The First True Step
Tue Apr 03, 2018 6:08 pm
After preparing day after day, the moment had finally made it. Suzume was going to take her genin test today. She woke up early, wanting to have a good start before being evaluated. She was fairly confident that she would make it, despite dragging behind. Suzume made an effort not to get anxious over it all, because that would only do harm. She checked in the exam area and awaited for it to begin.

Another genin exam aye? Love waltzed over to the group of children holding a clipboard with a list of names just as before. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. "Suzume Himura." She would call out loud and clear. When the person belonging to that name came forth she would nod for them to begin.

In the first portion of her exam, Suzume worked through a packet of questions. Some were on mathematics, others were on history, some were about the system of the village. She flew through the majority of these questions, completing it a little bit earlier than most. She wasn’t the first, but was far from the last. Now that everyone had finished the written test, one by one each student was called up to show their ninjutsu.
Suzume stepped up when her name was called, then bowed to her proctor out of respect. She hoped this proctor wouldn’t be too harsh, or the kind that was out too fail students, but she looked friendly enough so Suzume didn’t make a concern about it. “I’m here to do only my best”, she would remind herself. After being told what was expected of her to get through the genin exam, Suzume mapped out a plan to successfully complete it.
Seeing the nod of approval to begin showing off what she’s learned, Suzume figured she would start with the transformation technique as that’s what she had done most recently. Just as she had completed not such a long time ago with a classmate, she focused on the proctor to transform into since she was someone to look at for a transformation. She commenced with using the techniques hand signs: dog, boar, then ram. Suzume begun forming the proctor’s hair from her own, just like when Suzume practiced in the academy. If that process worked then, it’ll work now. She formed her chakra so that her hair would be styled as the proctor’s was. Then she focused on color to the hair then moving to get her skin to appear more like her proctor’s. Her eyes were different from hers, but as she continued to activate the transformation technique that became less so. Continuing to rearrange her appearance, eventually Suzume’s technique was complete, and she was pretty much transformed into what her proctor looked like.
Then cancelling that technique, she prepared for the clone jutsu. Once again, performing the hand signs to pull it off: ram, snake, then tiger. The clone jutsu was easier than the transformation technique, so naturally Suzume managed to do it more efficiently and quicker than the previous skill. A clone of herself stood right beside her, moving just as she did. She watched as the proctor made marks after completing this section of the exam, hoping she did well. Of course, Suzume believed she did, however didn’t know if it would meet the proctor’s expectations. Then cancelling that jutsu, she sat in her seat and waited for the other possible soon to be genins to take their jutsu and techniques portions. After the rest had complete this section, they were lead to an arena.
Immediately, Suzume glanced around at who she could potentially be put up against in battle. Some students seemed too easy, and a few others she definitely did not want to fight. There wasn’t much she could do but stay put until her opponent was revealed. She wasn’t too afraid, she had done well during a field day during the academy with combative arts, so this couldn’t be much different. As the first match was announced, Suzume was glad she wasn’t up first. It was in her preference to have some time to analyze her surrounding before doing anything within it.
The first two students didn’t seem to be fit for combat. Both were rather scrawny, but perhaps they were more athletic than utilizing brute strength. If anything, they were probably the two weakest out of the whole group, and to give them a chance it would have only been fair to arrange them to battle each other, and no one else. That also meant Suzume wouldn’t have to fight them…on one hand, she was glad that it wouldn’t be a boring match – on another, that was more of a chance in being put up against one of the bigger and stronger students. As these two dweebs had a go, Suzume chuckled every now and then at the missed opportunities one of them could’ve taken to become the victor. Suddenly, one of them surprisingly hit a nice strike to the other’s jaw, knocking them over. “I’m sure glad I’m not either of those guys,” Suzume thought to herself.
Just after they cleared out, she was called to the center along with some other student. Another female that was a bit taller than her. Without being able to see what skills this other kid had, Suzume was hesitant to do anything. The round was called to start, and the other potential genin charged right at Suzume. She was quite a distance away, so Suzume had a bit of time to plan something. As her opponent was in almost arms reach, Suzume sidestepped out of the way, but kept her leg out to trip the girl. She fell right on her face, and the other students laughed. Suzume looked at her on the ground. “Well, she’s fallen, does that mean I win?” she wondered. The referee confirmed it so, and Suzume left the arena satisfied with her mischief. Once every other student had gone, she waited to get the results of her test.

"Very good. The following students line up to receive your headbands." Love would say to the children as the exam was now complete and she would announce those who had passed.
