A Liger? Empty A Liger?

Mission Link

Mission Details:

Senshi arrived at the mission office early, for once he had been given a day off and it had been rather odd. Then again after completing the A rank Path to Jounin mission two, and having to drag a set of fresh out of the academy Genin around, he kind of deserved a break. Taking a breath he entered the building wondering what he was going to be assigned to handle today. What he walked into was not the usual sight however. Instead everyone was running around like a mad house. The Chuunin were scrambling and two separate Jounin were yelling orders out over the loud chaos that was ensuing.

Before Senshi had too much time to either dwell on what was occurring or to ask what needed to be done a third Jounin appeared at his side. “Follow me, Chuunin Kobayashi, we have an issue.” Senshi simply nodded before following the woman to a side room. The sudden silence was deafening and Senshi almost felt his heart stop when he was handed a scroll marked for S rank missions. Despite his current mission record, and that included two A rank missions, he had not thought that he would be given an S rank mission for awhile yet.

“We are surprisingly understaffed today and several issues have arisen. You’re the most experienced Chuunin we can spare for this mission. As such you will be the team leader, messengers have been dispatched to gather your team. Hyuuga Komon, Hozuki Komori, and Shoyu Reizo. The latter two had just been recently promoted but due to your progress with the Jounin Exams you’ll be in charge of this team of Chuunin. Good luck.” Senshi blinked as she spoke quickly and turned leaving the room the minute she was done. He stared down at the scroll awkwardly for several seconds before finally unrolling it.

He didn’t really consider himself the most experienced Chuunin that could be available and it was going to be awkward telling three fellow Chuunin what to do. They were all the same rank after all. Still someone had to be in charge. With a deep breath he read over the contents of the scroll before rolling it back up and heading out the door. There had been a small note clipped in saying that he would be meeting the other three at the village gates. How usual. The messengers had been dispatched five minutes ago so if he hurried he would likely just barely beat them to gate. With that in mind he took off, running through the streets only slowing once the gates came into view. Looking up at the towering gates, and out into the rot forest with all its zombies he let loose a sigh.

He didn’t see the other three yet, but his chakra sensory was active searching for them. He already knew exactly how to start this mission out. It would be important that they be able to communicate effectively, without giving their position away. He had already given Reizo the telepathy seal, but it was time to tie Komori and Komon into it as well. With that in mind he sent a thought to Reizo activating the seal, “Are you on your way? According to the mission information we are short on time.” Senshi would finish charging chakra into the seal and started looking around for his new temporary Chuunin team.

Komon walked into the village gates covered in dirt and what looked like red blood on his knuckles, his brother had been going to the final chuunin exam before he left and he had decided to run some missions for the village to clear his head, the idea of his brother sitting in front of youka didn’t rest well for him and he had been desperately in need of a distraction. Komon shuddered as he thought back to what youka had subjected him to throughout the chuunin exams. The children he killed, the death of lady Jiyo, and his dislocated arms. It had been brutal to say the least, and he had hoped his brother had come out at least relatively the same. He was on his way to find out how his brothers results went before he was stopped at the gate and handed a piece of paper by a gennin guard.

“Komon!”

“The village is running low on manpower right now, you and the other two chuunin that the village could afford to spare are to report to Kobayashi Senshi, all of your three teammates will be reporting to this gate shortly”

Komon sighed at the news, he had desperately wanted to find out his brothers results, but it appeared the village was in need of his skills. At least he would be working with senshi, someone he was familiar with, but he still wondered who else he would be working with. Walking from the outside of the gates to the inside He’d see that senshi was already waiting. Komon couldn’t help but notice how well disciplined the man the was, always on time, always alert, and always effective. The Hyuuga took comfort in knowing the man would be leading the mission.

He’d say hello as he walked up to the man that seemingly already noticed him. as he did so he couldn't help but wonder what kind of mission could possibly require four chuunin.

