A New Generation of Kiri (Hayate/Kether GeninExam)
Mon May 14, 2018 12:46 am
15 Year old academy student Hayate arrived early as normal. Most of his athletic frame was, as usual, hidden under black combat pants and a white sleeveless hoodie with the top down, though a half mask covered the bottom of his face. After all, why should today be any different.
But it was different. Today were the genin exams, the day they'd been training for so long. At this point it was supposed to be a formality, but that tended to depend on your instructor, and they may expect more out of older students like himself and Kether.
Kether. Hayate's mind went back to yesterdays fight and the bandage that currently wrapped the lower part of Hayate's left thigh. It felt fine now, but he wrapped it to not take any chances. Besides, no one could tell under the long pants. Still, it was quite a kick. It was good they stopped where they did.
He wondered where the older boy was, but figured he'd be here soon. Beneath that calm exterior, Hayate knew from the hours spent together that Kether cared a great deal about it.
He settled in to wait.

Requesting exam, please, for myself and Kether.

Today was the day. He had been waiting for so long and it was finally here. The silver-haired teen was actually feeling a twinge of nervousness as he made his way to the examination room. Maybe nervousness wasn’t really the right word for it. He knew the clone and transformation jutsu backward and forward by now so there was little doubt that he would pass and pass easily. It was more a feeling of anticipation at what would come after. Kether wasn’t exactly known for emotional attachments, but he had grown so used to this place that it would be quite a change to graduate from his life as a student to becoming a real shinobi.
Then again, his arm was still pretty beat up from yesterday’s little spar with Hayate. Thanks to the long sleeves of the black robe that he always wore it was easy to hide the intense bruises on his left arm, but the pain was still there. Shinobi had to work under less than ideal circumstances, however, so in reality this was actually a better test of his abilities than simply performing the jutsu he needed to know. It was now “can you do it even when you’re hurt?”
He entered into the examination room to see that Hayate had already arrived. He wasn’t particularly surprised that the younger student had beaten him here. He was always so passionate about his training so it made sense that he’d be here even earlier than Kether. It was strange to think that the two of them might be going their separate ways after this test. If Kether had to pick someone that he would be willing to call a friend, Hayate was by far the closest thing he had to one. Still, he couldn’t afford such sentimentality. Especially not as a shinobi of Kirigakure.
With a slight smile and nod toward Hayate, Kether took a seat to await his turn to take the exam. If they could do it together, that’d be convenient but if not then he’d allow Hayate to go first. He had gotten here first, after all, so it was only fair.

