact the I distributed the chakra correctly and the the bird would be able to hold both of us for a while.

The newly appointed chuunin was being tested, he had planned to ride his own bird beside the gennin in order to be able to catch him if he fell, however it would appear the meijin would prefer to ride together, Komon knew if he turned him down it may shake the boys confidence. “To hell with it” he thought as he lifted himself off of his boulder and took several steps towards Sakana’s twelve foot tall creation.

As he stood beneath it he grabbed its neck with both hands and pulled himself on top of the black and white figure before sliding down on its back to a position that would allow the gennin enough room to sit in front of him and steer while still allowing him to sit firmly in place during flight without worry of falling off. If Komon had any doubt in the boy it would not show through his careful facade. “Sure. Lets do this” he’d say as he motioned for the meijin to get on his bird.

Sakana listened to Komon as he said he would ride with him. He watched Komon carefully as he got on the bird because to he honest Sakana had no clue what he was doing from here so he had to watch Komon to see if he was doing it right. So once Komon had gotten on the bird Sakana knew he needed to get on the bird. Sakana walked to the front of the bird and placed his arms around its next as Komon had done. Then Sakana tried to throw his leg around the bird but it did not work and the bird shook Sakana off and he fell on the ground. So instead of trying that again, Sakana used the surface walking technique to attach his chakra to the bird as he climbed on it. So when the bird tried to shake him off again he stayed on until successfully sitting on the bird's back.

Now it was time to fly. Sakana did not really know how to control the bird from here so he just kinda kicked at the bird’s sides and imagined the bird soaring through the air. To Sakana’s surprise the bird too off at top speed and started flying through the air. This was when Sakana realized his fear for flying. It made him sick to his stomach and he clenched the bird's neck for comfort.

Komon watched as Sakana’s own creation knocked him too the ground and refused to let him mount. The sight was odd considering he controlled the bird, but the gennin tried once more to mount this time using the surface walking technique and succeeding. “Alright, when you're ready” He’d say encouraging the boy to start.

Sakana would respond almost immediately kicking at the sides of the birds as if was a horse, while Komon thought it was a bit ridiculous it seemed to work, and the two took off into the sky. “Good job sakana” he would say as he noticed the unease on the child's face. “Fear of heights?” He’d say cheerfully before assuring him he’d get used to it.

Sakana was super afraid of heights. After all his main element was the water. He liked being in the water being in the air just seemed un natural to Sakana. So while the bird was flying fast Sakana just got more and more uneasy. He thought he was going to be sick and since he did not want to throw up on Komon he decided it was going to be time to land.

There was one big problem with landing. The Meijin had no clue how to do it. He thought about asking Komon but he did not really want to speak in fear of throwing up. So Sakana thought how to land. Since he could not really think that clearly Sakana just imagined he was on the ground and the bird was gone. What happened next no one could have ever predicted. When Sakana was thinking about the bird disappearing it actually did. The bird just vanished from under him and Komon.

Now Sakana thought he was going to die. And worse that he was going to be responsible for the death of Komon too. Both of the ninja were falling rapidly.

It took Komon a couple of seconds to realize how badly Sakana had messed up, the bird just seemed to disappear which needless to say caught him off guard, such an event had never happened to him and he wondered how sakana could have possibly caused this to happen. About three seconds into their freefall however Komon’s thoughts began to catch up with him and he knew that it was up to him to save them. He had no time to be afraid.

He knew that sakana was a slow drawer and would have no time to sketch out a bird on his painter set mid free fall, Komon however was one of the fastest ninja in Kumo and wouldn’t let such events be the end of him. His hand instinctively went to drawing on his painter set the lines being a little more jagged than usual, present circumstances made it hard to be picky and a bird would form. Komon was tempted to use it on himself but he knew as a chuunin it was his responsibility to save the gennin first.

“Sakana!” He’d shout getting the free falling gennins attention as the bird glided towards him, if all went according to plan the bird would slide the meijin onto its back setting him firmly onto the bird as Komon still free falled.

The bird would then begin to make its way towards Komon once it had secured the gennin safely, and hopefully fast too as he had just fallen through the layers of cloud and was now rushing towards the ground, he guessed he had about twenty seconds until impact.

“Oh god please let this work” was all he could think to himself as he continued to fall. He still had so much he wanted to do, dying was not an option.

As Sakana was falling through the air he was terrified. He expected to die here and on his fall he just thought about how much he had failed everyone. He was going to live his final moments in sadness. But much to his surprise he saw Komon start to draw. Sakana thought it was kinda pointless but he had hope that Komon would be able to save them somehow. The next thing he knows is that he sees a giant white hawk under him. The Meijin had to line himself up with the bird. On impact Sakana tried to land on the bird but instead he missed and only was able to wrap his arms around the bird's neck causing the bird to first shoot down from the impact but then Sakana was the one in the air. Sakana pulled himself onto the bird and dug his heels into its side still clenching its neck.

Now that Sakana was safe and secure he noticed two things. One is that Komon was not on the bird with him. This means Komon decided to save the gennin above himself. But two this was also a dumb move on Komon's part because if the bird manages not to catch Komon Sakana will still die because the bird will disappear. But Sakana knew since he did not have control over the bird he would just have to trust Komon. He felt himself getting sick again so he made his grip around the bird's neck tighter and closed his eyes.

“Alright one down one to go” Komon said as he watched the close call. Sakana had managed to grab onto the birds neck and position himself, now he just had to direct the bird to him, he knew the bird moved faster with more chakra and that his byakugan amplified his chakra. So naturally his veins began to bulge, as he increased his chakra output.

15 seconds till impact

The bird above him and a couple meters out turned towards him and gave a powerful flap of its wings as it changed its direction. “Hope Sakana is holding on tight”

10 seconds until impact

The bird would shoot downwards barreling towards Komon, with its talons extended.

8 seconds until impact

“OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD” Komon thought as he was cutting it close

5 Seconds until impact

The bird's talons reached out and grabbed onto Komons shirt, catching him mere seconds before he met the ground and turned its movement from diving to gliding mere feet from the surface of the ground.

“That was too close for comfort” Komon said as he began to climb from the underbelly of the bird and onto its back.

Sakana, still with his eyes closed, is just feeling sicker and sicker and he notices this is due to the fact that the bird keeps going faster and faster. As the bird dives toward Komon, Sakana loses it. He can not keep it on any longer and he throws up mid air. He feels much better after doing this and then the bird grabs Komon, glides for a moment and safely lands on the ground. About 4 second after Sakana is on the ground he sees the pile of puke land in the grass next to him.
Sakana is just so happy to be back on the ground. He kinda just lays on the ground clutching the earth as he never wants to be in the air again. After around five minutes of silence he gets up and sees Komon. Still on the ground Sakana says, “See I know that went bad but it was my first time ever attempting that and I hate heights. The birds are really cool and thanks for teaching me but like it is going to be a long long time before I feel comfortable flying. I kinda just want to go home and sleep where I know I'm safe on the ground.”

Sakana get up off the ground still wobbly from falling through the air. “Thanks for teaching me Komon but I am going home. I have had enough training for one day. I still feel kinda sick.” And with that Sakana walks past Komon Hyuuga. And heads home.

Sakana is now way more comfortable with Komon as he has taught him a few things at this point and he also saved both their lives when Sakana put them both in danger by letting them fall to their deaths. Normally Sakana would be disappointed in himself for that failure but not today. Today he was just happy to be alive and on the ground again. This geenin was ready to go home and sleep through the night even though it was not even noon yet.
