Mara nodded and gave him a friendly smile. "Absolutely! It was great actually getting to hang out with someone. I have a pretty long walk home so I should probably get started."

She started walking towards home, but turned around after a few steps. "By the way, I appreciate you training with my yesterday. With any luck, we'll both survive these exams!"

She took off in the direction of home. Having new friends felt nice, a good change up from the lonely years she'd had before. The fact that he paid for everything was also pretty generous. She wasn't confident that he hadn't considered this a date, but that was an issue for another time. Hopefully, she hadn't misled him.

Reaching the end of the street several minutes later, she raced and hopped onto the exterior wall, her own little short cut. It wasn't a shorter distance home, but it was faster. She didn't have to weave through streets this way. But more importantly, it gave her a view of the surrounding countryside.

The moonlight had begun peaking through the clouds and spreading across the mountainous terrain. Some of the light glinted off the snow capped peaks, making it look like a thousand tiny lights had been placed around the summit. A soft, cold breeze ruffled her hair slightly as she gazed out. It looked beautiful tonight. To be fair, it always looked beautiful. But these cold nights late in the year were her favorite. She noticed she felt mixed feelings at the coming exams. It seemed like an exciting adventure, but she felt sad to be leaving her beautiful homeland. She hoped it wasn't in vain.

A few minutes later, she arrived at the Takashi residence, her adopted home, and quietly slipped inside. Everyone had already gone to bed for the night, so she made her way to her room silently.