It was annother day as Tyler Black leaned back against his chair, allowing it to slightly lean on it's back two legs as he kept his feet up on the desk as annother student would go attempt explain what sort of uses the clone jutsu could serve.
"And then.... you could totaly use it to attack people, make thousands of them and just totaly overwhelm your opponent! OHHHH AND YOU CAN USE THEM TO THROW YOURSELF AT THE ENEMY! IT IS TOTALY THE MOST AWESOME TECHNIQUE EVER!"
God, would this kid ever shut up?
Black would slowly scratch his beard, waiting for the young black haired kid to wrap up his stupid explanation, he was so far off base, it was obvious he was going to fail. He didn't even know why the boy kept going on.... but the demon Mizukage would bitch if he had found out that Tyler cut a boy off early instead of letting him continue. So, the Long haired Taijutsu specialist had to wait as the boy went over the entirety of what the clone jutsu meant in his mind.
After what seemed like legitimate hours.... or about 800 minutes to be precise, the Kid finally shut up and would look at the proctor, very happily and expecticly.
"So?" the kid would ask. "How did I do?"
Tyler, who had dozed off at this point would suddenly look up at the kid. "Huh.... how did you think you did?"
"Pretty well! I explained all the cool things I could do with the clone jutsu! Pretty cool, right?"
Tyler would drop his feet to the ground, allowing the chair to fall to it's place. "Kid, you can't do half that shit with the clone technique you just mentioned. How many of these feets have you actually tried out for yourself?"
"None," The boy would say, with a smile on his face, but would reach into his back pocket and pull out a rolled up book. "But I read up about it all in this book!"
The chunin would gaze upon the soft back book that rest within the boy's grasp. "..... Is that the tale of Uzumaki Naruto?"
"Uh-Huh"
The proctor would look over at is dumb-ass student that was looking so proud of himself, as if he knew everything there was in the world from that book.
"Whats your name again?"
"Star Heaven."
Raze would give a deep facepalm, his sweat filled brow pressing itself up against his own hand. "Get out of here."
The boy's cheerfull gaze would suddenly turn into a look of pure terror "W....what? But I totatly...."
"Get out."
"I..."K
Before the boy could even finish his sentence, Tyler Black would stand up, rage could be seen in his face. "Kid! Get the fuck out of here and get into a few fights before you actually try to apply for a shinobi's position! You know what happens if you pass this exam?! Huh!? Do ya!? You get put into the Blood Games!" At this point the man would lean over his desk and stare right into the boy's eyes, his own Teal colored eyes cold and sharp as daggers. "And you know what happens when YOU get put into the blood games? Well, lets just say you will be wishing you could clone your own blood. Now get the hell out of my room before I make you."
With tears in his little baby eyes, Star would go running out of the room, balling his eyes out. Tyler would return to his seat, his eyes glaring over to everyone else in the room.
"Let it be known that we are Kirigakure! We strive on unity! We are only as strong as our weakest link. So no one that shows any fear will be allowed to pass this exam! Now how the fuck is next?"
The Shinobi would wait for someone to step up to be the next volunteer. Whoever did, Tyler would glare at them and say. "You know what to do, Clone jutsu and the Transformation technique. Also, reasons how they are useful in combat. And for the love of God, don't wast my time. There are like a dozen of you left."
Sorry for the wait, I started writing this post exhausted, but then I started to really get into it. Hoping there isn't' any inconsistency. So, First person who wants to try, you need to write an 800 word post using the jutsu above and explaining how each of them could be used. Best of luck! Also, if you fail.... well... lets just say Tyler doesn't want anyone to waste any more of his time and I have a stat page ready for him to use
Best of luck

The instructor in front looked just as bored as Hayate to listen to Star Heaven prattle on. All he ever talked about were over the top world shattering jutsu he'd read in books or seen in shows (and half Hayate was sure the boy just invented). He thought being a ninja was a magical shiny world of unicorns and just giving it your best try.
It was no wonder he hadn't gotten close to most of these kids.
Hayate wasn't really paying attention to back and forth after Star's answer. However, when the instructor stood and shouted, genuine rage in his face, Hayate's relaxed form stiffened up involuntaril. His left hand made the slightest twitch, mere miliimeters, toward where his practice sword sometimes hung.
The man had real battle presence. Hayate thought. Not the puffed up arrogance of a thug. Killer Intent, I think some called it. His own blood being in fight or flight mode when the comments weren't directed at him was enough to confirm that.
The few left in the class looked nervously at each other as Star shot out of the room like one of his namesake.
Hayate glanced at Kether, as the two oldest boys left in the room. The older student seemed to indicate Hayate should go next.
Whelp, here goes.
Hayate stood up to just over 5 and a half feet, pulling down the half mask as he walked forward. "Hayate Seiteki, sensei." he said as he approached. He forced himself to relax his fists from the balls they had formed, from unconcious nerves and the situation at hand. The sensei asked him to perform the techniques and he nodded in ascent.
Hayate bent his knees and slid his feet into a fighting stance and then formed the seals in front of him. Ram → Snake → Tiger. They weren't the fastest handseals he'd seen, but they were steady and sure and much faster than he was able to manage a year ago. A quick pause later, and a small puff of smoke appeared around his body, disappearing just as quickly as two identical versions stepped out of it to the left and right.
"Clone technique. Pure illusions that mirror your movements." All three Hayate's raised a hand in unison, the voice coming from the center. "On its own, it might convince the enemy your numbers were greater than they are, if you're not showing your face and dressed generic enough and they aren't paying attention. But it's main use is to confuse the enemy, making them attack or defend the wrong target. It's best use is with another attack, making it just a bit more likely to hit." All three clones punched the area between them. "And certain techniques or actions make the enemy more likely to choose wrong" the middle one spoke again, and then disappeared along with the one on the left, leaving the right clone as the real Hayate.
Dog → Boar → Ram POOF. A repeat of the same actions and response as last time, but now nothing stepped out of the mist. Instead, a man appearing to be in his late 30's was left standing in the disappearing whisp of smoke. He was the same heigh as Hayate, but slightly thicker, with the beggining of a gut, in black fishing waders covering up to his brown shirt, a black beanie completing the outfit and a small but respectable mustache on his face.
"Transfor..." Hayate began, then stopped. he paused for a moment, concentrating, and then a huskier voice sounded. "Transformation Jutsu changes your outward appearance, though its limited by a similar mass. It's mainly used for infiltration and spying, but in combat you can hide who you are to an opponent who knows you, convince opponents who lost sight of you there are more then there really are, or take advantage of separated opponents to try and convince them you're an ally of theirs. advanced users can change into inanimate objects. It doesn't give them the hardness of steel, but they can fly aerodynamically as a fuuma shuriken or hide even more effectively as scenery."
The fisherman reverted to the student clad in black combat pants and a white sleeveless hoddie, top down. The messy blone hair in particular was a stark contrast to the dark beanie. Hayate waited tensely. One slip up, but a single mistake costs lives. He tried to ignore the dryness of his throat. It's the after effects of the voice affecting jutsu, he told himself. Definitely not anything else.
Should he pass, if he got the headband immediately he would tie in on his forehead straight away. His next action would be to walk out, his entire body loosening and giving kether a "no problem, knew i'd pass" smug smile on the way out, and turn to leave, but wait just to the right of the door, his back against the wall, listening in.
Should he fail, he'd react based on the instructors actions.