BANG BANG BANG. A loud knocking could be heard at the door of Komori’s humble abode. The now chuunin had gone home after his talk with the Raikage, and subsequent promotion, but the mental challenge of the mere conversation had drained him. BANG BANG BANG. He had gone home to take a short nap before he would head out to town later on in the evening. Although it did not seem as though he would be getting much time to himself. He lazily blinked his eyes open due to the consistent knocking. BANG BANG BANG. “Alright, alright, I’m coming!” Komori yelled before yawning. Scratching his rear in a tired manner, he slowly unlocked and opened the door to find a genin messenger. A small amount of pride came to his mind, as he realized that he now outclassed this shinobi. “Komori-sempai, your services are needed at the front gates.” Komori had been standing in a mere pair of heart covered boxers, which the genin had not recognized as he was kneeling with his eyes directed towards the ground, presenting a scroll. “It’s urgent.” The shirtless wonder simply took the scroll and thanked the boy for his delivery before heading inside and donning Invictus. He then proceeded to walk out the door and unravel the scroll. It did not give details, as that would only be assigned to the team captain. He was to meet at the gates as soon as possible. As in five minutes ago. He then raveled up the scroll and bolted down the streets, building up to his top speed. He was rather disappointed that he was not to lead this mission, but as he thought about it, this just meant that it would be a pretty difficult mission if they were recruiting chuunin to compose a team. Komori would arrive at the gates, and upon reaching there, would wave at his two chuunin comrades.

A Liger? Empty Re: A Liger?

Now that Reizo was a Chuunin, he had been busier than ever. Even with the era of relative peacefulness going on lately, there was still always stuff to do. He had just gotten off his patrol shift and was headed over to his mom's dumpling cart. Despite all of the work he had, he still found time to help his mom every now and then. She was always grateful for his help whenever he could deliver it, and he enjoyed helping her. As he walked through the crowd by the dumpling cart, he was stopped by a Genin messenger who would literally bump into him, dropping the mission scroll. "Oof! Reizo-sempai I'm so sorry! You're needed for an urgent mission. Senshi Kobayashi will be leading you and your team. You should report to the village gates as soon as possible," she would say, clumsily crawling through the crowd to fetch the scroll from the ground.

The scroll was a bit dirty on the outside when she handed it to him, but Reizo just smiled and thanked her for her service, dismissing her. Standing in the center of the crowd, clogging up traffic, the Chuunin would read the scroll's contents. As he was about halfway through reading it, a familiar voice popped into his head. He head forgotten that Senshi had installed the telepathy seal, so the voice was kind of a surprise. "I'm headed over right now, Senshi," Reizo would reply using the seal. He didn't want to keep the team waiting and was worried they were all there already. Leaping onto the rooftops to avoid the crowd, Reizo sped over to the gates (50 speed). Even at his full speed it would take a few minutes to get there. Since he had come from patrol he had all of his equipment already on him: his usual garb plus his new flak vest, his two weapon pouches, an of course his now pair of tantos (no longer just one) on his back, both with their hilts over his right shoulder parallel to one another. When he arrived, the blonde realized he was the last of the team to arrive. Komori, Komon, and Senshi were all there already. It was quite a team- it was almost like it was destiny that they had been chosen for this mission and that they had all become Chuunin at around the same time. "What a team! Well, I don't think we should waste any time loitering here. Your orders, Senshi-kun?" the fourteen year old would say aloud. It was funny how fast everyone seemed to age. It must've been the promotion that made everyone seem more mature. He could've sworn the twins had aged 2 or 3 years since he last saw them, yet it must've only been a couple weeks at most.

A Liger? Empty Re: A Liger?

Oh good they were all here, magically arriving one after the other ready to move out and kill some beast. Not that they knew that part. Senshi gave a nod to each as they arrived before taking a slight breath and beginning his briefing. “Good morning, I apologize for the short notice but we’ve been selected to go on an S rank mission. The location is in the mountains to the west of here. Some summon type of animal is wrecking havoc with the villages in the area.” Senshi paused reaching into his pocket to withdraw the mission scroll. As he had already memorized it he tossed the scroll lightly to Komon first.