(So, normal RP edicate would usually require me to wait for Kether to post, but sicne Hayate told me that he will just do his afterwards, I'll just go ahead and post.)
As Tyler took his seat, some teen came up and attempted the examination. He within a few seconds, it was obvious that this punk wasn't the same as that nerd Star from a few moments ago. He seemed mostly clam, and wasn't going on some sort of tangent that was completely off base. A good start. To boot, the boy also got the jutsu right, and didn't take for fucking ever for the boy to finish.
"Eh...... you seem good to me." The man would say and wave the boy over toward the head bands. "Don't leave yet though, I will still need to address to entire passing class before you run home to your mothers and get all sentimental or some Shit."
Once the boy picked up his headband, the man would look arround and ask. "One Pass, one epic faliure. Hopefully we can do better than 50 percent. Who's next? And you better follow Seitek's example."
Whoever stood up next, to come over would instantly feel the proctor's cold stare, looking them up and down, trying to get a read if this brat will be like Seitek or Heaven. However, it didn't matter to much, as the man would continue, saying "You know the drill, same as the first two. Just don't waste my time."

Re: A New Generation of Kiri (Hayate/Kether GeninExam)

Kether was slightly taken aback at the level of ignorance that the first kid who tried to take the exam displayed as he went on and on. Who would try to take the exam with such a pitiful level of knowledge? It was just asking for failure. Still, the proctor’s response cause a level of nervousness to rise in him as well. The Blood Games were always a real possibility once he had made Genin, but he had never seen one of the instructors at the academy mention it so blatantly.
At any rate, Hayate’s turn went much more smoothly. He was glad that he’d really gotten the clone technique down and gave a solid explanation. The transformation technique had a slight rough start with the voice at the beginning, but he was able to quickly adjust and correct it. He grinned when the decision was made to pass Hayate and the boy went to grab his own Kirigakure headband to signify his new position as a Genin of the village.
Kether made sure he was the next person up, walking down to the front of the room and giving a slight bow to the proctor. ”Kether Inami, sensei,” he said as a way of introducing himself. This was it, the moment he’d been training for since he came to the academy. If he couldn’t perform properly here, there was no way he’d be able to perform in the field. He also wouldn’t even have the chance if he failed here.
With a deep breath, he formed the handseals for the clone technique. It was somewhat slower than he had performed them in training, but he wanted to ensure there were no mistakes. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Once he finished, the familiar cloud of smoke appeared, leaving behind two clones, one on each side of him.
”The clone technique is a jutsu which is often used as a distraction or means to confuse an enemy in combat. While the basic clone technique is only capable of forming two clones which aren’t solid, it can still be used to conceal your attacks and cause an enemy to select the wrong one to attack, giving you time to come up with a strategy for victory. It is mainly a way to increase the probability of your success rather than outright winning a fight, but a creative shinobi can easily come up with situationally dependent ways of taking advantage of the higher odds.”
As he was speaking, the three Kether’s raised a fist out in front of them in order to demonstrate that they were, in fact, functioning clones and not just immobile projections. They looked side to side once he had finished his explanation and then disappeared in two smaller puffs of smoke.
”Next up is the transformation jutsu.” He methodically formed the handseals for that technique as well: Dog, Boar, and Ram. Another puff of smoke obscured the student for a second before fading away. Where Kether had been standing before now stood a very passable copy of the proctor himself.
”The transformation technique is a technique that is often used more for intelligence gathering or providing an opportunity to engage a target with the element of surprise. Due to the intense focus between two people during combat, it is more difficult to use as a combat technique because if someone sees you transform then the transformation is not particularly effective. If there is a slight break in the action, however, the technique can be used to transform into something that would blend in with the environment such as a rock or bush. This would allow another surprise attack to be performed, possibly ending the fight then and there.”
”Another application in combat,” he continued, ”would be if engaged with multiple opponents. If there is a point where you and an enemy are obscured from vision from the rest of the enemies, it is possible to transform into them so that the others would be unable to attack for fear of attacking their teammate instead or they would attack and have a high likelihood of helping you rather than their teammate. Finally, it can be used to trick an opponent into thinking that you’ve used a substitution jutsu, causing them to lower their guard toward whatever you transformed into and giving you time to strike.”
With his explanation finished, Kether allowed the jutsu to end. He transformed back into his normal, silver-haired self and stood somewhat formally looking at the proctor. He inwardly let out a sigh of relief that the jutsu had all gone correctly, but he quickly stopped himself from congratulating himself too early. He still had to wait for the proctor to actually pass him. If he did pass, he’d head straight over to the headbands and take one, looking at it almost reverently, before going back to take a seat next to Hayate. They’d both finally made it.

Re: A New Generation of Kiri (Hayate/Kether GeninExam)

After listening to the next boy's presentation, Tyler Black would jot down a few notes. 'Sorta wish he put more in there, but eh, kid's close enough.'
The proctor would cast a cold gaze upon the young genin, giving him a second to feel anxiety, give the boy a good scare. A shinobi should know how to deal with a little bit of stress after all. On top of that, giving the new kids a scare made them understand that Black was the boss, and that they needed to listen to him.
The man in his late 20's would then finally say. "Fine, you pass, take a seat.' I will address you with the other's as soon as we are done."
30 more grueling minutes would pass (About half as long as that Dweeb took for his exam.) Of the dozen more students that did there exam, only one of which would fail, (and even then, not nearly as epicly as his predecessor). Not a bad turn out of Tyler said himself. Of course, half of these kids or more would be dead within a year from now with the Blood Games coming up, but eh, that was on them for choosing the shinobi life.
"If you are still here, that means you passed. Good for you. You aren't like those damn traitors from Hoshi. However, this is only the start of your journey. By passing this exam, you showed that you have potential to become good. However, don't let that make you think you are hot shit. You now are Kirigakure shinobi, a group of people that make up the chains that hold this fine village together. However, a Chain is only as strong as its weakest link! So if any one of you think that you are strong enough to cut corners or take it easy even one day in your miserable life. Well...." A dark smile would appear on Black's face. "Sometimes, Chunin are asked to participate in the blood games, and lets just say If I know someone is slacking off, I would be happy to pick up an easy kill.
Now, pick up your headbands and you are dismissed. One per student, no fucking hoarding you whores!"
With that, Tyler Black would wait until all of the fresh meat would pick up their headbands and leave, before packing up his notes and leaving himself. Of course, if a student approached him and asked a question, he would wait and hear it out, before deciding if it was worth his time to acknowledge.

Sitting next to kether, Hayated reached up to adjust his headband slightly. Wearing it felt unusual, it definitely wasn't something hayate was used to. The tight fabric all the way around his hairline, the knot at the back, the weight of the icon at the front.
But it was definitely something he could GET used to.

The young shinobi reached out a fist for Kether to fist bump. They had done it.
Now the hard part began. They had the bare basics, but it was time for real training, learning the complex arts of the ninja, and of course missions. Now they were expected to contribute, and to put their lives on the line for the village. Now they were eligible for the blood games, should they came up. But for the immediate future, they could just enjoy it.
Hayate would excuse himself from any invitations for the day. He just wanted to get home, and share the good news.
There would definitely be barbeque for dinner tonight.

Heyo, you can't claim those two additional stats in the exam. Approved of everything else.