“It has already killed more than two hundred people, the description of the animal we are searching for is in the scroll. Each of you should look it over and memorize the details as we travel there.” Senshi looked at Komon now, his eyes a piercing flinty hazel as he settled into what he knew as mission mode. “We’ll be moving in a wedge, Komon you’re to take the rear. With your Byakugan you’re uniquely suited to ensuring no one sneaks up on us. You’re also the second in command of the mission should I fall or we split up.” His eyes turned to Reizo next, the same steely look in his eyes.

“Reizo, you’ll take the point position. With your taijutsu, in the event of a surprise attack you can handle it the best.” His eyes moved from his teammate to Komori, “You’ll take the left flank, be staggered off of me by about five meters closer to Komon so that you can provide him assistance quickly.” He knew that placing Komori and Komon as a single unit made sense for traveling because Komori and Komon were likely to be more focused on each other seeing as they were not only brothers, but twins. Senshi couldn’t risk that one or the other would become too preoccupied saving the other one and leave him or reizo out to dry.

If they needed to split up thought, he would be forced to separate them. Komon and Komori were both ninjutsu fighters, they needed to be paired with someone who could fight in close range. In this instance, Senshi knew he was going to have to alter his own fighting style to fight at close range like Reizo. “I’ll be on the right flank closer to Reizo, this way either Komori or I can give the two of you better assistance should the need arise. Once we reach the mountains we’ll need to track it from it’s last known location to kill it. Are their any questions?” Senshi would wait for the questions, and answer them each in turn before he finally spoke again.

“Komori, Komon will the two of you consent to a mark seal and a telepathy seal. The first will allow me to find you should we become separated and the second will allow Reizo, who already has the seals, and I to converse with you mentally. It has a global range so it doesn’t matter how far we get from one another.” Senshi would wait for the two to give their consent before stepping up to Komon first and placing the mark seal on his expose pinky tow and then the telepathy seal (Dog,  bird, ram, dog) behind Komon’s left ear. He repeated the process with Komori, but placed the mark seal on his right middle toe instead. The telepathy seal would be in the same place behind his left ear.

“All right, let’s move out. Once we have a better idea of what we are dealing with we will develop a plan of attack. Time is of the essence. If you would Reizo, lead the way.” Senshi would wait for Reizo to start moving before following him. He channeled chakra into his telepathy seal and spoke to the four. “All you need to do is channel chakra into the seal, and then any thought you have will be passed to all four of us.

A Liger? Empty Re: A Liger?

The answer to Komon’s question of why the village would possibly need 4 chuunin for a single mission quickly made itself clear as the team assembled. A beast that had killed over 200 people, The death toll was staggering to say the least. Upon hearing this the Hyuuga man’s fingers began to move and ball up into a fist as he clenched. “Am I really ready for something like this?” He thought to himself as he filled his head with doubt, up until now all he had really done combat wise was capture a couple temple robbers, and get beat up by people better than him. He quickly shook the idea out of his head not allowing his comrades to see what he may be thinking. He was a chuunin now, He was ready.

Senshi then began to hammer through the details giving formation assignments to the small chuunin squadron. As usual Komon would take either the rear or the front, his byakugan often landed him this spot due to his sensory, and it typically worked out well. Often greatly reducing the chances of a surprise attack. What he heard next was what surprised him though. Komon was to be second in command on this mission, meaning if the group got separated from senshi he would be calling the shots. “Alright” He’d say nodding to show that he understood Senshi’s orders.

The next request he would of course accept as both the seals sounded useful. The ability to telepathically communicate with his entire team on a global range would be useful on not just this mission but several others, reinforcements could instantly be called instead of having to send someone back to the village to call for them. And the mark seal could help senshi find them if they somehow managed to get separated in the heat of battle. They could regroup and strengthen their numbers.

After the seals were placed on his pinky toe and behind his ear he made his way to the village gates paying special attention to where he stood, ensuring that he would end up behind the three other chuunin as ordered by the chuunin in charge. Senshi Kobayashi.

A Liger? Empty Re: A Liger?

Two hundred people… Komori could not even wrap his mind around that number. One death is a tragedy, but the larger the loss of life gets, it becomes a mere number because people cannot comprehend the thought of such a large amount of people dying at once. All those lives ending, taking away everything that they ever were, or everything they could have been. That was why Komori rarely killed. He believed in redemption, but tried to be realistic at the same time. While it was not a particularly extreme amount of death in comparison to other events, it was still a massive loss of life in a relatively peaceful feeling time. Perhaps Komori would make this creature an exception to his sparse killing rule. Komori would wait until he was either handed the scroll to read, or merely told the identifying markings of the summon that they were hunting.

He was unsurprised to hear that Komon was to take the rear position. It was much easier on the squad as a whole to have a shinobi capable of seeing in 360 degrees, as it made him specifically suited for a rear guard, or at other times to take the lead. Komori knew at this point that he would be in the middle, which was not even a bad thing. He was confident in his own abilities now, much more so than he had been before his promotion. His hard work would be able to be displayed in the event of an attack. Senshi even trusted him to cover their other bloodline wielder, with his highly sought after visual dojutsu. The two also made for a very good and cooperative team, as they had been together for their entire lives, which gave them a distinct advantage over other duos. If Komori had not been handed the scroll, he would take up Senshi’s offer and ask about what the beast looked like, so that he would know what to look out for. Telepathy seal? That sounded like fun. Having a continuous way to annoy… I mean communicate professionally with his fellow chuunin would be a great asset for any team to have. He made a mental note to learn this move himself someday, as he planned to delve back into the study of Fuinjutsu upon their return home. He had the utmost confidence in this squad of chuunin, as he believed that they were all exceptionally powerful for their rank, despite him being the freshest of the bunch. Komori swept his still growing, rather unkempt hair back from his left ear as Senshi placed the seal.

The Hozuki heard the mission leader speak in his mind and decided to try it out for himself. “Testing, testing, one, two, three.” Komori thought while channeling chakra to the seal. He would wait for a response from the others to see if it truly worked. As Komon had nothing to contribute to Komori himself, the lad aligned himself on the left flank and crossed his arms in anticipation of Reizo joining them. Once they began to move, he would drop his arms and run, following Reizo’s lead.

Reizo's eyes widened at disbelief at the death toll. "Two HUNDRED?" Reizo repeated aloud, unnecessarily confirming what everyone else just heard. Such an attack as unprecedented as far as the Chuunin knew. The number was incomprehensible to him. How could two hundred lives have already been claimed? Why did it take so long for the village to scramble its Chuunin forces to respond to this threat? These were some of the questions Reizo had swirling in his mind, but his attention was soon brought back to Senshi as he addressed team roles.

Reizo tightened to the attention position and swiftly nodded when he was ordered to take point. At the point position, Reizo would be the first to identify targets and react to ongoing situations. He would also be responsible for keeping his team informed of the situation up front. The point position was often the most dangerous because he would be the first to engage the target and would therefore have to react the fastest of the group. His team would have plenty of time to react if he were struck dead, but if his team were attacked chances are he wouldn't be able to react because he'd already be long gone.

After the twins received their telepathy seals, Komori would issue a test to make sure it worked. Reizo confirmed his test, "It seems to be working correctly. We don't have any time to waste. To the mountains!" Reizo would exclaim telepathically (if such a thing were possible). He would then spring to the front of the group and start sprinting to the west toward the mountains.

The blonde wondered what type of beast could've possibly ravaged the land as quickly and ferociously as it did. It would have to be nearly akin to a Bjuu to deal that level of damage and rack up such a high body count before the village could even act. That two hundred figure was only the CONFIRMED deaths as the information was delivered. Who knew how many hadn't been confirmed or had died while the team was assembling and responding? Reizo knew one thing was for certain - it wasn't a normal animal.
